Sometimes, when I use synergy between my machines when one is using full-screen VirtualBox guest I get stuck with some weird key modifiers turned on. If they exist on my keyboard (like Shift_L) I can just tap it and their status is reset and I can continue typing in small letters. But some of them are not mapped to my keyboard at all (like ISO_Level3_Shift), so I have no means of turning them off at all!
How to reset them? Right now, all I can do is to reboot the computer, but it's rather embarrassing solution.
All I want is some program that can artificially "tap" all possible keyboard modifiers, so their status would be reset. Can it be done?
I use Mint 14 (a clone of Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal).

my issue is rather complicated, so I do not expect to find a solution, but maybe someone has had the same issue before me.
My workspace is composed of 2 computers, a mac and a PC running Linux Manjaro.
To avoid having 2 keyboards, I use the one from my Mac, with layout CH-DE.
I'm having some trouble using *Barrier(Synergy)* between the mac as server and a Linux as client.
My issue is: when typing
+
+
to write "\
" this does not work on my client machine where instead I get: /
.
On both machines I have set the keyboard layout to *macintosh CH-DE* and **every combination without
+
** works correctly.\
The key combination
+
+
works perfectly fine **if i'm using an external wired keyboard** keeping the keyboard layout to *macintosh CH-DE*.
I had to struggle with Barrier even to reach this situation. I had to use a config file on my mac that looks like this:
section: screens
MBP:
halfDuplexCapsLock = false
halfDuplexNumLock = false
halfDuplexScrollLock = false
xtestIsXineramaUnaware = false
preserveFocus = false
switchCorners = none
switchCornerSize = 0
manjaro:
alt = altgr
halfDuplexCapsLock = false
halfDuplexNumLock = false
halfDuplexScrollLock = false
xtestIsXineramaUnaware = false
preserveFocus = false
switchCorners = none
switchCornerSize = 0
end
section: options
relativeMouseMoves = true
screenSaverSync = true
win32KeepForeground = false
clipboardSharing = true
switchCorners = none +top-left +top-right +bottom-left +bottom-right
switchCornerSize = 0
keystroke() = keystroke(Shift+>,*)
end
Note that I had to map the
key to
to make it work.\
Also the <
didn't work properly: adding (<) = keystroke(<,*)
solved the issue.
So, I tried to add the following possibilities to solve the
+
+
problem:
keystroke(Alt+Shift+/) = keystroke(Alt+Shift+/,*)
keystroke(Alt+Shift+/) = keystroke(AltGr+Shift+/,*)
keystroke(Alt+Shift+7) = keystroke(Alt+Shift+7,*)
keystroke(Alt+Shift+7) = keystroke(AltGr+Shift+7,*)
But none of those options worked.
My question is if there is an (other) way to solve that issue?
Thank you in advance for reading my question and your reply.

I'm running Pop-os 22.04 LTS on my laptop and Windows 11 on my computer and I've been trying to set up mouse and keyboard share with Barrier (my Windows PC as a server and my POP OS laptop as a Client). The connection works fine, but the mouse becomes invisible when I enter the popos screen (I'm sure it works cause if I use popos as server then everything is okay). I tried using enabling/disabling Xorg by editing gdm3 file but it can't solve the issue. Is this a known issue and if yes, does anyone know how to fix it?
(Barrier 2.3.3 on windows as a server works just fine, but if I install 2.4 on windows then this problem arises?

Lost control of Raspbian (Buster) system after modifying X11 (/etc/X11) Xsession script

I've unfortunately managed to lock myself out of my own playground (Raspberry Pi 4B, Raspbian Buster) after attempting what was originally going to be a solution to autostarting a network-kvm (synergy) script at bootup for more convenient use.
I had not been able to get the client application of Synergy to connect to my server, so I read that the X11 "Xsession" script may likely be the culprit. Within
/etc/X11/Xsession
I foolishly placed a one-liner to run my client application once screen control was inherently established:
/usr/bin/killall synergyc sleep 1 /usr/bin/synergyc synergy-server
Unfortunately, I am now prompted with a login screen for my one single user "pi" which would normally automatically boot up. This was my super-user account where I'd just sudo whatever I needed root credentials for. It accepts the password, but boots me right back out to the login screen again, presumably when killall
is executed again.
Is there a way to revert back to a particular time from today to boot the system back into? I have Shift keyed into Recovery Mode but Raspbian, as far as I can tell, only allows me to reload the OS. Is there a way to modify this Xsession script otherwise, or am I pretty much S.O.L. here?
Thanks

I have a working configuration of a Gentoo as a host and a Windows 10 as a guest using QEMU/KVM with GPU passthrough. I also passthrough my keyboard and mouse, and have a secondary keyboard in a different USB port, which is used by the host.
I have installed Synergy on both operating systems, but even thought they share the same IP, I can't get them to see each other with "localhost". I have read that I should rather use bridges, or tun-tap devices, but I can't really understand what they do and would like a bit of help setting them up.
Finally, here is my qemu startup script:

I have Synergy installed on Ubuntu 18.04 (this is not the new version 2, fwiw). Apparently, it has a requirement of
libcurl3
. However, the machine also runs as a hypervisor and I need to use libguestfs-tools
to access disk images which requires a different version of curl.
So, when I run apt install libguestfs-tools
, it tries to remove both libcurl3
and synergy
. I have stopped it thus far, but am hoping that there might be a way to isolate one or the other into a sandbox or some other alternative method to be able to have both installed simultaneously.
Apologies if this is a duplicate, but I wasn't sure how to phrase the question.

