I have an iPhone XS max (iOS 14.6) and I'm trying to import photos taken during a FaceTime call to my PC running windows 10.
Using the photos app on windows 10, I can import photos and videos fine, and Live Photos taken with the camera will give me a jpeg and mp4. the importing process seems to go through the selected photos fine until it reaches a FaceTime photo, where it will import the still and fail when trying to import the mp4. the import process then terminates, leaving me with whatever photos imported up until that point.
I've tried navigating the phone's storage in file explorer (This PC\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM) and manually copying the .mp4, but the copied file ends up 0kb in size despite showing a file size on the original copy.
I don't want to use a cloud service as my upload speed is terrible and it would take much too long.
I can't find any results on Google even remotely similar to my issue, and I couldn't get much help asking on the Apple forums unfortunately.

How can I troubleshoot or fix when macOS Photos app import from a connected iPhone gets stuck on "Preparing to import from..."?
**Devices:**
- iMac Retina 5K 27-inch 2017, macOS Big Sur 11.2.3
- iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14.4.1
**Setup:**
iPhone is connected to the iMac with a USB-Lightning Cable
**Problem:**
Photos app on MacOS import from connected iPhone appears to be stuck on "Preparing to import from" and never makes progress.
**Steps to reproduce:**
1. Launch Photos
2. Unlock iPhone
3. Connect iPhone to iMac with cable
4. Click the name of the connected iPhone under "Devices" section of Photos
5. Photos shows a message: *Preparing to import from "Device_Name"* where Device_Name is the name of the iPhone
6. Wait... forever...
**Additional Information:**
- Imports previously used to work between these devices.
- The Photos Library has been repaired multiple times by opening Photos while holding Option-Command.
- The iPhone successfully synchronizes and backs up via the Finder when connected.
- Swapping out cables does not change the behavior.
- Restarting the iMac, iPhone, or macOS Photos app does not solve the problem.
- iPhone has over 40,000 items (photos, live photos, videos, etc.) and a few hundred are new items since the last import while the others are already imported.
**Relevant thread:**
- Photos 'preparing to import from iPhone' message....

I got a new iPhone. The **transfer files to new iPhone** feature was not working - *I couldn't move the photos and files* from my old iPhone to the new one.
I had the brilliant idea to move all the photos from my old iPhone to a Macbook.
After that, I synced the photos from the Macbook to the new phone.
I reseted and sold the old iPhone and the Macbook.
Now, on my new iPhone, **I can't delete any photos I imported from that Macbook**. They are shown in Recents and also in From My Mac.
Is there a way to be able to delete any of those imported photos on my new phone?
iCloud is disabled and there is no photo uploaded to iCloud.
*My new phone is an iPhone 16 pro max with iOS 18.1*

I need a lot of profiles, but need to use them only once in a while.
Exporting them as a file/folder with all the metadata, cookies, history and so on could allow me to delete most of my profiles.

Is there any way for me to "teach" Photos that the photos I've just imported should be considered as one burst, instead of being 6+ totally independent photos?
I'm basically looking for the opposite of ["Can I force [Photos] to treat 'burst' photos as separate items?"](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/357266/) .

I set the individual thumbnails, and it looks good, and then I add the show artwork, and it overrides the episode artwork. So I try it the other way around: add the show artwork, then the episode artwork. When I do *that*, the show artwork is replaced by episode 1's thumbnail. How do I have both custom show art and custom episode thumbnails?

For an iMac that had a crashed fusion drive due to damages in fusion data structures, **I had to perform a data recovery on Windows**.
From the data recovery software, **the user profile **(let's call it "john_smith")** was copied to external drive**, formatted in ExFAT.
The iMac was reinstalled with same user name ("john_smith").
**I'm looking for the best way to easily import everything**: documents, pictures, music, emails (if any), a.s.o.
I am very frustated by what the Finder (and other apps) let me do.
**Images**
On the external drive the "Images" folder has two libraries, one for Photos, and an older one for iPhoto. When importing from the Photo App, I'm not sure the ones from iPhoto library are also imported. And some files, like PDF documents (wrongly stored there) cannot be imported.
If double-clicking the older "iPhoto" library, there is an error message tells that it is impossible to open the migrated phototheque.
**Music**
Same nightmare with Music: How do I import the "iTunes" folder? I cannot see an import option in iTunes.
There are also "GarageBand" and "Audio Music Apps" folders.
**Other files and settings**
I am also not sure if a mail box was configured on the iMac.
Is there an easy way to restore everything from the profile, or at leat everyhing important?
I could find no option for that in the migration assistant.
Should I start the iMac in recovery mode and overwrite the user folder though terminal commands like
dd
or mv
?

