After uploading a video from iPhone Photos to OneDrive I noticed the vibrancy of the video had substantially changed (e.g. greens were substantially less green, blues less blue).
While I would expect a change when viewed on a different device eg PC via Windows, I would not expect a change when viewing the same content on the same iPhone device via the OneDrive app.
Why is this happening?
Background:
For those who might wonder why I'm doing this, it is because the content is rarely accessed and I want to free up some iCloud space.
OK, I think I've got a major part of the explanation.
My original upload was done without setting Options>"All Photos Data" before sharing.
I have checked with [MediaInfo](https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download) .
When exported with "All Photos Data" set, it seems to have been converted to:
- AVC instead of using HVC1 codec
- Has dropped Dolby Vision
- Has dropped from 10bits to 8bits bit depth
It looks much closer to the original now, however, it still looks a bit lower brightness when opened in OneDrive.
On my Windows machine, it looks much closer to the original also, but I realise I have sacrificed efficiency and some bit depth of the original.

After deleting OneDrive app, cannot move files in OneDrive folder
I'm running macOS 11.7.10 (BigSur), which is no longer compatible with the latest Microsoft OneDrive app. I successfully deleted the app, but now I'm unable to transfer some of my files that resided in the OneDrive folder. The offending files return an error message: [
chmod
, so all users have full permissions.
Still, no luck.
Other Q&A on this forum suggest solutions that would *require* me to use the OneDrive app, but this is not an option for me given that I can no longer run the app on my older operating system.

I haven't done a backup of my iPhone photos to OneDrive in 10 months, and now I realize that my iPhone 13 photos, which have been optimized by iCloud, can't be uploaded to OneDrive. In order to do it OneDrive requires the high res version of the photos, so I have to find a way to download the high res version of my photos to my iPhone, but I would like to choose only the 2024 photos or I will not have enough space on my iPhone if I de-select the optimize button on the iPhone photos. I could select and view one photo by one, but it will take ages.
Any idea on how to solve this problem?

I have recently migrated from a MacBook Pro (Intel) to a Mac Mini M2 running macOS Sonoma 14.5.
When I launch MS Word and select a file from the **Recent** section of the "Home" screen, the file opens as "Read Only". If I double-click the file from its location in my OneDrive folder, it opens will full access. If the file is located in my Desktop folder, I have full access in both situations (**Recent** section and double-clicking).
I also tried this with MS Excel and the same things happen. I checked **Privacy & Security** > **Files and Folders** for Word, Excel, and OneDrive and each has proper permissions.
I logged out of OneDrive and MS Word and then logged back in with the same behavior.
Prior to migration, I did not have this problem. Of course, there have been some updates to the OneDrive app since then.
What is causing this and how can I remedy it?

I used to work at a company that used OneDrive. I neglected to unlink the OneDrive account. Now I can't delete the folder.
I started out with:
ls -lae
...
drwx------@ 2 jonathan staff 64 May 9 17:32 OneDrive-COMPANYNAME
0: group:everyone deny writeextattr
1: group:everyone deny delete
I booted in startup options and ran this:
csrutil disable --with basesystem --with dtrace --with kext
Next I tried various combinations of
,
,
and ended up with this:
ls -lae
drwxrwxrwx@ 2 jonathan staff 64 May 9 17:32 OneDrive-COMPANYNAME
I still can't delete the folder, unfortunately. I'm not sure if it still has some data in it, so maybe that could be the reason. I don't really care about the data. I just want the folder gone.
Here is what I get:
rm -rf OneDrive-COMPANYNAME/
rm: OneDrive-COMPANYNAME/: Permission denied
Here is the output for xattr:
xattr -l OneDrive-COMPANYNAME
com.apple.file-provider-domain-id: com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac.FileProvider/OneDrive - COMPANYNAME
Any help is appreciated!

I'd like a reliable way to search for "offline files" in the terminal. It's a vast directory hierarchy, much too large to search in Finder, and the icons that are supposed to indicate file status in the Finder simply do not appear beside many files.

