What is the meaning of 'no acceptable variant' ERROR message?

I have a Mac mini Server with Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), where I run a WebDAV Server for syncing my OmniFocus (Mac iPad). But I don't use the Web-Server itself (only WebDAV). When I do a sync in OmniFocus from my iPad, I can see the following ERROR message in the apache2 error_log file: [..14] [error] [client IP] no acceptable variant: /usr/share/httpd/error/HTTP_UNAUTHORIZED.html.var ---------- OmniFocus has no problem and **sync just works fine** (debug logfiles show clearly that WebDAV works as intended and the client has the needed User permissions & rights). Only the Web-Server is making trouble. I suppose that an **ERROR message** in my WebServer logfile **means that something is not configured as it should be**?! I understand that it has something to do with '*Multi Language Custom Error Documents*' which is on by Default and is dependant on several Apache Modules. But even after reading several Readme files and studying online Tutorials it is far beyond my understanding of how this works together. My Mac mini Server is still not in productive mode and turned off most the time. I only turn it on to resolve this last remaining ERROR message. ---------- What I tried so far: • extensive Google search / even on SE sites • read all possible (available) Apple Server manuals • started reading the Apache Server manuals • I spent several nights trying to fix the problem (fiddling with .conf files) • I did reset to default settings for the Apache Server • I talked with some hackers about 'Apache Modules' at the 30C3 Congress in Hamburg • Installed a 2nd Mac OS X Server on another Volume to recover default conf files/values ---------- • Could someone please explain me the meaning of 'no acceptable variant' ? • Why does this ERROR matter? What do I need to understand to fix this ERROR?

I am having trouble with my High Sierra OS X Server's file sharing volumes. Sometimes the connection is very slow. Other times I can't connect. Then I sometimes have multiple mounted volumes of the same share, but I can't write to any of them. I don't have any hard drives converted to APFS, so my question was, is there a way to activate AFP from Terminal? sudo serveradmin fullstatus afp shows that there is something still there and I can start the afp demon without any error message with serveradmin start afp. My only question is where do I configure the settings? Thanks for any suggestions. ;-)

As server assembling becoming less of a norm for software engineers, leave Web-based entrepreneurs with 2 choices: 1. Backend as a service: buy a service (e.g., VPS) and deploy a code on some other company's servers. 2. Scale/grow your servers: Just buy servers and scaling them to fulfill the need of your apps. The first choice is not suitable for me, mainly because of security issues. So I go with the second choice. Therefore, I would like to grow my own servers, but would like to use an Apple-based product. However, Apple does not provide server racks anymore, so I left with using Mac Mini servers. I would like to know is it efficient to solely based a business logic on a cluster of Mac Mini servers?

I run Lion Server (10.7.5) on an old iMac (2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and it handles my e-mail for me. I've been having some trouble recently with delays in delivery of e-mail to my server from DynDNS's mail backup service. I have been advised to add DynDNS's IP range (216.146.32.0/23) to my whitelist. Trawling the net has revealed how to add a single host to the whitelist (add it to /etc/postfix/rbl_whitelist), but that IP range holds 512 hosts. Also, the Mac version of /etc/postfix/rbl_whitelist contains the following text: ### DO NOT MANUALLY EDIT THIS FILE ### # This file is automatically generated # any manual additions to this file will be lost which suggests to me that there is another way of doing it. Can anyone enlighten me please?