I have a batch of AIFF files I am trying to transcode to mp3 and tag using [XLD](https://tmkk.undo.jp/xld/index_e.html) (X Lossless Decoder). I have all the tag metadata in a text file like so:
01 AUDIO "Package" "Peter Howard"
02 AUDIO "Nirvana" "Martin Figura"
03 AUDIO "Fresh Meat" "Andrea Porter"
04 AUDIO "The Shout" "André Mangeot"
…
Where that format of each line is:
[track number] AUDIO "[track name]" "[Artist]"
I'm trying to use the "File > Import Tags From a Text" feature in the following way:
1. File > Open folder as disc (I have all the .aiff
s in a folder).
2. File > Import Tags From a Text.
3. Paste in the block of data from above into the main pane.
4. Use the following "Format": %n AUDIO "%t" "%a"
(i.e. the same as above)
5. Match with: Track Number. Overwrite existing tags = yes.
6. Select all tracks in the main window.
7. Click Apply.
Nothing happens at this point, but I don't know if I've got the format string wrong, or if I'm using the whole feature incorrectly. There isn't any documentation on the website, and I've tried reading the source code but can't make head or tale of it. There are the same number of lines in the text block as there are tracks. I've tried with 1- and 2-digit track numbers. I've tried with and without a trailing newline.
Does anyone have any experience with this application and this feature?

We use a GSuite app to set peoples' Gmail signatures, which works great for those sending email from Gmail.com, but the signature is not 'imported' by Apple Mail. This means people have to manually copy their Gmail signature into the Apple Mail signature preferences. Is there any way to remedy this?
I understand that this may not be a shortcoming of Apple Mail, but a shortcoming of Gmail.

I'd like to have the best possible sound quality and avoid any sort of lossy compression.
Which setting, if any, allows me to do that?
I noticed the "Apple Lossless" option, but it sounds a little proprietary. I'm suspicious. So I guess my goal is the above, but using a cross-platform standard file format if possible.

macOS 11.6, Contacts.app 13.0
I have a .vcf file of Contact cards from another computer. I wish to work with them on my computer without merging them with the cards already in my computer's Contacts. Each Contacts file is ~300 entries, and there is some overlap. The job I want to do involves only the already-exported cards in the .vcf file, and not the cards on my computer. Getting my computer's Contacts.App to work with a different data file, or importing the new data into a separate Contacts.app group, or importing the new data in a manner that would subsequently allow me to remove the new data from my Contacts.app, would all be suitable approaches.
Apple's help pages don't address the issues of segregation or multiple data sources. Searching the net doesn't find a solution either.
How might I import these cards, do the work, and then be able to remove them? I could import the other computer's cards then work with them in my computer's "Last Import" smart group, but importation seems to require merging the incoming cards with the existing cards. I don't want to do that, because I don't see how I might remove the newly-added cards (when I'm done with the job) other than card-by-card manually.

I'm a recent migrant from Linux to OSX, and the transition so far has been quite smooth, until this particular issue.
On a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip, running Ventura 13.1, and with both Python 3.9 and 3.10, my code just freezes during import.
When I run
python -vv my_code.py
, it consistently hangs on:
import 'rasterio._show_versions' #
# trying .../.venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/rasterio/_version.cpython-39-darwin.so
At this point the terminal is no longer responsive, and I have to kill -9 PID
to terminate the process.
Any ideas on what could this be? I've installed both Python versions with brew install python@3.X
. The virtual environments are created with python3.X -m virtualenv .venv --python=python3.X
(the Python argument is redundant but I wanted to ensure it uses the correct Python version).
The dependencies (proj, gdal, etc) are installed with brew
as well and are available and function correctly.
To complicate things further, in the same environment, if I run python -c "import rasterio"
it works just fine.

That's fine; my 17-year-old sister has thousands of photos and does not need these five selfies! So I want to remove them from my iPhone—but I can only do that *on* my iPhone, and I don't know how to locate them there.
I can't double-click on yet-to-be-imported photos to get a full view with details about the image. If I had the date for the photo, I could navigate to that timeframe on my iPhone and remove it there, but I can't figure out how to access that info from my Mac before the photo has been imported!
