Does flashing incorrect ROMs or changing the partition table ever result in damaged motherboard components?

My question is specific to Xiaomi devices and Nvidia Tegra SoC (and possibly Qualcomm SoC too). It hasn't happened to me personally, but from the extensive forum discussions on the Xiaomi support site, its apparent that some permanent damage is caused to the motherboard components (especially the eMMC) in at least two circumstances:
1. When you try to change the partition table using parted or a similar utility.
2. When you try to flash a ROM of a different device.
Now, I'm not saying that these are sensible things to do (at least the second one), but I don't see how any of them could actually lead to any hardware issues. What I want to know is, does this happen naturally because of the way handset/tablet motherboards are designed? Or does a chip maker deliberately cause the hardware to fail in this situation to have control over their device usage (the way they control by locking the bootloader or custom source-code apparently)?

I have a tablet and I'd like to use adb but I have some probles, I looked on google but without luck...
**Tablet Info: (from tablet)**
Model Nr: SN10T1
Android OS Version: 2.2
TapUI Version: 1.2-4204
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-0001
Build Nr: FRF91
I did the following:
- Activate Debug Usb on tablet
- Downloaded and installed android-sdk and google-usb-driver
- Edited the file
extras/google/usb_driver/android_winusb.inf
adding under [Google.NTx86]
and [Google.NTamd64]
;NVIDIA Tegra
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0955&PID_7000
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0955&PID_7100&MI_01
Restarted adb but using adb devices it does not show the tablet....
I checked under device manager the VID and PID of my device and VID = 0955, PID = 7100 so they are the same of the file above...
Triyng to reinstall the driver using extras/google/usb_driver/android_winusb.inf
I got this error:
The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it's designed to works with Windows x64 based system
I have windows 7 64bit Professional...

My LG G2X P999 doesn't boot into APX mode

I have a **LG G2X P999** phone and as with most of my phones I root them. I have seen many tutorials on how to root my version (**Gingerbread 2.3.3**) and in all I must boot the phone in **APX** mode in order to install the Nvidia drivers.
The method is **NvFlash** which installs ClockWorkMod (**CWM**) which then serves as a basis to root the phone. But before CWM can be installed the phone battery must be removed, the volume up & down button pressed simultaneously and then connected via the USB cable to the computer. According to the tutorial I should see APX device with a yellow triangle. The tutorial already provides the necessary drivers to install. The problem is when I connect my phone I just hear the traditional windows sound which indicates that something has been inserted. Checking the device manager reveals no unusual device. It is really baffling me why the phone is not booting as it should into APX mode. This is fairly a straightforward process so I guess I most be missing something.
**FAQ**
1. I have several USB cables and I have tried them all.
2. I have a clean install of windows 7 which I can revert back to a previous state. I have tried the process several times.
3. USB debugging is checked.
4. The phone doesn't have any physical defects; all buttons respond as should be. Everything is working.
5. I have several computers and in all I get the same results.

I can press-and-hold Volume-down key while boot-up to enter fastboot mode, and it displays the following message on screen:
Preparing for entering recovery mode...
I've tried several key combinations but couldn't get into recovery mode. Could somebody please show me some hints?

Video player for H264 videos for Adam/Tegra2?
It seems that the Adam is not fast enough to decode my H264 videos. With some players I get unsync audio, some skip video frames. Even usual PAL size (something around 500x300, far from HD). The players I tried include
* MX Video Player -- best results, but can not keep up with most H264 vids
* VPlayer -- good results
* RockPlayer -- often recommended, often tried, no good results.
As you can see, all freely available ones. I *would like* buy one, If I would know that my videos are handled properly.
**Can you suggest a video player that really uses Tegra2 hardware decoding capabilities and therefore will decode the H264 videos nicely?**
(Is it important to know that I run Adamcomb on it?)

Does the HTC One X support GLONASS?
I'm looking to buy the brand new HTC One X (Tegra 3 version) but I want to know if it's compatible with GLONASS (Russian GPS satnav equivalent). I already know that the Snapdragon S4 version supports it but does the Tegra 3 support it as well?

Is there any way to filter out Tegra-only games?
I've noticed that Android Market sometimes allow me to download 3d games even when they are not compatible with my device (LG Optimus One p500), for example because the games require a Tegra GPU. Is there a way to filter Tegra-only games from the Market?
