Why doesn't Finder's Photos integration not able to show the latest pictures I took on my iPhone?
Isn't the whole idea of this that I can see what is in my Photos library?
And, I have verified that the intended picture is actually showing up in Photos app, just not in the file picker in the Finder integration.

I ask because I'm trying to limit my iCloud storage space usage. I would like to keep local backups via Finder of the iOS devices. Then I would like to transfer photos to iOS devices as required.
I'm looking to see if such a process is available.

I would like to do this to facilitate the following process:
1. Save new images on iOS devices to iCloud
2. Keep Folders with Shared Albums on devices, called "C" and "D"
3. When new image on iOS device is saved, it is added to separate album "A"
4. Allow to periodically copy all photos from album "A" to MacOS device for backup, then delete all photos from album "A". This should not impact albums "C" and "D".
5. The goal is to save space in iCloud by periodically moving album "A" to MacOS for archival outside of iPhoto.

For years I have made a new Shared Library every year with the year in the title, to share with my other half. This has always worked, and she has a shared library of photos I have sent her for each of the last 7-8 years or so. But I recently upgraded my OS (always a scary proposition with Apple) and I can no longer share photos from the camera roll, to a shared album! The option simply doesn't appear. I can email them, send them via Messages, AirDrop, Dropbox, Google Drive, and a ton of other things. But there is no option anywhere that I can see, to add the selected photos to a shared album.
Album Sharing is enabled, iCloud is working, etc.
How can I add a photo to a shared album in iOS 14.5.1?

I have 45 GB free on internal SSD. And iCloud has at most 5 GB of storage. What is happening?

can one transfer the ownership of a photostream to another user/subscriber? I need to get rid of the contents of a shared photo stream on my device but I am its owner. The subscribers will still need it. I would like to keep the comments, photos and the public page alive but simply give the ownership over to someone else. A simple thing but I cannot seem to figure out how to do that on iOS.
If I erase everything on my iPad Mini in order to sell it will the Shared Photostream also get destroyed? I'm trying to avoid that and hand it over to someone else. Also, should I use the same Apple ID on another device, if I would not want that stream to reappear.

**iPhone 6 iOS 10.2:**
* Used iMazing: Selected iPhone Between left sidebar options: Pick “Camera” instead of “Photos” - kinda counterintuitive. Select All / CTRL A Delete from right Menu / or Trash icon buttton.
* Deleting 7000+ photos took a while. To test if it’s working I closed iMazing and when I got back in as before, was left with 2000 or so.
* Repeated and mostly gone. For some reason 2/300 were left and would not delete no matter what I tried via iMazing.
* So deleted it using the Photos App - Selecting from Bottom right to Top left (auto scrolls) and selects all.
* Delete & then Remove recently deleted.
Now I thought this was done; no pics or videos or anything showing inside photos/ camera roll.

But when I look via
**General > iPhone Storage** and select the app:
**Photos & Camera - 318 MB >**
**Synced from iTunes Library 70 MB**
**Shared Photo Stream 248.1 MB**
I don’t remember using any of these above.
How can this be cleared out?

Here's the tick-tock of how this happened:
- Daughter A had an old iPad that she rarely used, so she offered to give it to Daughter B.
- Daughter A signed out of her iCloud account on the iPad, and (when prompted) indicated that she wanted to remove all of her personal info (Contacts, Calendar, etc.) from the iPad. *However*, apparently doing this does *not* remove photos that are locally stored on the iPad... something that she did not realize and did not check before handing the iPad over to its new owner.
- Daughter B signed into her iCloud account on the iPad. Later that day she opened the Photos app and saw not only her own photos, but also all of Daughter A's photos. Whoops!
- Daughter B then looked on her phone and saw that there, too, all of Daughter A's photos were mixed in with her own.
Is there any way to disentangle these two photo libraries? Can I revert Daughter B's library back to the state it was in 24 or 48 hours ago? (Searching online for "revert Photos library" brings up dozens of sites about restoring deleted photos, which is not the problem I'm having.)

**tl;dr** _Even though Camera Upload is enabled in OneDrive app in my iPhone SE 2020, it seems to be not working at all. Neither new nor existing photos are never uploaded to OneDrive. I also cannot find any way to select a destination folder to which photos will be uploaded._
----
### The Problem
On my iPhone SE 2020 in _OneDrive_ app I cannot:
- Enable _Camera Upload_ functionality (actually: I can enable it, but it isn't working)
- Select a destination folder in OneDrive, to which photos will be uploaded
### Configuration
I went to _OneDrive_ → _[user photo]_ → _Settings_ → _Camera Uploaded_ and set:
* _[my private account]_: **on**
* _Upload Using Mobile Data_: **on**
* _Include Videos_: **on**
* _Organise new uploads_: **Months**
* _Reupload From Original Formats_ → _Reupload Still Photos as Live Photos_: **off**
No more options found in this section of _Settings_ in _OneDrive_ app. No way to tell _OneDrive_, which folder I want it to upload my photos to.
### Results
* Neither newly captured nor existing photos are ever uploaded.
* Phone has an uninterrupted access to the Internet using two various sources (home Wi-Fi and mobile GPRS data).
* Any other Internet-depended application is accessing the web in the same time without any problems.
### Hardware Gear
* Model: **iPhone SE**
* System: **iOS 16.3.1**
The functionality **is not working**.
What am I missing? What else must I check or try?
**EDIT**: _The described functionality doesn't work in OneDrive app running on Apple products only (if that matters). It works without any problems in OneDrive app running on a variety of Android-powered devices._

