I have a virtual reality (VR) headset: **How can I change the mode of the phone so that I can use the phone and all the normal phone apps while wearing the VR headset?** In other words I need to switch the phone display between splil-screen (oculus mode) and normal mode. In other words, like for 3D, the display should be split into 2 smaller screens (but identical). ***Related info for those who are interested:*** It seems that there are a few apps available for watching normal videos in VR mode: - Any Youtube video on your device can be switched to VR mode. - Convert normal videos to VR mode by using HMD-Video-Converter. - Play normal videos on the VR headset using: - VR Cinema for Cardboard - CINEVEO - VR Cinema - Side-By-Side Video Player - MO3D for Cardboard VR Cinema (paid)

So let's say I have got a split screen 3D video. My Google search results told me that if I just play it in VLC in my Nokia 3 and use a VR headset, I will get 3D experience. However when I play 360 degrees VR videos from Google, they are distorted and not rectangle in shape. So I am afraid that when I play rectangular side by side 3D videos, the videos will be distorted and the sides will be missing. So what should I do to convert the side by side video to the distorted VR like video? Is there any app or something? I have not tried them yet as my VR headset has not yet arrived but I want to have everything ready as soon my VR arrives. (Basically I have decided to wait for some time and if I cannot watch 3D with cardboard I might not buy it) Screenshot of how video should look like when seen by google cardboard(i.e. what I meant by distorted video) enter image description here And this is what 3D split screen loos like and I intend to convert this to above form :enter image description here

Is it possible to simulate touch without root?

Is there any way to simulate a touch (anywhere) on the screen without root? If not, is there any other way I can perform a *cardboard* 'select' action without magnet support, or opening up my *cardboard* every time? ### Background I am trying to get *cardboard* apps to work to work with a 5.1 phone which doesn't support the magnet 'button'. Most apps seem to use the button to select or advance, so without it working, it is difficult to use. I have found that a touch anywhere on the screen also works as a select, so what I'm doing at the moment is opening the back, touching the screen and then closing it up again, but obviously that quickly gets tedious. What I have tried: * Using my ipega 9017 gamepad (in Gamepad, Keyboard and iCade modes) no mode maps any key to anything which performs a select action in *cardboard* (though some modes map the B button to back, which works to exit a *cardboard* app at least). * I have tried Tincore Keymapper , but that requires root in order to simulate touch, and I cannot root my device. * Looking on here, custom keymapping for games? , Can I use USB gamepad without any setup? and Mouse to touch? looked most promising, but none of them answer this question.

Can everything be made cardboard-compatible?
I had a lot of text here but I wrote the tl;dr and realized it said everything the paragraphs did: it's obviously possible to use cardboard for whatever, with relatively minor modifications, so, is there a custom rom or something that allows exactly this? I've dug around a bit and haven't found one....

I've dug around a bit and haven't found one. Also: if you're wondering what this would possibly be useful for, just imagine playing Canabalt or actually basically any other game with VR, without praying that the game devs get on the VR hype train. Immersion is fun. Also also: I know there are already somewhat similar questions on here, but I think that the answers given previously didn't really answer the question I have here.

Navigate your Android with Cardboard
Can I view my phone with the screen split-duplicated and turned sideways (for use with Cardboard)? I have a controller for navigation. I am looking to run regular apps, see my regular homescreen, etc., but with the screen split and rotated sideways (for use with Cardboard).

Do I have to buy or need a 3D-enabled phone to use Google Cardboard?
Google cardboard comes with 3D glasses. Does that mean that we will be able to watch 3D videos using a smartphone like the Moto-G (1st edition) which is not 3D enabled?

Can I use Google Cardboard as a normal display?
Can I write a message using Google Cardboard? Or, can I use Cardboard as I use the phone's display? Or, can I get normal text displayed in Cardboard? What I am looking for is the possibility to have the equivalent of a 20" display that can fit in my pocket.
