My office uses a software suite created by an independent developer called Microsoft.
An app within this suite keeps adding itself to my Ventura 13 startup items. I neither asked for nor approved this system-level change on my Mac.
I previously solved this with another app in the same suite by opening the app, then changing some settings in the applications preferences; however, this "SharePoint" app can not be found in the apps folder or by using the Spotlight search tool on the Mac. Additionally, I can not see that the app has ever started, disallowing me to access it as an open app.
Apple usually does a very good job of controlling renegade developers like this—at least offering tools to allow users like us to exercise our choice—but this one has me confounded.
**Does anyone know how to prevent the addition of Microsoft SharePoint to our LogIn items?**

(OneDrive will not allow your sync directory to be your home directory.) Are there any tricks to get these and other locations to sync here on the Mac?
(FWIW I do have "Premium OneDrive" through my **Microsoft 365 Family** subscription.)

opening an office sharepoint link in the desktop application
I often receive links to sharepoint files, which look like this: `https://myCo.sharepoint.com/:p:/r/sites/myFolder/Shared%20Documents/myPresentationFile.pptx?d=somestring&csf=1&web=1&e=bxsaTa` I typically save them in webloc files, so I can open the shared version (and not a copy on my machine). I often receive links to sharepoint files, which look like this:
https://myCo.sharepoint.com/:p:/r/sites/myFolder/Shared%20Documents/myPresentationFile.pptx?d=somestring&csf=1&web=1&e=bxsaTa
I typically save them in webloc files, so I can open the shared version (and not a copy on my machine). However, double clicking on the webloc file will open the web version of the application (Microsoft Word, Excel etc) and not the desktop application. Importantly, the exact same link, when present in Microsoft Outlook, Teams etc. will open in the desktop application, as it is possible in those applications to set the default method to open links (browser vs. desktop).
In summary, my question is: is it possible to open a Microsoft Sharepoint link, saved in a webloc file, directly in the desktop application and not in the web application?

I would like to support SharePoint 2013 with default out-of-box settings on iOS 8 devices. I see a lot of forum discussion on both Apple and Microsoft sites regarding IIS Windows Authentication being broken with Safari in iOS 8. Without bypassing Windows Authentication, I'm looking for details on any scheduled software fix in iOS 8, or workarounds like using Chrome on iOS 8 as mentioned in some of the forum posts. Unfortunately the Chrome workaround is a partial fix as iOS 8 does not allow Chrome to be the default browser for links opened from email or elsewhere on your mobile device. Here are the relevant discussions and links I used while attempting to find a solution or verify the problem.
- [Cannot see Sharepoint with iOS8](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6539205) (Apple Support Communities)
- [iOS 8 Safari not working with [...] Windows Authentication](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6538068) (Apple Support Communities)
- SharePoint 2013 is not compatible with iOS 8 (Microsoft TechNet Forums)
- sharepoint 2013 ios 8 safari (Google Search)
A note regarding Windows Authentication (NTLM/Negotiate) authentication default configuration for SharePoint 2013. For compatibility with various Microsoft products including the SharePoint Search Crawler, [Microsoft Field Engineer Brian Pendergrass says *"the crawler requires Windows Authentication [NTLM or Kerberos] in whatever zone your [sic] crawl …meaning your Default zone should include Windows Authentication)"*]([Link](https://web.archive.org/web/20151217143838/http://blogs.msdn.com:80/b/sharepoint_strategery/archive/2014/07/08/problems-when-crawling-the-non-default-zone-explained.aspx)) . Microsoft Office integration also seems to be optimized for SharePoint Windows Authentication. Based on this rationale, the default zone should always be configured for Windows Auth and only alternate zones should be used for alternative authentication like Forms Auth. Our organization chooses to deploy only one zone to require all SharePoint URLs to have the same form (SSL + Fully Qualified Domain Name) - thus we're stuck on a default zone with Windows Authentication.

Tool to identify all filepaths/filenames exceeding Windows' allowed length?

