I've tried downloading the SCIM input method program. Normally I should be able to press CTRL+Space to switch languages, however, this hot-key is not working. How to enable Korean language typing and also to be able to display it in the terminal?

On a Fedora system running GNOME under Wayland, I want to accomplish the following: - regular US ANSI layout - international keys / unicode keys on Right Alt+key (I really only need the German ones and maybe the Euro symbol) - no dead keys This is one of the layouts available on KDE and it's perfect for anyone with a US keyboard who needs european characters and wants to do coding. But there is no such layout on GNOME. Does anyone know how I can configure it?

. How can I do the same on Fedora Linux? Is there a keyboard layout file that matches the Windows one? And how do I select it - In the GUI? - In a GNOME and/or XFCE configuration file?

I'm able to run the [Fox Weiqi client](https://www.foxwq.com/soft/foreign.html) (the foreign version) perfectly with Wine. And I can type and see CJK characters just fine on apps (I use FCITX). Is Wine not able to access these characters by default? It's also happening on my Mac (Sequoia). I've just tried [this other answer](https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/591021/364698) , but it got me some errors at the end of the install:

I have a custom Debian repository deployed with no translation packages which I created using reprepro utility. Everytime apt-get update is run I see requests to *i18n* packages which I don't have and hence *404* is returned back to clients. This hasn't been a problem so far, but it seems like a misconfiguration issue that should be addressed. I managed to stop apt-get from downloading all translations by putting these lines (thanks to a tip similar to [this](https://askubuntu.com/questions/184665/how-apt-get-determines-when-to-download-translation-file) one) Acquire::Languages { "none"; } to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99languages I want to this to work only for my repo. I've stumbled upon similar problems with setting up repository-specific proxies. These problems have been solved with adding a repository URI before "none" but this doesn't seem to do the job for Languages options. I'll be very thankful to anyone who might recommend a proper solution. I'm using a Debian Jessie-based distribution.

I have a number of video files (500+) with lots of audio and subtitle streams for languages that I don't need and would thus like to remove to conserve storage space. I tinkered around with ffmpeg, but removing streams by processing one file after another turned out to *very* time consuming. Had no luck with scripting either as the video files contain different streams in different orders, which makes removal via index difficult and error prone. **There must be a solution that is both faster and also works for files containing different streams, right?** Any help would be much appreciated.

I recently had the (in hindsight stupid) ideas to enable a second locale on my computer in addition to en_CA. This second locale was zh_CN. To make sure it worked (and to "check it out"), I turned it on. It worked successfully so I turned it back to English. On the next boot, I noticed that some apps (not all) were still in Chinese. In response to this, I removed zh_CN completely from the active locales list in the KDE Settings Manager. This did **not** fix the issue. In addition, all coreutils commands were in Chinese, which made doing many things *very difficult*. I did lots of research and tried many things: export LC_ALL=C : This fixed the issue on the command line BUT UTF-8 wouldn't work Setting every locale to en_CA.UTF-8 : Did not work Regenerating only English locales: Did not work export LANGUAGE=en_CA.UTF-8 : Did work for the CLI but some things still were in Chinese localepurge everything but English : Did work for most things, but it still isn't completely removed. Despite all of my efforts, I still run into the occasional blocks of Chinese, namely in the Manjaro Package Manager: The output of my locale command is

I inherited a Ubuntu desktop from another employee and installed PostgreSQL with the help of the official guide .

Did I miss a locale setting? Do I need to manually wipe some cache stored deep inside? Why is the error message nevertheless mixed?

In GCC the debug flag is "-g". I have not been able to find why "g" was chosen for this. Does anyone know?

I use the following command line to set my system in English (installed in French) : localectl set-locale LANG=en_US.utf8 However, when I boot into graphical mode, the desktop menu, directories names etc. are still in French. The only way I can set everything in english is to use the graphical gnome menu "Applications > System tools > Settings > Region and Language". Is there a way to change system language using command line as if I used the graphical menu? EDIT : In fact, my problem was coming from the fact that I was modifying through SSH with user root the system language but then loging through graphical console (workstation VM) under a standard user who has its language already defined. localectl works well but to define default language for a specific user, I must define $LANG in my .bashrc

Could you tell me how to switch to English completely? Let's say that I install a Linux in my native language (english), and that the user I'm doing the install for only knows spanish (which all I know of is: Que?). English being obviously far easier for me (and most people) to use if I need to do some sysadmin when it's needed, so does the user's life when the GUI/Deskop Environment and GUI softwares are in spanish. The OS is Debian, which is installed from a netinstall in english so I can have the whole system in english, then install a GUI/Desktop Environment and keyboard that'll be in spanish. Now, I do know that most softwares and Desktop Environments do match their languages on the system's language, which is quite not good for what I intend to do. There's also an issue I have faced, which is when the system is installed in english, but that the keyboard is set to spanish from the Desktop Environment. That is, the keyboard is still in english despite having set XFCE's system tray flag (the plugin that allows one to change the keyboard) to spanish before shutting down, which still remains in spanish (the flag) after the reboot, and that spanish is obviously set as the preferred top language in XFCE's settings. So there must be a way so that the system stays in english (CLIs, terminals, etc), but the GUI/Desktop Environment (XFCE) and softwares remain spanish. How can I do that?

I've tried changing the man pages on debian from English to Italian but all I have tried hasn't worked yet. First of all, I installed the manpages in Italian with apt install manpages-it. I then edited the /etc/locale.gen file and uncommented it_IT.utf8, then ran locale-gen to update it. After that I tried with:

man -Lit printf
man --locale=it printf
LANG=it_IT.utf8

but none give me the manual pages in Italian. The only manual page in Italian I can get is man man, but the other manuals are just in English.

I've been using mint for about a year now, and found no problems so far, but recently i discovered that the Asian fonts are broken: It started of with a few languages such as Urdu then Arabic: Above font should look like this: Could any one help?

I'm using Kubuntu 17.10. Always after login, the notification below pops up. When I click it, it asks for my password and wants to install or remove packages – but without telling me **what packages**. I already searched the internet but couldn't find a way to identify what packages are needed. The standard apt upgrade is not affecting this popup. What program is causing this popup, and how can I see which packages it wants to install? Thanks!

I am on arch for Wsl and was having trouble opening exe applications(such as firefox) from wsl2 terminal. By running locale -a I found that I didn't have en_US.UTF-8 or any other locale and only had C. I tried to generate locale by uncommenting from etc/locale.gen and doing locale-gen but got the error warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8). I tried installing the language package with yum -y install glibc-locale-source glibc-langpack-en but since I didn't have yum in my system I had to install it first. However while I was installing yum I came across the same error warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8). I am not sure how to fix this issue. (I am not sure whether I can ask wsl related questions on this community so if this query is not permitted please let me know)
