A friend is still happily using their trusty 2009 MacBook with El Capitan and Apple Mail v9.3 installed. Apple Mail was configured to fetch all their mail from a POP3 account and save them locally. Now Apple Mail has stopped working and immediately crashes everytime it's opened. Deactivating the POP3 mail account fixes Apple Mail but naturally their old emails aren't displayed any more. The emails are all still there on the disk unter /Library/Mail/V3/POP-"name-of-mail-account" though from where we can open them manually. Re-adding the POP3-account makes Apple Mail crash again. Adding the POP3-account to Apple Mail under a clean user account works, as soon as I copy over the Library/Mail folder it's back to crashing. When trying to import the MBOX-folders into Apple Mail I get the error "no valid MBOX folder found". So, how can I recover the emails (and preferably transfer them into a less ancient mail program such as Thunderbird)? Any help is greatly appreciated!

On my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) I have noticed a problem with popping sound. It happens both on running on AC adapter and battery: Macbook makes light pop sound (like from static electricity) from left or right speaker (this is random) after stopping playback of any audio – when speakers enter stand-by mode (turn off). Here is a video with that sound: https://youtu.be/H2gxz53QTZ4 (+ comments) and here is some discussion on this topic: https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/378356/Strange+pop+sound+sometimes https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/714kae/does_your_macbook_pro_2017_pop_after_audio/ I tried SMC and NVRAM reset, I also reinstalled MacOS (to High Sierra, now I'm back on Mojave) but with no help. When I have headphones connected to Macbook, then in exactly same time (entering stand-by after audio playback) I can also hear some unexpected sound – like disconnecting headphones from power. Do you have same experience with your Macbook? Is there any possibility to modify stand-by setting? Somebody tried to work around this by writing antipop script: https://www.tomsick.net/projects/antipop.html But I don't want to disable stand-by completely, so this program is useless for me.

In Mail>Preferences>Accounts they both appear, one with a grey IMAP beneath it and one with a grey POP. In Settings>Internet Accounts they also both appear, this time with a grey Mail and a grey Notes beneath them. Is there any reason why I should want this setup, and what is the best way to rationalise it (which I would like to do by removing the POP, but without losing emails)?

How to access gmail via pop instead of imap in mail.app in iOS 7.1

In iOS 6.x, my iPad and iPhone were connected with pop to gmail accounts. When I delete a message on the iPad or iPhone, the message is NOT deleted on the gmail server. So the message is still in my Apple Mail box on my OSX Lion Mac. The Mac Mail uses IMAP, so when I delete a message on the Mac, it IS deleted from the gmail server and the iPad and iPhone do not show the deleted message on their next update. How do I implement this "Mac is master" with the iPad and iPhone on iOS 7.1? I have tried enabling POP on the gmail server and told it to keep mail on the server's inbox. But deleting on the iPad POP client still deletes the message from the server and it's no longer available on my IMAP Mac. I'm following instructions from "https://support.google.com/mail/topic/3398031?hl=en&ref_topic=3396281 " in the POP section. Am I missing something? Or is it just not possible anymore?

I recently attempted to switch OS X Mail from using POP to using IMAP to access my Microsoft Outlook (msn.com) e-mail account. In doing so **all** mail in my Outlook account older than a week *disappeared*. Where did this mail go and how do I recover it? --- FWIW, I've switched back to POP (IMAP appears not really to work), but the missing messages are still gone (and they're missing from outlook.com too). And FWIW, here's what my "Activity" looks like after creating the Outlook.com IMAP account (while nothing beyond a handful of messages has appeared in my OSX client): Meanwhile, the number of unread messages I see on iOS for the same account (synced using an "Outlook.com" account) is ***diminishing***! Weirdly, when (and only when) my network connection is interrupted (e.g. if my system sleeps) the number of messages in my MSN inbox jumps a bit.

This fetched only message headers - all at once - and displayed the list in a window then allowed to individually select messages and delete them directly from the server. Not all messages via the Preferences - Accounts - Advanced - Remove now option but individually. I can't seem to find this option any more. Was this removed from Mail or just well hidden?