I have a Mavericks server with ALL services disabled in Server.app in an attempt to figure out what's causing a huge number of log messages. When I check to see what services are running, I see the output at the end of this question. It implies that the Wiki server (com.apple.collabd), the Xcode server (com.apple.xcs* and com.apple.servermgr.xcode.*), the calendar server (org.calendarserver.*), Profile Manager (com.apple.DeviceManagement.*) and others are all running, or at least parts of them are running. The main concern is _thousands_ of messages per minute that look like this: Jan 18 02:59:25 domain.com collabd: [CSODService.m:78 f0a3000 +0ms] Failed to convert user externalID servermgr_xcode to uuid_t for membership check Jan 18 02:59:25 --- last message repeated 1 time --- Jan 18 02:59:25 domain.com serveradmin: [XcodeRequestHandler+DeviceSupport.m:183 73552310 +0ms] Filtering device because it does not have a serial number (e.g. mac or simulator device) Jan 18 02:59:25 domain.com collabd: [CSODService.m:78 f0a3000 +0ms] Failed to convert user externalID servermgr_xcode to uuid_t for membership check Jan 18 02:59:25 --- last message repeated 1 time --- Jan 18 02:59:25 domain.com serveradmin: [XcodeRequestHandler+DeviceSupport.m:183 73552310 +0ms] Filtering device because it does not have a serial number (e.g. mac or simulator device) These appear to be from the _disabled_ Wiki and Xcode services. They get annoying and also cause excessive log file I/O, not to mention other effects of running services that aren't needed or wanted. My question is threefold: 1. Why are these running if they're disabled in Server.app? 2. Is there a thorough list of server processes and descriptions, preferably provided by Apple? 3. How do I disable them, and which ones are critical to keep running? I'm specifically looking at ones like SCEPHelper for which there is no manpage and doesn't seem to have any description online. Certain ones, like apspd, are used for server push notifications and so should stay running. I'm mainly concerned with which ones must stay running for things like remote administration. I've already tried serveradmin stop X for the Xcode and calendar services, and although I can stop and start them that way, those few stray services still stay running. Also, a bonus question: where is the manpage or help document for serverctl? Disabled and enabled services shown here: $ sudo serverctl list { disabledServices = ( "com.apple.AccountsConfigService", "com.apple.afctl", "com.apple.AssetCache", "com.apple.collabd.expire", "com.apple.collabd.notifications", "com.apple.collabd.preview", "com.apple.collabd.quicklook", "com.apple.collabd.scm_poller", "com.apple.collabd.stats", "com.apple.DeviceManagement.dmrunnerd", "com.apple.DeviceManagement.php-fpm", "com.apple.ftpserver", "com.apple.list_server_mgr", "com.apple.mail_exclusion", "com.apple.mail_status_init", "com.apple.mail_status_periodic", "com.apple.ppp.l2tp", "com.apple.ppp.pptp", "com.apple.push_notify", "com.apple.Rooms", "com.apple.salearn", "com.apple.saupdate", "com.apple.server.filesharing", "com.apple.server.mail.alerts", "com.apple.server.netboot", "com.apple.server.opendirectory", "com.apple.swupdate.host", "com.apple.swupdate.sync", "com.apple.xcs.stats", "com.apple.xcsbuildd", "com.apple.xcscgsessiond", "org.amavis.amavisd", "org.amavis.amavisd_cleanup", "org.calendarserver.calendarserver", "org.clamav.clamd", "org.clamav.freshclam-init", "org.clamav.freshclam", "org.dovecot.dovecotd", "org.dovecot.fts.update", "org.freeradius.radiusd", "org.isc.named", "org.jabber.jabberd", "org.jabber.proxy65", "org.postgresql.postgres" ); enabledServices = ( "com.apple.apspd", "com.apple.collabd", "com.apple.DeviceManagement.devicemgrd", "com.apple.DeviceManagement.postgres", "com.apple.DeviceManagement.SCEPHelper", "com.apple.opendirectorybackup", "com.apple.server.alertsd", "com.apple.server.eventsd", "com.apple.server.v2.stats", "com.apple.ServerEventAgent", "com.apple.servermgr_xcode.get_currently_connected_devices", "com.apple.servermgr_xcode.sync_adc", "com.apple.servermgrd", "com.apple.disks.smart.status", "com.apple.xcscredd", "com.apple.xcscredhandler", "com.apple.xcsdevicesnifferd", "com.apple.xcsxcodeappwatcher", "org.calendarserver.agent", "org.calendarserver.relocate" ); }

Server Admin: How to set up multiple mail domains?
I've got a co.uk domain set up in Server Admin on an OS X Lion server for mail. It's all running fine. I'd like to also set up a .com domain to run through the same mail server. Is this possible? If so can someone give me details on how to set it up - without losing the .co.uk domain?
