I'm on a MacBook Pro 2021 with M1, running on MacOS Ventura 13.3.1 I tried to use text extraction feature of Preview, since I can't select text in Spotify and I wanted to search the song I'm listening. I selected the text by toggling Tools > Text Selection then pressing Command ⌘A ![screenshot on macOS of Preview app with text extraction not selecting every Japanese text ][1] As can be seen in image, it does not select every text in image. How can extract all the text from an image in Japanese on Preview?

I am evaluating some software that needs to use fonts. I need to specify the location of the font. The font I would like it to use is Osaka. A quick Google search suggests, "Osaka is the default Japanese font included in MacOS" which sounds plausible. When I specify the location of the fonts as: /System/Library/Fonts the software reports that it can't find Osaka there. And indeed, the file is not there! Nor is it in /Library/Fonts... and neither is it in ~/Library/Fonts. And a Finder search comes up dry. But in Font Book, I can find Osaka there with the collection of "System Fonts". ![Screenshot of the Font Book window showing a font named Osaka with the contextual menu and the 'Show in Finder' greyed out ][1] You can see that the "Show in Finder" command is greyed out. So the question is, **How can I refer to this Osaka font as a file?** Can I extract it from somewhere? I'm uncomfortable downloading it as the downloaded definition could clash with the built-in font. The system is macOS Ventura 13.6 Screenshot in response to request for clarifying information: enter image description here

I'm learning some Japanese on Duolingo and I feel like I could really benefit from actually typing out answers rather than picking them from a list. From what I gather around the internet (not an expert) the best way to do this is to use romaji to write out the English-phonetic version of what I'm trying to say, and then use Live Conversion to change it to kana (not entirely sure I'm even using all the right words here). Anyway, at this point I've activated the Japanese input source for romaji and can't seem to get the Live Conversion to do anything at all: enter image description here Using the on-screen keyboard doesn't seem to change anything. **Am I missing a step?** Is this even the intended use of romaji input? I can't find a tutorial that uses Big Sur so I'm already sort of slanting my way into this, but push comes to shove it feels like something isn't working.

Thanks!

For years, I've had no problem with using on a Microsoft Sculpt Mobile Keyboard as well as a Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000. I'm using a late 2011 MacBook Pro, OSX El Capitan v.10.11.3, (Bluetooth 4.0). _problem_: Starting about 3 weeks ago, sometimes I'd press a letter key, I'd let go of the pressed key, but OSX seemed to sense I was still holding the key down. This problem happened with *both* those keyboards. This problem *never* occurred while using the attached keyboard. Once the letter started uncontrollably repeating, I switched to the MacBook's attached keyboard. After about 1 second of frantically pressing esc while also using the trackpad to place the cursor behind the repeating text, the last character typed stopped repeating. I could continue typing on the Bluetooth keyboard as if nothing had happened. The problem would not occur again for days. ideas: - This problem has coincided with my *El Capitan* upgrade. - This problem definitely happens to me **while doing Japanese character input**. I'm not 100% sure that this has also happened to me while doing English input. - *El Capitan* has added new features with regard to Japanese character input. - Of course, the keymappings for the 2 MSFT Bluetooth keyboards are far apart from the unique / weird MacBook keyboard layout. They sure don't have *fn*, *control*, *option*, *command*, ... and the *command* key is used for Japanese input. So far, it has happened when I am typing in MSFT Word, MSFT Excel, a Chrome browser, and the NetBeans IDE. But not in any Apple apps. But, it only happens infrequently. It is annoying, but not the end of the world. Maybe just buy an Apple keyboard.

I use the Cangjie input method to type Chinese characters. The one bundled with macOS is an older "version" of the input method that I don't particularly enjoy using. So far I've been getting by with using a third-party IME (Rime) but for various reasons it's not ideal either. I know that Macs support custom plaintext *.cin files but I'm looking for something different. **I'm curious where and how default Chinese and Japanese input methods are stored in general.** Maybe a filepath, and if the file is in some esoteric format possibly external software to read/edit the data? My goal is to see if I can write a script to change the character mappings to the ones I'm accustomed to. Hope this question isn't too specific. If this is better suited for another StackExchange forum just give me a heads up and I can ask it somewhere else.

I think the problem might be that I use Korean as the main language. But then is there any way to type in the correct word on Chinese and Japanese keyboards?

This means in order to use the Terminal I have to completely get out of Japanese input and switch it US input where as before Yosemite if I was in Romanji mode things just worked. How can I either (a) get it to work like it did before or (b) how do I type a backslash while in Japanese Input mode? Note: Backslash is used in the Terminal and when programming very often. I can't imagine there isn't some way to fix this otherwise Japanese programmers would be up in arms.

This is an obscure issue so I don't expect anyone to know a solution specific to my app. Rather I'm wondering if maybe there is some OS level option I can set. In any case, a Japanese keyboard does not have a backslash character. Back in the 80s the yen character occupied the same codepoint as the yen ¥ symbol so you'd just type that instead. Now of course with unicode both symbols exist and the yen key inserts ¥ by default. Apple's Japanese IME has an option to insert backslash instead of yen Apple Japanese IME settings And so does Google's Japanese IME Google Japanese IME Settings And this works everywhere except my text editing program. I've reported the issue but of course it could take them a while to fix it. As a short term solution they suggested recording a macro in the app that inserts a backslash and assigning it to the yen key which worked for editing text. Unfortunately it doesn't work for various dialogs in the app like the search and replace form where I type regular expressions and need to enter backslash often. In the meantime I wondering is there some other creative solution I can do at an OS level?
