"One-click" root apps don't work anymore. Why not?
Years ago, it was easy to root any device. You installed KingRoot, KingoRoot, or a similar app. You hit the large "Root" button, and let the app do the rest. After 5 minutes or so, a green "Root Succeeded!" prompt would pop up. You could choose to keep the root app; or you could uninstall it and install a clean root manager app like SuperSU or Superuser. * How do these apps work? * Why don't they work anymore? * If they do work, should I use them or not?

I have a Huawei AT&T Fusion 3 (Y536A1) with Android 4.4.3 which I attempted to root with KingoRoot but it ended up giving me a half-root after testing it with the Freedom app. I tried uninstalling it using the KingoRoot Superuser, but it just deletes the Superuser app and restarts but doesn't delete the root itself. I tried manually deleting the su files (with Root Explorer and ES File Explorer), but I don't have the right permissions to do so. I also tried using SuperSU but the binaries always failed to update and when I tried full unroot it still didn't unroot. I also tried to install KingRoot over KingoRoot but it said that it couldn't root (even though the device is compatible). How do I remove this half root so I can fully root?

After rooting with Kingo Root, do I need to leave Kingo Link on the device?
I successfully rooted an Azpen 746G using Kingo Root on a PC. It placed an app on the tablet called Kingo Link. Once the rooting process is complete, can I delete this app off the tablet? Because the word "link" is so common, googling for this was not helpful

The internal hard drive has 8 GB and is almost full to the point where it can't update apps. I've downloaded KingoRoot through the mobile browser as an **APK file** and enabled USB debugging. After a few minutes, it reports that the rooting process has failed and reports ERROR CODE: 0x15F6D5. I searched through forums and have found nothing on this error code. What is it and how do I avoid it?

The internal hard drive has 8 GB and is almost full to the point where it can't update apps. I've downloaded KingoRoot through the mobile browser as an **APK file** and enabled USB debugging. Unfortunately, 1 to 2 hours after starting the rooting process, the completion percentage is stuck at 90. When completion is at 90 percent, the rooting process is executed, however it seems frozen. The average duration of the rooting process is usually between 5 to 10 minutes. I've searched through the Internet and found that switching it off via the power button maybe lead to an unstable root. Is there any solution to this issue? **EDIT**: The problem is gone after I have rebooted the phone and but I get error code 0x15F6D5 which I have asked a [separate question](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/176922/what-is-kingoroot-error-code-0x15f6d5) on.

My android device is 4.4.2. I rooted my device with Kingo Root with PC. Without any error message, it was successful. However, after rooting Screen Lock is not working properly. Sometimes screen lock works and sometimes it doesn’t work. I removed root access and reset my device. Then Screen Lock is working fine. Again after rooting, Screen Lock is not working fine. I have been using Kingo Root with PC for long time. And depending upon scenario, I removed root access, reset device and re-root device. I never had any issue with it. Now I am facing Screen Lock issue. Please let me know, how to fix it? Regards InTech

I rooted my P8-Lite ALE-L21 (Android 5.0.1) with supersu.zip through TWRP recovery. After that I installed KingoRoot and KingoRoot replaced *su* binary with some other *su* binary which is obsolete for my Android version and not working. So I modified supersu.zip and placed *su* binary into another directory in /data/local. Now my working *su* binary is in /data/local and it works fine with adb, but does not work with SuperSU and other applications which use root privilege. To solve that issue, I tried to remove these old *su* binaries:/system/bin/su and /system/xbin/su, with the following commands unsuccessfully:
$ adb shell
shell@hwALE-H:/ $ /data/local/su
root@hwALE-H:/ # mount -o remount,rw /system
root@hwALE-H:/ # rm /system/xbin/su
rm: /system/xbin/su: Operation not permitted
1|root@hwALE-H:/ # rm -rf /system/xbin/su
rm: /system/xbin/su: Operation not permitted
* What is this error: *Operation not permitted*? * How can I remove those su files?

I rooted my HP 10 (4.4.2) with Kingoroot, as I was unable to find anything else capable of doing so. It actually worked fairly well, except that if the tablet gets turned off and turned back on again, it acts like a factoy reset prompting me to enter user info, language, etc. I unrooted with Kingo, rerooted, unrooted with SuperSu, rerooted, unrooted with an App off the Play Store, tried factory resetting through the recovery, wiped the cache, and even drained the battery hoping that may kick something out. I also downloaded Busybox and ran it and manually moved the busybox file with rootexplorer. I am assuming that Kingoroot did something to it initially, but rooted or unrooted, the tablet factory reset starts every time. Is there something like a MBR or something that needs to be rewritten or is there a /system file that needs to be recovered? Hopefully that is enough information to help someone get started to figure out what I did. Thanks in advance.