I edited an Excel document by tapping on it in OneDrive on iPad, closed it, and opened it. The opened version was not the version I closed. Unreliable saving of office documents also happens in other apps like Word. It is a nightmare to work like this on iPad and highly frustrating and embarrassing: I sent an Excel file (by attaching it to an email) to a colleague, which did not reflect my recent changes and was therefore completely wrong.
It was suggested to not send Office documents by attaching them to an email but rather send a link. While this may work in most situations, there are times when I actually want to send a copy to a colleague and not a link. The problem also impacted me when duplicating a file, e.g., for a backup, i.e., an old version was duplicated.
I also experienced that a different (older) version was shown after opening an office document in the Word or Excel apps on iPad after closing it.
I have experienced these problems for a long time and I have filed several bug reports both to Apple and Microsoft. Although saving files reliably is very important, it has not been properly addressed.
It seems that I am not the only person who saw this or related problems:
- https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/682215/microsoft-office-apps-for-ios-does-not-correctly-s
Has anyone else experienced such problems? What can I do about this?
**Here is an example** for the Excel file „Vergütungen 2022-2023“, which I opened from the Files app and then modified it in the Excel app. When I open the Excel document file from Safari or the OneDrive app, I get an old version. When I open the Excel document from the Files app, I get the version I just modified (although the date in the Files app is also yesterday).
**Image 1: In the Excel app on iPad, it is confirmed that the file has been saved just now.**

**Image 3: The date in OneDrive in Safari is also from yesterday, but it differs from the date in the Files app.**

**Update March 2, 2024: The problem has still not been solved under iPadOS 17.3.1.**

I want to disable some apps from running during sleep (due to unwanted/unnecessary battery consumption). Particularly; I want to disable **Microsoft OneDrive** from running during sleep on a **M2 MacBook Air (Ventura 13.5.1).**
I suppose enabling Low Power Mode would stop it from running, as well as any other background app. A way to automatically enable it just before sleep (and to disable right after wake-up) could be a sub-par but OK fix.
(I get around 2% drop in 12 hrs of sleep, which is sad especially given that I know for sure that there hasn't been any updates, and I could definitely just wait 30 extra seconds after waking my Mac up to receive the updates if there were any; if the updates couldn't be made in the time that I navigate the directory tree to the documents I'm after, that is.)
Is there a direct way to keep Power Nap enabled and influence the power loss of 2% during sleep?

I often need to copy files, (later edit 1:) grouped as folders, between an app and OneDrive.
I would wish to write the data straight to OneDrive so I can access it remotely, but that's not possible because the os doesn't allow apps to access data outside the app.
Copying the files (later edit 1:) of a folder, from the app to OneDrive is an acceptable workaround for me.
I have to use the os integrated Files app, as this is the only app Apple allows to access files of multiple apps, i.e. an app and OneDrive.
Unfortunately, probably because Apple hates everything normal, the Files app is unable to copy and paste files by simply copying and pasting files. Instead, the Files app changes each and every file name by adding the date and time before the extension. So
.zip
becomes 2024-01-01 12_03_04.zip
after being copied to OneDrive.
[Apple claims](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253955976?answerId=257426289022&sortBy=best#257426289022) that this is typical behaviour because most users expect it, as most apps change file names when copying by adding a timestamp. Yet the Files app doesn't add any timestamp when copying to iCloud. I suppose that's how Apple designed iCloud to be different, by not changing file names on copy, hence why iCloud is better. Be that as it may, I have to use OneDrive and there seems to be no hope for this to be fixed from Apple side, so the question is what are the _different_ options that can be used to simply copy a file from an ipad or an iphone to OneDrive?
Later edit1: My initial question refers to "files", and @Aivar Paalberg answer offers a great workaround for an individual file. I edited my question to clarify that I'm refering to files grouped in a folder. So I am interested in copying folders, from an app, to OneDrive, with all the files in them, and not an individual file, or multiple files one by one.
Later edit2:
Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. In Files app, Go to My iPad
2. Create a new folder, it will be initially named folder
, you can leave it like that.
3. Go inside that folder to create a file.
4. One way to create a file is to long press anywhere in the empty space and select Documents
5. Take any picture by pressing the white button on the right. Touch the Scan
button on the bottom right. Touch the
button on the bottom right. The Document.pdf
file is created.
6. Go one folder up and long press on folder
and click on copy
7. From the left-hand menu in the Files app, go to OneDrive -> Files
8. Long press anywhere and click on
9. Go inside the copied folder
and check the file inside.
Expected behaviour:
It is expected that the file is named Document.pdf
Actual behaviour:
The file is named Document 2024-01-07 15_42_54.pdf
I will update the question after I test with the latest version of OneDrive as suggested by @nohillside in the comments.
Later edit3:
I can confirm that unfortunately the issue is still present on the current latest version of OneDrive 15.3.2. Immediately after copying, the file appears with the same name, but seconds later the file is renamed with the added timestamp.
My current workaround is to zip compress the folder, copy that one to OneDrive, and then uncompress there. The zip file will get a timestamp, but at least all the file names inside are preserved. Not great, but a single rename beats multiple renames.