I have a folder containing several nested subfolders.
The parent folder is 1.2GB, and contains nearly **3,000 mainly screenshot image files**.
My Mac doesn't have a problem with the long filepaths/names obvs, but I now need to share these files with a very large **UK Authority running Windows** (not sure which version, as my Q has fallen on deaf ears so far...)
I think the only method I will be allowed to share the files by is OneDrive/Sharepoint - the Authority is restricted from using any other Cloud sharing method.
Due to the nesting (which has to stay) **many of the filenames/paths are too long, and One Drive is repeatedly rejecting over 1,200 of them without syncing.**
Pop-up error box only shows one offending filepath, helpfully doesn't offer a list of 'non-compliant' files.
**Is there a quick way of identifying and grouping the offending filenames/filepath names together so as I can rename them?**
I don't want to *batch* rename them in case that alters the meaning I've chosen for the individual file names, which are important.
Over 95% of the files are image-only files and evidence in an employee fraud investigation. Each filename is important as it gives *context to the image*, hence me not wanting to use a batch tool to change the names to something shorter but unhelpful.
I don't mind going through them one by one, but need to know *which* are the 'offending' filenames/filepaths if I'm to do so.
It may be that I can also nest the folders slightly differently if I know which ones are causing the problems, as that may reduce the filepath length.
**Ideally I'm seeking a canny bit of software similar to MassReplaceIt** (which I've already used to find and replace 'illegal characters' in the filenames) but can use terminal command if no software exists.
Thanks!

I recently signed up for a Microsoft 365 account, with OneDrive — my plan is to move essentially all my data into the OneDrive folder on macOS (currently using 11.2.3) so it is continuously backed up. So for it has worked mostly very well - except for my Photos.app data. I moved
~/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary
to my OneDrive folder, and now OneDrive is constantly syncing metadata files in that bundle related to its database (*e.g.* psi.sqlite
, mediaanalysis.db
, *.ithmb
) and they are not small - some several hundred MB. I have the bandwidth at home, that is not the issue (although it may become a problem…) - the real issue is my MacBook Pro now almost constantly sounds like I have an airplane taxiing next to me. Looking in Activity Monitor
I see that the **OneDrive** and **distnoted** are often using 100+% CPU, causing the fans to run at top speed near-constantly.
So — is there any way to keep Photos background processes from constantly updating my Photos Library metadata, and/or get OneDrive to dial down the intense CPU usage? I don't want to have to remove my photos from Photos.app, but I may have find another solution if this doesn't work out.

The usual behaviour when opening a Document on SharePoint ist that the document is opened in the corresponding Web App. In my case it is simply downloaded (with Safari).
It was like that with OS X 10.8, than it was OK with some of the 10.9 versions and now is back to download only with 10.10.
It should not be version related as I know of machines with El Capitan where the behaviour is *normal* (open in browser).
Any idea what would make my browser act differently?

The SharePoint plugin seems installed:
But I have other machines with the same version (10.11.2) where it does work.

There are various OS X approaches to using the **WebDAV service provided by Microsoft SharePoint**.
# Integrity of data
Answers to this question focus on integrity:
- when a file is used by a single user
- when a file is used by multiple users.
Whilst some parts of an answer may be generalised to WebDAV servers in general, this question focuses on SharePoint – where **Microsoft's server and client restrictions** cause people to seek **alternatives to Microsoft Document Connection**.
Some overlap with an earlier question:
- Is it possible to mount SharePoint as a volume in 10.6?
## Reference
Drafted in May 2012 a table:
- File open/lock protection for multi-user use of Microsoft SharePoint
Key points from that draft:
- restrictions in SharePoint make Microsoft Office 2011 incompatible with file system integration
- Microsoft Document Connection lacks file system integration.
If any reader can draw a conclusion that differs from what's tabled: I'll welcome discussion in Ask Different Chat, or add your answer below.
Some parts of that table will become answers to this question …

I did a custom installation of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on my MacBook Air running 10.8.4., but I changed my mind and decided to uninstall it.
I only installed Word, Excel, and Proofing Tools (English only).
I'm reading up on how to fully remove all the tidbits Microsoft sprinkled about, and I noticed a couple files on my system:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointWebKitPlugin.webplugin
I didn't include SharePoint in the installation, so I'm not sure that's where these files came from. It's a new machine, so the only alternative is that they were included with OS X 10.8.4, in which case I'm inclined to leave them be.
Does anybody know more about these files, where they likely came from?