I have installed synergy 1.5 on a RHEL6 server (panther) and Xubuntu 13.10 (wolf). My synergy.conf file is
section: options
screenSaverSync = true
end
section: screens
panther:
wolf:
end
section: links
panther:
right = wolf
wolf:
left = panther
end
As a non-root user on panther I start the server
synergys --config /etc/synergy.conf
and get the following message
INFO: Synergy 1.5.0 Server on Linux 2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Feb 20 12:17:37 EST 2013 x86_64
However when I run
synergyc -f panther
on the client machine
NOTE: connecting to panther: 172.31.70.161:24800
WARNING: failed to connect to server: incompatible client 1.3
I get the same error when substituting panther with the ip and also with iptables disabled on the server.
Any ideas

I am using Synergy version 1.4.6 (Debian - Client) and 1.4.5 (Windows - Host).
Keyboard and mouse are attached to the host system. I want to use the client without any mouse or keyboard connected. However as soon as I unplug the client's mouse and reset synergy the mouse cursor disappears on the host.
Synergy
is still functioning well, however without showing any mouse cursor on host side.
Is it possible to have no mouse attached to the client host and still see a mouse cursor? Is it possible to virtualize a mouse driver/device on clients side?

I was using Synergy from Symless. It shares the mouse and keyboard between computers. So it is similar to having secondary or third screen attached to your computer.
The Scenario is: having a laptop and a PC.
- On laptop screen, I do some typing with a text editor (Active window).
- On PC screen, the browser is open (Not fullscreen, but active). Under it, there is music player (Fullscreen, but not active).
- When I move my mouse to laptop screen, the focus is on the text editor (even if the mouse is not hovering on the text editor)
- When I move my mouse to PC screen, the focus is on the browser (even if the mouse is hovering on the music player)
**=> That is the desired behavior, and that is how Synergy works.**
Now I want mimic that behavior with one computer but multiple screens.
I'm using Elementary.
Under Tweak Tool, there is a focus option. The options are
Click
(Change focusing window in click), Mouse
(Change focusing window by hovering the mouse) and Sloppy
(Same as Mouse, actually don't know how it is different from Mouse
).
The nearest I got to mimic the behavior in the scenario is to use Mouse
focus mode. But you have to move the mouse onto the window you want to focus. This mode is annoying when you open a new window, but the focus is not on that new window because the mouse is off somewhere.
**So what I want is probably Click
focus mode, but each screen has a different Active Window of itself. When I move my mouse to a screen, the Active Window of that screen should raise up.**
Do anyone happen to know how to achieve what I described? The goal is to unify the work flow. At home I have my laptop and my PC, but at the office I have my laptop and the secondary screen.
So the different setup pause me and sometimes irritating.

I'm trying to get [Synergy](http://www.synergy-project.org/) , which is a keyboard and mouse sharing tool, to autostart on a second desktop. I'm using the distro [BunsenLabs](https://www.bunsenlabs.org/) which is based on Debian Jessie on both desktops, and so I have LightDM as displaymanager and Openbox as windowmanager.
The computer which has the keyboard+mouse physically attached is called the *server* and runs *synergys*. The computer controlled by the virtual keyboard+mouse is called *client* and runs *synergyc*
So, on the client I added the following line just below *[SeatDefaults]* to */etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf* :
greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/synergyc 192.168.0.10
I also added this line to *~/.config/openbox/autostart* :
/usr/bin/synergyc 192.168.0.10
When I boot everything works as it should; I can use the keyboard+mouse from my primary desktop on my secondary desktop and log in. After logging in Synergy continues to work properly.
It's just when I lock my screen or wake up from hibernate/sleep, *synergyc* isn't working any more.
The forums and blogs I've read all suggest the above two lines should be everything needed to have synergyc running at all times, so I wouldn't need an extra keyboard just to log in.
**Update -Solved:**
When I'm logged in and look at the running processes I see synergyc running 6 times, 3x as root and 3x as *MyUsername*. When I lock my screen, 3 additional synergyc processes running as root appear. When I unlock again (using a 2nd keyboard, synergy is not responding at this time) the 3 additional processes close and synergy starts working again.
I've put this script in my lightdm.conf: #!/bin/bash -x /usr/bin/pkill -u root synergyc while [ $(pgrep -u root -x synergys) ]; do sleep 0.1; done /usr/bin/synergyc 192.168.xx.xxx Now everything works and I can remove my 2nd keyboard+mouse. I'm using Synergy to control an OpenBSD desktop from a Linux computer (think of it like a VNC client/server). That is to say what I type on the keyboard goes through a network connection before it reaches the remote terminal.
How do I make sure that gpg-agent reads a passphrase only when it's typed from the **physical** keyboard connected to the OpenBSD workstation? In other words, how do I make sure that
stdin
comes from the keyboard and **not** from synergy?
I'm working on a worst-case scenario where the linux box I'm using to control the remote OpenBSD machine is compromised with a keylogger. Note that synergy works in a reversed client-server configuration, i.e. the OpenBSD machine is the synergy *client*, and the Linux box is the synergy *server*.
I've tried exporting GPG_TTY
to /dev/wskbd0
but to no avail. Is that even possible?

