I'm looking for some clarification regarding the AppCloud application that comes pre-installed on Samsung smartphones. From what I understand, it suggests and installs recommended apps, including ones I manually select through its interface.
My concern is this:
**When an app is installed through AppCloud, is it possible that the app receives the permissions it requests automatically, without any user interaction?**
Normally, when I install an app via the Play Store and open it for the first time, Android prompts me to grant specific permissions (like access to the camera, location, etc.). However, since AppCloud appears to be a system-level app, I’m wondering if it has elevated privileges that allow it to bypass this standard permission behavior and grant permissions to apps silently.
I’d appreciate any insights into whether this is technically possible—especially considering I’m using Android 14.

Can an app tell if it's been downloaded through an unofficial store?
Let's say I download an app using Aurora Store and I start using it, can this app know what source it has been downloaded from? Can it tell if the download source was different from the Play Store?

I am considering setting up fully managed Android devices at work, and I am also quite fond of the idea of using open-source apps.
However, installing F-Droid and giving the users the privileges to install apps somehow defeats the purpose and premise of the devices being fully managed.

I noticed this yesterday.
I went onto Play Store and had "10 app updates available".
I then went on to Aurora Store and there were "125 app updates available".
I checked the version number of a few apps online, and it did seem as though the updates were legitimate.
My questions:
* Are the updates on Aurora Store legitimate?
* And, if so, why are they not showing on Play Store?

What are the alternative Android app markets?
How many competing Android markets (other than the Play Store itself) are there and are they any good? Which ones do you use and why?

Is it safe to download and install Google Play from apkmirror.com ? How can I check this is a safe download?
Backstory:
I had to factory reset my original Samsung Galaxy Tab as it refused to start up. After the reset, I haven't been able to update Google Play. Every time I try, it crashes with '(process com.android.vending) has stopped working'.
I've seen multiple references to the site, but nothing official from Google.

I recently updated the Google Play Services via APK Mirror and now have the January 1, 2021 version. However, some others told me that the only thing the APK Mirror update does is changing the date (in my case: from December to January), and that Google will later send the same update for the same date, which will be the real update.
Anyone else heard anything about this? Are APK Mirror updates legit the same update Google sends, or it simply only changes the date and nothing else?
This is for an Android Pixel phone.

How can I deploy an APK for android that is only available for the devices I specify beforehand?
I would like to a host a private application that is only available to workers inside the company and only for the devices that are owned by the company.
I know I can do this with Google Play, but that requires a G-Suite/Workspace subscription we do not have.
I would like to continuously deploy new versions and the devices to update automatically.
Are there any custom marketplaces that allow this? Anything else?

Say I have "FunnyApp" installed from Playstore, now it turns up at F-Droid – and I want to replace the Playstore version by the F-Droid one (same issue vice-versa). Trouble is, I cannot simply update the app from the new source as the signature doesn't match (F-Droid signs with their own key). FunnyApp doesn't offer any "export" functionality, but I don't want to lose its data.
**What would be possible approaches to perform a proper switch?**
Traps:
* Simply updating/installing from "the other source" does not work (signature mismatch)
* performing a data-only
adb backup
doesn't help, as the restore will fail for the same reason
I have some vague ideas on root-based solutions which I haven't tried yet (e.g. Titanium Backup might be able to restore data despite of the changed signature, and there's also some XPosed module (InstallerOpts?) offering to "suppress the signature warning"). But before "messing up big" I thought to ask here if someone might already have successfully tried some solution.
Non-root solutions preferred (so more people can profit from), root-based solutions acceptable, XPosed as requirement OK as well.

Some reasons why one might want to "switch sources" (aka "cross-update"): Getting rid of proprietary dependencies, app no longer updated at original source …

How to make alternative app markets perform automatic updates?

F-Droid also tells me that the signing key is different as well. Is it a common practice to create new signing keys upon updating an app?
(Yes, I'm concerned about 3rd-parties using dirty tricks to gain access to my devices.)