In an attempt to transfer the photos off my iPhone to the Mac Photos app, I selected the "Import New Items" button and something seemed to process.
No photos got imported and I noticed a little cloud icon with an exclamation mark in it next to the iPhone in the sidebar. Once I selected that icon a dialog box came up, saying
> **Optimised Storage is Turned On**
>
> “iPhone (2)” is using iCloud Photos with optimised storage. Some photos and videos may not be available for import.
There was a "Learn More" button linking to this Apple Support page.
I switched on iCloud Photos in the Photos App on macOS and immediately got this error message saying
>**4 referenced files in your library will not upload to iCloud Photos.**
>
> Select referenced files in your library and choose “Consolidate” from the File menu to copy the original files into the library.
I read somewhere that you have to un-tick the option that says "Optimise Mac Storage"
Apparently, once you have done this, Photos should start uploading all of your photos and videos to iCloud. If there are any referenced files that are preventing the upload, you should see an error message with a list of the affected files. Supposedly, you can then use the "Consolidate" feature in the File menu to copy the original files into your Photos library so that they can be uploaded to iCloud.
However, in my case, once I select the "Ok" button in the screenshot above, I get a dialog box asking me to upgrade to a 2 TB iCloud+ storage. I don't want to shell out $14.99 just to find out which ones are the referenced photos.
I also read this Ask Different answer on a similar problem , but it didn't help me.
How do I know which ones these 4 referenced files are?

I often want to included a recent photo in an email, file upload, or other similar context.
I want to select this image via the normal macOS file picker.
I do **not** want to go through the hassle, each time, of exporting the photo from my Mac Photos library or AirDropping it from my iOS device.
I'm fine finding and exporting *older* photos via Photos. But I want the most recent photos easily available in this directory so that I can quickly select them with the macOS file picker.
---
Is there any way I can "mirror" my latest iCloud Photos into a much-simplified Finder directory?
Requirements:
- I want to save this file location in my Finder sidebar, just like I do for my "Downloads" folder, "Screenshots" folder, etc.
~/Pictures/Recent/
or similar.
- The single directory should contain all of my latest photos from the last day or week or so. Or just the latest 100 images. No subdirectories for each image.
- The images should be in common image formats such as .jpg
, not .HEIC
.
- I don't want the images to be iCloud "masters", or pick up edits, or delete from iCloud, or anything like that. Just a dumb copy of photos from iCloud.
---
I expect that this will need to be done via a script or regular automated process.
Do any tools exist that provide this functionality?
How can I create such a regularly-updated directory of my recent photos?

My Mac is low on harddrive space—only 12gb out of 500gb left. When will I see the additional hard drive space, supposedly freed by the Photos app purging the originals? Is there a nightly process that runs? Is it when I restart?

The windows photo import tool fails, because the photo's arn't really on the device, and apple lies to windows saying that they are available for import, so it fails halfway.
If I install iCloud for windows, will it sync photos to the laptop via photostream? or will it continue to delete photos after 1000 photos?
If photostream isn't enabled, will it start randomly deleting photos older then 1000 days that my parents take, without them understanding what is happening? or will it give some sort of warning / clean up prompt?
Or is this likely something they are already familiar with as (mildly tech illiterate) users.

I'm giving up. For over a year
Photos
on macOS
says "_Preparing to import from ..._" in an infinite loop.
None of the [try-everything suggestions](https://appletoolbox.com/photos-preparing-to-import-from-iphone/) actually works. At most, putting the phone in Airplane mode succeeds one time in 3-4, and even then it works very briefly. Syncing with Image Capture
rather than Photos
works, but then Photos
takes over and restarts the loop. I upgraded iOS and macOS to no avail.
I'd now like to use another mechanism. Manually using AirDrop
for a few dozen photos/videos at a time is too tedious. It's also error-prone. I found (the hard way, of course) that dragging the photos from the Downloads
folder to Photos
adds the photos but the files must remain in Downloads
. When you add a photo to Photos
, Photos
clearly does a hard link and not a soft link (as in ln -s
).
I know that Photos
is built into macOS
, at least the recent releases, and that it's not possible to remove it. I'm not even sure where the Photos.app
folder is. It's not under /Applications
.
Is there an option to not use Photos on macOS to maintain/sync iOS photos? In other words, when I connect an iPhone to macOS using Thuderbolt, I'd like the Photos
app to **not** launch. (Finding an app that syncs will be step #2; for now I'm asking about this step #1).
In case it's relevant, I've been upgrading macOS in-place since Tiger
. That by itself is likely a bad idea, but given how opaque iTunes
, iPhotos
(previously), and now Photos
are in maintaining their databases, it's not too clear how I can copy music + photos/videos following a clean install.