On one occasion, my whole OneDrive folder had '(Archive)' added to the end of its name.
I can reinstall the app but then it is gone again after I've restarted my Mac.
I've never known anything quite like it.
I also posted on the MS forum but couldn't get an answer, I also found a Reddit post of someone who had a similar issue of MS applications disappearing on Mac

Why OneDrive for Mac is "Waiting to Upload" indefinitely on some new files instead of uploading them?

With my MacBook I make notes in plain MarkDown text files and keep them in OneDrive folder expecting them to be always synched with the cloud.
Yesterday, when I was reviewing my notes on another device, I found out that not all of the notes I made recently are present in OneDrive cloud.
If I switch Finder to "as List" view on my MacBook, on some files I can see a cloud icon made with dotted lines, and if I hover the muse on the cloud icon, it says: "Waiting to Upload".
This dotted-lines cloud icon exists exactly for those files which for some reasons did not reach the OneDrive cloud yet.
I am very surprised by this behavior, because I expect each file I put into OneDrive folder to be automatically synchronized with the cloud. What is it "waiting" for?
At the same time, if I click on OneDrive icon in menu bar, there is some kind of log about recent files, and I clearly can see that one of the files which has dotted-lines cloud icon is reported as "__Uploaded to__ %DESTINATION_FOLDER_NAME%" (as if it was really uploaded on the day when the file was created)
By experiment I've learned, that if I double-click the file with the dotted-lines cloud to open it, it immediately synchronizes with the cloud, and in the menu bar log I can see "Uploaded to" for this file again (this time "uploaded-for-real", after I double-clicked on it to open it).
Any explanation, why OneDrive for Mac does not behave as I expect and is "Waiting for Upload" indefinitely instead of automatically uploading a new file instantly? Is it in conflict with Apple's similar iCloud feature? I do not think so, because iCloud should be turned off, I never used it.
Also, my setup is quite simple: the system is quite fresh and OneDrive (currently v23.132.0625) was installed with App Store.
The worst thing here is that I recently did a hard-reset of my MacBook without knowing that OneDrive's "Waiting for Upload" behavior and lost my data.

\/:*?"|
) and I want to automatically rename them on my Mac so they can save up to the cloud.
- OneDrive for macOS does not seem to have the auto-renaming option, it just throws an error and bypasses those files for upload.
I looked at the command zmv
, but so far, I have no success. I managed to rename all spaces to _
with zmv '(*)' '${1/ /_}'
, but that's actually not helping. Most of these special character don't work with zmv, even if I escape them with \
.
I am on macOS Ventura 13.4 and OneDrive 23.114.0530.0001. I backed up E-Mails from some years and their header is automatically used as file name. My problem files contain lots of these characters like:
This is an "E-Mail".eml
Is this an E-Mail?.eml
This is also an *E-Mail*.eml
Does anyone have an idea how I can get rid of these characters without having to rename these ~650 files manually?

I would like to use the OneDrive app on macOS Catalina 10.15.7. I have tried double-clicking, left-clicking and selecting "Open", and even tried launching the app from the terminal. However, it simply refuses to launch.
I tried monitoring the system with Activity Monitor as I tried to launch the application. Sometimes it momentarily appears as using CPU and energy resources, before simply vanishing. Other times it does not even show up in Activity Monitor. The installed version is 14.5.2 which at the time of writing, is the current version on the App Store.
I have tried resetting the app following these instructions , but no improvements are noticed. Several attempts at uninstalling and re-installing the application does not help it run on my Mac.
What else can I check or try to get it to start?

Cannot open some files when stored in a "cloud" location (iCloud/One/Google Drive, etc.)