I checked on the synergy website but was not able to find very much about the subject. I'm trying to be able to essentially alt+tab and cycle through all the applications I have running on all my computers.
It's not necessary that all windows show up on the main screen but I'd like to be able to shift focus to a different window without having to move my mouse.

I don't know if it's a problem with Synergy or with X, but my guess is that the compose key is 'eaten' by X before Synergy can get it.
How can I check if this is correct? If so, is there a way to both use the key for composing and pass it to Synergy?

Following the instructions from slm, I get the results below.
So the compose key is caught by Synergy, but the id and the onKeyUp mask are different.
When right Alt is defined as a compose key:
new mask: 0x2000
event: KeyPress code=108, state=0x0010
onKeyDown id=61216 mask=0x2000 button=0x006c
send key down to "tapioca" id=61216, mask=0x2000, button=0x006c
new mask: 0x2000
event: KeyRelease code=108, state=0x0010
onKeyUp id=61216 mask=0x2000 button=0x006c
send key up to "tapioca" id=61216, mask=0x2000, button=0x006c
When right Alt is not defined as a compose key:
new mask: 0x2000
event: KeyPress code=108, state=0x0010

I'm trying to build from source using CMake as recommended (http://synergy-foss.org/pm/projects/synergy/wiki/Compiling)
[d3p299@we16410 synergy-1.3.7-Source]$ ./hm.py build
Running setup...
Error: Generator not specified, use -g arg (use
hm genlist
for a list of generators).
So I lsit the generators:
[d3p299@we16410 synergy-1.3.7-Source]$ ./hm.sh genlist
1: Unix Makefiles
2: Eclipse CDT4 - Unix Makefiles
Ok I need index 1, so I try:
[d3p299@we16410 synergy-1.3.7-Source]$ ./hm.py build -g 1
Error: option -g not recognized
Maybe the syntax of the command is wrong?
[d3p299@we16410 synergy-1.3.7-Source]$ ./hm.py usage
Usage: ./hm.py [-g |-v|--no-prompts|]
Example: ./hm.py build -g 3
I am running the command correctly as suggested in the help command. What gives?

How can I use Synergy when connected through different routers?

I use synergy to control my laptop from my desktop when I have my laptop docked at my workstation. Currently, I need to keep my laptop wired to the same router that my desktop is connected to in order to use synergy. However, I will also take my laptop and work from other parts of the house. I'd like to use just wireless on the laptop, so I don't have to switch connections to get up and move around.
My desktop has a wired connection to a router. When I'm using wireless on my laptop, I'm connecting through a different router. Is there a way to set up synergy to connect from the wireless router
192.168.17.*
to the wired network 192.168.250.*
?
I don't know much about network set up or terminology, so if I'm not including any pertinent details, please ask.

If anyone doesn't know about synergy , it's basically a KVM switch over the lan, but you don't have to switch anything. It allows you to move your mouse from one machine to the other like if you had dual monitors.
My question is: is it possible to set up your config so that you have 1 server and 1 client, both have dual monitors, but the client machine has its monitors such that one is on the left of the server's left monitor, and the other is on the right of the server's right monitor? So for example:
------------ ----------- ------------ ------------- | client | | server | | server | | client | | screen1 | | screen1 | | screen2 | | screen2 | | | | | | | | | |----------| |---------| |----------| |-----------|Hopefully my ascii is good enough to understand. The reason I ask here is because both machines will be running linux, and I'm fairly certain that there's no supported way to do this in the synergy configs. But I am completely willing to muck with X configs on the client to get it to work. I would set this up so that the only way the client could be used is through this synergy setup, so any X mucking won't have to be changed. How synergy config works is that on your server, you give it the configuration of your screens. So you'll say client1 is right of server, and server is left of client1. What I was thinking is, is there a way to somehow make X think each display is connected on a different server. So I could say like clientS1(192.168.1.1:1234) is left of server. And clientS2(192.168.1.1:1235) is right of server. And X will know which screen it is? I'm sure that last paragraph is confusing, but maybe someone who knows more about synergy or X can point me in the right direction.