The "My photo stream" feature doesn't seem to be working for me as of recently.
I would like to be able to take pictures with my iPhone (iPhone SE, software version 15.1) and see and use the pictures in in the Photos application in my mac (OS Monterrey). I don't want to use any iCloud features to transfer/store my pictures.
**Things I tried/verified**:
- I made sure both devices use the same Apple ID
- I made sure that in my phone I have "my photo stream" enabled and the phone is connected to wifi (I read it won't upload pictures to the stream using cellular data)
- I made sure that in my laptop Photos > Preferences also has "my photo stream enable".
(In my mac's System Preferences > Apple ID I see the same as in my phone, and I see "my photo stream" enabled everywhere)
**Background (or other potentially related stuff)**
Recently (maybe a month ago or so) I updated the OS (to Monterrey) in my mac. As I did it I was forced to change my apple ID password (apparently my Apple ID password and my iCloud password no longer could be the same). After that I had a problem when logging in in my mac and I was asked for both passwords when logging.
I researched this issue and fixed it (by dealing with keychains and forcing the computer to re-encrypt data, to remove some stored info about my Apple ID/old password user). Nothing fancy, but that can be related to the issue.
I'm mentioning this because it's the only recent change to the computer and I think I don't have any picture in Photos app from after this OS upgrade.
I took an old phone (where I have the My Stream Photos enabled too) and took a picture with it. I can see that picture in my new phone and the old phone downloaded pictures that were in the stream, taken with the new phone. **It's clear from this that it's the Photos application in my mac the one that is not connecting well to the stream**, but I don't understand why.
After searching on the Internet and this stack and seeing the regular advice about having the options enabled, making sure you have the right IDs in all devices, etc. I don't know what else to do to troubleshoot and fix this problem.
Why is Photos in my laptop not syncing with my stream like my other devices?
**Other things I tried**
- Holding CMD + alt and starting Photos to *repair*
- Deleting *CloudSync.noindex*
- I could not check the iCloud option for photos, because it would force me to buy additional storage for iCloud. I was hoping to force a re-sync with this, but I can't select the iCloud option.
- I disabled the "live" feature for my pictures, since I read that "You won’t be able to see Photo Stream Photos from iPhone or iPad on your Mac ", but it didn't work for me.

If not, is it possible to get my existing sync'd photos included in iCloud backups?

I'm trying to get photos from my iPhone to my computer, I've tried 3 ways so far:
- Using the 'import photos' feature in Windows 11, this just produces a whole bunch of duplicates with no easy way to discern which is which, meaning I'd need to manually go through photos of photos/videos and delete them.
- Dragging the photos directly from the phone using explorer, this leaves me with a whole load of AAE files and the originals, meaning any edits, crops, video trims etc are not applied.
- Using the Photos app of my wife's Macbook - this is as close as I've gotten, the photos are all there and all seem to have copied across with the edits, but I have no way of then getting them to my PC, they're locked away in a 'Photos Library' and if I right click in finder to try to browse it, nothing works. If I open it in finder, it just opens up in the Photos app again.
Any suggestions please? I've spent so many hours trying to do this now and I'm at a loss. Thank you :)

I am curious about the way Apple Photos has sorted one particular photo in my library and would like to ask here if anyone can give me any clues.
I have a photo of myself taken in the early 80s. It's actually a photo of the original photo. A relative took a snapshot of the original photo using the camera on her phone (not iPhone) and sent to me via WhatsApp or FB Messenger (I'm not really sure which). Upon saving the image on my iphone, it got automatically uploaded to iCloud, where I have thousands of other recent photos.
Recently, I noticed that Apple Photos has set the date of this particular photo to April 5th 1983 at 01:44 PM. I asked the person who most probably took the picture almost 40 years ago and she confirmed the year and month could very well be correct. Apart from that, the picture was taken at a beach during daytime, so 01:44 PM also makes sense.
More Information
----------------
- As far as I can see, there are no visible timestamps printed on the photo.
- Photos recognises a face in the picture, but does cannot link my 2-year old face to me.
- I don't have any other pictures from this time in my library
- I don't remember ever inputing any info about the date this photo was taken. I myself would not have known either.
Question:
Is this just a very lucky guess from Apple or are there other technologies at play here? I appreciate any response.