I'm using the officials OneDrive (version
23.071.0402.0001
) and Google Drive (version 73.0.4.0
) macOS apps to sync my cloud files on my Mac. It worked fine for few months, but now I cannot open some files (either Google Drive or One Drive), mostly .docx
and .pdf
ones but not limited to them.
The files are synced to be replicated locally so they are present on the hard drive and they are usable offline. For instance, I'm able to copy a file to the Downloads folder and open it while being offline, but I cannot open it directly from the cloud drive folder.
This does not seem to be related to the app used to load the file, the app works fine in other situations. Moreover, I'm unable to open such files with **any** app (for instances Pages for a .docx
file). I also checked the privileges of the files and folder and they are normal. What is weird is that I'm able to preview those files with QuickLook (still being offline) but not open them. The app launches but the files never open.
I restarted the Mac and the OneDrive and Google apps and switch off then on the sync process but this did not solve the issue. My Mac is up to date, though, it's the last compatible version (macOs Monterey 12.6.4) since it's a MacBook Air early 2015 which is not updatable anymore. I tried to reinstall completely Google Drive and download again all files and the issue is still here.
The issue seems to disappear if I disable the local replication of the files (at least in Google Drive), but this defeat the purpose of local replication and its not an option since I need my files offline. For OneDrive the issue disappear if I duplicate the file, but this is not practical neither. I tried to move the un-openable files to iCloud and I get the same issue, I cannot open them. it only works if the files **are not** in a "Cloud" location, i.e. local only.
**I was able to replicate the issue on a different machine (MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro running macOS Ventura) with a different Google account, thus, I strongly believe that the issue is with the File Provider API rather than the files or account.**

**tl;dr** _Even though Camera Upload is enabled in OneDrive app in my iPhone SE 2020, it seems to be not working at all. Neither new nor existing photos are never uploaded to OneDrive. I also cannot find any way to select a destination folder to which photos will be uploaded._
----
### The Problem
On my iPhone SE 2020 in _OneDrive_ app I cannot:
- Enable _Camera Upload_ functionality (actually: I can enable it, but it isn't working)
- Select a destination folder in OneDrive, to which photos will be uploaded
### Configuration
I went to _OneDrive_ → _[user photo]_ → _Settings_ → _Camera Uploaded_ and set:
* _[my private account]_: **on**
* _Upload Using Mobile Data_: **on**
* _Include Videos_: **on**
* _Organise new uploads_: **Months**
* _Reupload From Original Formats_ → _Reupload Still Photos as Live Photos_: **off**
No more options found in this section of _Settings_ in _OneDrive_ app. No way to tell _OneDrive_, which folder I want it to upload my photos to.
### Results
* Neither newly captured nor existing photos are ever uploaded.
* Phone has an uninterrupted access to the Internet using two various sources (home Wi-Fi and mobile GPRS data).
* Any other Internet-depended application is accessing the web in the same time without any problems.
### Hardware Gear
* Model: **iPhone SE**
* System: **iOS 16.3.1**
The functionality **is not working**.
What am I missing? What else must I check or try?
**EDIT**: _The described functionality doesn't work in OneDrive app running on Apple products only (if that matters). It works without any problems in OneDrive app running on a variety of Android-powered devices._

I'm fond of this little program: https://www.umlet.com/ . Never had issue with running it on Windows.
Recently at work I have to use it on a Mac, and if I try to save/open a diagram in a OneDrive folder synced by Microsoft OneDrive sync client, the open/save dialog does not show any files in the OneDrive folder.
I suspect this has something to do with granting permissions to access OneDrive files, but I can't find any options anywhere to allow this. Any solution?

My OneDrive and DropBox will not sync photos on my iPhone unless they are opened. I have checked both apps settings and they are allowed to run in the background. Also, both are allowed to use cellular data. So, basically, I followed all the recommendations however it seems they only sync when they are opened. iCloud syncs fine and I can see all my photos in the cloud.
Any idea or tips on how to make OneDrive and DropBox work in the background?

Is it possible to backup my entire MacBook to Microsoft OneDrive?
I have a lifetime of free 5TB cloud storage on Microsoft OneDrive via my university. Is it possible to configure things or write a script so that the entire contents of my computer are continuously backed up to OneDrive? Thank you! Gabriel

Since the Venture update that doesn't work anymore. Opening spotlight and typing in the name shows a OneDrive icon and when pressing Enter and nothing happens except spotlight closes. :-(
I tried to update OneDrive, reseted it, did a few newstarts, but nothing helped.
Searching in Finder works fine.
Maybe you can help me?
