I installed Sophos Intercept X for Mobile on a new Tablet.
Intercept X is showing:  > Android compatibility verification FAILED” indicates the Android OS on the tablet is not validated according to Google's validation tools.  It might not be an unofficial Android version itself - an unofficial Android version is installed - but instead the device might have been rooted or there are key Google apps missing.  Since Sophos Intercept X for Mobile is supposed to ensure that your device is secure and protected, it reports anything that could be a vulnerability. a) (key Google apps missing) I followed online instructions to find missing Google apps - "How to check missing Google apps on Android 13 tablet" but none were listed in the subsequent search. Also, check within Google Play with no missing apps shown.

 b) (device might have been rooted )I used a program from the Google Play Store to check if the unit is Rooted.
Result "Pad_6S_Pro is not rooted"
Running Android 8.1.0 (Oreo)

 c) (unofficial Android version) The Supplier of the tablet states an official version of Android 13 is installed. Sophos Technical Support stated: > You may choose to ignore the check at your discretion. but I would not trust the device for handling or storing sensitive personal information or banking if you are not able to address the reason why it it is reporting the compatibility failure. I am at a loss as to how to proceed to determine the reason for Sophos Intercept X for Mobile warning “Android compatibility verification FAILED”.

Any ideas would be most welcome.
Thank you
(I have used Sophos Intercept X for Mobile on my Mobile for many years without the warning mentioned about showing.)

How to verify if device is reporting fake technical specs like Android version, RAM, or storage memory?

I've been asked if I can check some faulty behavior of a device, a cheap Chinese android smartphone. I'm not really an android expert, usually I install a few apps to help me figure out few things about the device. These apps I've reported conflicting results compared to what was displayed in the main android settings area: - With DiskUsage internal memory is reported as 3.9gb vs 16gb in system settings. - Device Info HW (suggested by @alecxs) explicitly mark as fake the reported version 9.0, pointing Android 6 as correct with API level 23. Unfortunately the app reports the same storage size of 16gb as stated in system settings. Following another intuition of @alecxs, inspecting the partitions tab and looking at the displayed partitions sizes, it's possible to detect yet another forged spec. The total reported partitions size is around 8gb, the userdata partition is around 4gb which is corresponding to DiskUsage report. In my previous attempt I've CPU Info . This kinda reminds me of fake USB thumb drives scams with less memory than advertised. So is there a way (preferably without root) to test/analyze common technical details of a device for possible tampering/spoofing? Like - Storage - Android version - RAM - CPU - Something else that can be faked? FLOSS solutions are highly appreciated! :) **UPDATES** - Listed used apps and updated after suggestions in comments. - Added considerations and further analysis of partitions memory size.

Offbrand Android states one OS but shows another in linked apps

I recently bought a generic 10" tablet by E-CrossStu that stated it is on Android 11 with 512GB storage with 4GB RAM. I thought this is a great deal for $100. I am now going through trying to add the apps I use and many say "incompatible with OS version" or just don't show up in the Play Store at all. I thought this can't be right if it's Android 11. Then I get emails from Gmail and Amazon trying to confirm that it is me signing in from a different device stating the sign-ins are from an Android 5.1 tablet. Did I just get duped? I cannot find ANYTHING on the web regarding this happening to others. In the tablet settings, it does state Android 11 with specs advertised. When I try System Update, Software Updates, or Wireless Updates, it just goes to the About Tablet page which states: - Android 11 - Model # & Custom Build: TAB910 - Baseband Version: MOLY.WR8.W1449.MD.WG.MP.V16 - CPU: 10cores2.3GHz - Kernel: 3.10.72 root@twd-PowerEdge-R720xd - Build Number: K1008P95_V1.0.3_211119. And None of those lines can be opened to get further settings. I am just confused and think my device has some fake information locked into it somehow so I'm not really getting what it states even in the System Settings...and I'm a little concerned about privacy/security if that is something that can really be done... Any thoughts?
