However, the popup that appears is too wide, and I need to keep pressing Tab (while maintaining Alt) to show windows that are too far to the right. Is there a way to 'wrap' the popup window, in a similar way to how MS Windows does things?

This is going to drive me crazy. I am having immense issues getting New Worlds to a. Open on the Correct monitor, and b. Run at the correct resolution. I have 3 monitors, setup using xrandr (Arch, i3). Two 1080p monitors and a 4k monitor designated as primary. When I launch New World, 75% of the time it launches on the primary display. That random 25% of the time though, it insists on launching on the 1080p display. When it does this, I try to go into video settings in-game to select my 4K monitor for display, but it doesn't show up and the max resolution available is 1080p. Has anyone else run into similar issues? The only way I've found to resolve it involves removing all data for the game within /{steam_install_location}/steamapps/compatdata/1063730/ Arch w/ Linux Kernel 6.1.1, running New Worlds via Steam/Proton.

How to isolate open applications, and ideally processes, in Ubuntu workspace?

I combine work and study, so I need a separate set of tabs for each task. For example: for work it is chrome with work-related tabs, vscode, obsidian.md and others, and for study - chrome, but with others, overleaf, pycharm, todoist etc. If you use built-in workspaces, the problem is that when you open the same application in one workspace, it opens a window of that application in another workspace, switching workspaces. I would like tabs to be separate, and ideally -- and processes, so that multiple instances of, for example, telegram, spotify, and similar applications can be opened. One way to do this is to have separate users, but when you switch between them, one or the other user instance goes into hibernation or shuts down. So my question is: how to isolate open applications or even processes, if it's possible, in Ubuntu workspace?

How do I switch to the next window (NOT the most recent one) in Gnome/Cinnamon?

Let's say that I have 26 open windows in Gnome (specifically, Cinnamon 3.8.8). I want to efficiently navigate through all of them and perform a single task in each. How do I accomplish this? Alt-Tab and Alt-Tick have the behavior of going to the *previous* window, so if I'm on A and I hit them once then I'm B, but hit them again and I'm on A rather than onto C. You have to hit them successively more times to get to the later windows, which just doesn't work at all. Instead, I want to be on window A, press a keyboard shortcut, be on window B, press the shortcut again, be on window C, etc. In other words, I want to navigate through the windows showing on my desktop taskbar in exactly the way I use Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab to navigate through tabs within an application. How do I accomplish this? I'm on Debian, for what it's worth, but I don't think that should affect the answer.

How can I get Linux Mint to show 3-d app switcher like in Windows 7?
In Windows 7 there was a setting to make `Windows+Tab` display a 3-d preview of every application and holding down the `Windows` key while releasing and pressing the `Tab` key would cycle through each application. How can I get the same functionality in Mint?

I'd like to be able to execute a command when switching to specific applications. In particular, I'd like to able to change the xmodmap when switching to the Terminal and then change it again when switching away (e.g. to firefox). I figure that it may be possible to detect when an application comes to the foreground, and then run xmodmap? How would I do this (esp. on Ubuntu 19.04, X11)? Some things I've discovered: There is a visibilityNotify event which the X server can produce. Not sure how to utilise this and whether it does what I want? "xdotool search --class Terminal behave %@ focus getwindowpid" notifies on focus change, which is great. However, getactivewindow causes a segmentation fault, so I cannot actually get the window id for use with xwininfo or similar. Any ideas along those lines?

In xmonad, how can I bind a keyboard shortcut to focus a specific application?
E.g. I want to bind Mod + Shift + m to bring me to the window whose className is "Emacs", so I can instantly switch to that application regardless which workspace I'm in and which window I'm focusing.

My editor (Emacs or whatever) for markdown is on the left, the other on the right (web browser to view the results of changes I made in editor.) - Save changes in my editor - Press Alt-Tab to switch to browser window. I usually have many windows open and it is sometimes taking time to press Alt-Tab several times (I usually miss the window I need.) Then click F5 to refresh my browser. - Then back to my editor to edit my markdown and recycle above items again if necessary. I wonder there is a way to shorten the time of doing all the steps above. I am using Gnome. I would like to bind a key for all steps above.

An indicator(a small triangle or some other visual indicator) that tells which task/window is currently active 2. when I type Super+n/p to move to the task/window on the right/left. 3. [nice to have feature] provide a way to focus on a task/window by just using keyboard, maybe label the task/window with numbers. Is there anyway to achieve the above function? or there's some other better recommendation?

I realize that I can multiple sessions within one screen but what I'm wondering is, if I can import existing sessions?

I'm more used to Unity and I really like the option of placing my mouse pointer over an opened application icon and scroll the mouse wheel to move between the application's opened windows. In XFCE this still works but it also traverses between all opened windows for other applications, while I only want to change windows the application I'm pointing at. For example if I have multiple Chromium windows opened and my IDE too. If I place the mouse's pointer over Chromium and scroll, the IDE windows will be shown if I scroll long enough, while I only need to switch between Chromium windows. How can this be done please ?

I'm trying to be able to essentially alt+tab and cycle through all the applications I have running on all my computers.