One of my team members approached me today asking about an issue they're having with their Mac Mail Client and Gmail. I am a Linux user and do not have much experience with Mac, but thought I would reach out to this community on their behalf. - User aggregating 3 email addresses into Mac Mail (Gmail Personal, Gmail Professional, Hotmail) - All email providers set up properly as IMAP (POP on phone) - User experiences duplicates in both Sent folder - User's Drafts folders has incomplete information (some emails are missing) - Mail Server information appears to be correct **Thoughts** I am thinking that this might be an issue with IMAP vs. POP, but I figure that the Sent folder would be suffering from similar issues. I have a fresh install of mavericks. For reasons relating to my own workflow I would like to access my gmail via mail.app using pop instead of IMAP (I prefer to store only what I need on my mac but never delete anything from gmail). However mail.app seems to have become too clever for this now, and automatically identifies my account as gmail and sets it up with IMAP even when I try to set it up a second time with pop. How do I get mail to let me configure a pop account for gmail? Or has mail not been simplified to the point of removing this basic configurability?

Apple mail and a POP3-only mail account
I have set up a mail account with Apple Mail. What I realized only when it was "too late", the mail server does not provide IMAP (only for a fee), and thus roundabout 100 E-Mails were downloaded and removed from the server. Can I somehow upload those emails back up to the server?

This is happening with Mail.app 6.6 on OS X 10.8.5, but has been going on for a few OS X versions. In Mail.app, my account settings specify to delete junk mail after one day. Except it never gets deleted. I can set it to delete on quitting mail, but that still doesn't work. I have to delete everything in the junk mail folder manually. Items are placed in the Junk folder that are identified as junk, but they are never deleted automatically. The accounts in question (I have the same issue in all of them) are POP3. I tried rebuilding the mailboxes, to no avail. None of the affected mailboxes are gmail, though I do have a gmail account I look at through Mail.app. I asked this on the Apple discussion forums, but no answer there. can anyone here make any suggestions? From the online Help for Mail.app: enter image description here This is exactly what I've set to anything *other* than never, but messages in the junk mailbox doesn't ever get automatically deleted.

I have a Mail.app rule script that worked fine in Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It is simply a script that allows for AND/OR boolean logic combined together to trigger one (rarely two) of the following actions: 1. Move message to archive folder 2. Delete email message (move to trash) 3. Forward the message to someone 4. Color the message (to signal importance) [You can review the script here](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13354075/MacMailScript.scpt) . The bulk of the script is made of the boolean conditions I’m looking at (and yes, I know my multiple 'else if's' could have been combined into fewer if statements, but I just found it easier to have each ‘condition’ that I’m looking for in its own if statement). In Snow Leopard, everything worked fine, but in Lion I get some strange behavior. My Inbox gets tricked/stuck thinking it has emails to download. Basically every message that would have been ‘moved/deleted’ somehow doesn’t get flagged as processed on my POP3 server. So every time I get mail, I see the following under Mail Activity: ‘Incoming Messages… X of Y’ (where Y is the growing number of emails affected by my script), yet nothing new is downloaded. If I turn my Mail Rule off that runs the script, all emails are re-downloaded again into my Inbox. A few points of note: * I’m connecting to POP3 accounts * I used to use Growl 1.2.2, but I disabled that on a hunch that it wasn’t compatible with Lion. You’ll still see a sendGrowl function in the script, but you’ll notice that the entire function body is commented out. Any suggestions or ideas on how to get this working again so I could tame my inbox would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

I'm trying to set up my POP3 Gmail account on a Retina MBP running OS X 10.8.2. A few months ago, I managed to do the same thing, the first time around, on an iMac, working with the same Gmail account and under an earlier Mountain Lion release. This time, Mail gives me no errors, and despite having followed Google's guidelines on how to set up POP3 email on Apple Mail, no messages will download on the MBP, even after checking for new mail, and right-clicking the account to force download. Has anyone encountered this issue, and found a fix?

Has anyone else experienced problems logging into POP servers that require plain text password login? Or more importantly found a work around? (I know that in this day and age a plain text password long for POP is bad, but I have no control over this server) Based on a packet trace it looks like Mail 5.0 doesn't even try to login based on the settings in the preferences, it just connects queries capability and quits reporting that the server doesn't support "Password" the thing is, there is no required capability for plain Password method, it is a base POP command.
