How do I keep Numbers from mangling numbers when importing a CSV?
When I open a CSV file in Numbers, it "helpfully" converts fields it recognizes as numeric by stripping leading zeros, converting things it recognizes as dates, etc. Take for example, you type a UPC code into a Numbers spreadsheet **005566778899**, Numbers will automatically convert that to **556677...

However, the way *I* use Numbers, I open databases with thousands of UPC codes with preceding zeroes. Some of them also contain **dates** which Numbers will also reformat. Basically I do not want any of these features, I want my content to be left alone.

At first I thought maybe I did a typo but this keeps happening.
Every single instance was where the word is actually spelled correctly however it replaces it with another word.
I've turned spell-check off so I am confused as to why it's doing it at all.

Whenever I'm using Google Translate, the source language field doesn't use autocorrect.
For example: when I translate from English to any language, when I type English words, the app doesn't autocorrect any of the words (like "dont" to "don't", and all spelling errors).
This issue is not global to the entire app, since the Feedback input field uses autocorrect, as does almost every other app on the phone.
There are no app settings that correspond to autocorrect, and the autocorrect settings are enabled for the entire OS.
**Solutions that have no effect:**
1. Deleting the app and reinstalling, where all data is confirmed deleted by noticing that the translation history is gone
2. Rebooting the phone
3. Toggling autocorrect off and on again in the global iOS settings

Since upgrading to iOS 13 I've noticed that every time I type my name (primarily in Messages and Mail apps) auto-correct insists on fully capitalizing my name (James > JAMES) whereas before it would only capitalize the first letter. I don't know why it has suddenly started doing this and can't find any way to 'reset' the auto-correct dictionary. Turning off auto-correction in Keyboard settings doesn't make any difference to this behaviour. Any advice on how to fix this annoying feature?

When I type on my iPhone I rely a decent amount on autocorrect to figure out what I wanted, and it's almost always right. When it isn't I delete the word and retype it.
Seems like in a recent update, they've started adding blue lines underneath every word that was autocorrected. I find this extremely annoying because usually at that point it's already been autocorrected to the right thing, but it makes my brain focus on it and interrupts my flow of tapping. Even though there isn't usually any further change to be made.
What I want is to go back to the old way, where autocorrect was still on (which I love) but there weren't these blue lines (which I hate). Any way to do that?

I have set up a number of custom shortcuts for math/logic symbols to use in Word and OneNote, including the left/right arrow ↔. This works in OneNote, but I also need it to work in Word, but it keeps autocorrecting to the corresponding arrow emoji which is incredibly frustrating.
I have tried the following:
- changing the shortcut to add a space after the ↔. This still corrects to the emoji.
- selecting "change back to [custom shortcut]" – this does what it says, and corrects it all the way back to the shortcut, rather than to the arrow symbol I want
- using the inbuilt shortcut \leftrightarrow (which I want to avoid because it's so much faster to type a three-character shortcut than that) also autocorrects to the emoji outside of math fields in Word
- changing the shortcut trigger to something different. This still replaces the arrow with an emoji.
Within specified math fields, this issue doesn't occur, but I want to be able to continue to use these symbols outside of math fields, because that's the only way I can still use it within OneNote as well due to the way the Autocorrect dictionary for Office is set up.
I suspect that the issue is due to the fact that there is an inbuilt auto-replacement function for the arrow symbol to be replaced by the arrow emoji itself, much like how the smiley symbols started getting replaced by emoji a few years ago too, but I wouldn't know where to look to disable that to allow insertion of the actual arrow symbol itself. Any suggestions? Right now I'm copying and pasting but obviously this is not an ideal solution.
I am using Microsoft Word for Mac Version 16.46.
Thank you in advance, this is driving me up the wall!

If I wanted to type "Hello." then this is frustrating, because now I have to delete the space before adding the period.
As another example, say I wanted to send my friend just the word
Hello
, but instead I typed Helko
. *Is there a single button I can press* to go from Helko
to Hello
? (Without an intermediate Hello
?)
Is there any way to stop the autocorrect bar from adding a space after I choose to correct a word?

Is there a way to stop autocorrect from altering words that I spell correctly? While still keeping autocorrect on for incorrectly spelled words.
Some examples off the top of my head, but there’s plenty more stupid stuff it does:
> I will do it today > I Will do it today
(it thinks I mean a person called Will)
> Bus stop > Bud stop
(who knows!)
> St Albans > At Albans
(a city near London)
> I’ve ticked off the ones that are done > I’ve ticket off the ones that are done
(✅ vs 🎟)
> Let’s see if they say yes > Let’s see of they say yes
(Totally wrong)
I have tried turning off Autocorrect in Settings > General > Keyboards; but this disables autocorrect completely. The words still pop up above the keyboard but it no longer autocorrects just by typing.
It can be quite frustrating to have iOS randomly change your sentence to something that doesn’t make sense because it thinks the grammar might be wrong or it’s trying to second guess what you’re typing, when I’ve typed something completely valid.
Adding endless lists of words that iOS constantly wants to “correct” into the Keyboard Text Replacement option is not a solution in my opinion. The list of correctly spelled words that iOS likes to alter is vast. Also I already use the Keyboard Text Replacement feature extensively so I don’t want my own list polluting with this nonsense.
Surely there is a way to not autocorrect correctly spelled words?
If not is there any app or Shortcut that bypasses this somehow?
Is it “learning” these somehow? It seems to go through phases of changing certain words for a while until I correct it enough times.

This is a common annoyance. I send an email to myself while away from my desk for something that I can follow up on later at my desk. I put something short in the subject. Because this has happened many times, I am very careful to see that the letters typed into the subject are exactly what I want.
Very often when I get the email, I find that the subject has been autocorrected into something incomprehensible. Today I got such an email with the subject being two pipe symbols (vertical bars).
In Mail in macOS you can change the spell correction to "as I type" instead of "when I click send". This would solve my problem, but there seems to be no such setting in iOS.
Any ideas?

I've had this phone for 5 years. In that time, I have occasionally added non-words to the dictionary by mistake, for example by tapping the wrong place on the screen. I want to browse my user dictionary and arbitrarily remove entries I dislike.
As an example: at some point, I fat-fingered my phone into thinking that
do n
is a correct spelling of don't
. I think that means I need to remove "n" as a word, but many attempts with solutions like this one seem to fail in this specific scenario.
Requirements:
1. Erasing the entire user dictionary is not acceptable.
1. Disabling autocorrect/predictive text (or whatever it's called) is not acceptable.
2. I am attempting to remove, not add words. Your answer must be specifically for removing words.
3. The ideal solution will allow me to browse my user dictionary and remove one or more entries. If that is not possible, a solution that allows me to spot-remove suggestions _in situ_ is fine.
4. If you suggest a third-party app, it must be available to the public at the time of posting, and any changes it makes must apply to the entire OS -- if it only cleans up e.g. the Messages dictionary, it will be rejected. I care about a whole OS solution.
4. No solution that requires jailbreaking, voiding the warranty, or doing anything illegal/dangerous will be accepted.
5. If the fact is it's not currently possible, I will only choose an answer to that effect if it cites authoritative sources.
Everything I've been able to find on the internet on this topic did not help. Your help is very much appreciated.

Recently my MacBook started correcting "Firstname Lastname" (with my actual name) with "FIRSTNAME LASTNAME" automatically, and it is getting infuriating. It looses accents as well.
I have deleted my personal dictionary (and everything in
~/Library/Spelling
). There is no related substitution added manually in the settings, and I can't add one since it only happens on the two-words group.
This is really bothering me as signing my name on emails often ends up in having an erroneous signature sent. What can I try ?
