I have Fairphone 2 running Fairphone Open OS, and I'm making a quixotic effort to avoid installing non-free (as in freedom) software on it and to optimize privacy. I want swipe input, but I don't want to install Google Keyboard, (LatimeImeGoogle.apk) By default, the OS has AOSP keyboard. I've also installed the wonderfully code-friendly AnySoftKeyboard (which also has awesome themes) and Hacker's Keyboard from F-Droid, but though they are useful to me, they don't have swipe input. I've read [this post](http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/guide-how-to-enable-googles-gesture-t2012628/post34605586#post34605586) which makes me think I have to get the source and compile the keyboard. I don't know how to do this at the moment, but I'm prepared to learn. I tried just replacing the library (by cheating and taking the correct library from the Google apk) mentioned in the post, and nothing changed (if I delete the library the keyboard stops working completely, so clearly I am making a system change by replacing it - it just doesn't do what I want). I would like any of the following, in order of preference 1. a nice code-friendly FOSS keyboard with gesture input 2. a simple* way to enable gesture input for AOSP 3. confirmation that I do, in fact, need to build AOSP myself to do what I want 4. any other relevant advice(!) Obviously, I have root :) *I have an Ubuntu system to play with on my laptop if it helps...

My problem: I was at an event the other day taking notes on my Google Pixel 5. I had to gesture type quickly, creating 3 pages of notes. Now, a few days later, I'm reviewing my notes and correcting a few typos that unsurprisingly resulted from gesture typing. There's one particular typo, though, that I can't figure out from the context. For reference, and as an example, the typo in my notes is the word "faint". What I've tried: I tried gesture typing the typo word in a document just to see what other suggestions I would be given. It wasn't a success. I looked at a physical keyboard, listed all the letters near every letter of the word "faint", and tried to determine other possible words from that swipe pattern. I'm not too great at word puzzles like that, and don't really have time to figure out every possibility, so no success there. My question: Are there any online or other tools available where I could type in a word and get a list of all possible gesture typing words that might be connected to that gesture (or a similar gesture)?

Restore old keyboard on Lollipop
I love Lollipop, but the keyboard is killing me. When I swipe words, the text that shows up in the text box does not match what the suggestion says. It picks the one in the text box and not the one in the suggestions box. I'm used to looking at the suggestions box, and not the text box so it is really throwing me off. Here's an example of what I mean. I swiped the word "this" and it it gives me the correct word in the text box, but the centre suggestion is not the same. How do I restore that functionality on Lollipop? ![this](https://i.sstatic.net/biXby.png)

t Google Keyboard gesture typing intermittently stopping after switching keyboards
Sometimes when I switch keyboards (from Google Pinyin input) back to English the gesture (Swype) typing doesn't work. There may also be a several second delay when switching. Sometimes when I switch keyboards (from Google Pinyin input) back to English the gesture (Swype) typing doesn't work. There may also be a several second delay when switching. Occasionally the app I'm using loses its bottom half to a glitchy-looking keyboard. The problem goes away on its own after some time has passed or after force-quitting the app that was open when switching. This problem is present on both a Nexus 4 and Nexus 6 running Lollipop and Marshmallow respectively.

Disable emoji suggestions when using gesture typing with the default Google Keyboard
I use gesture (swipe) typing on my phone to enter text. However, sometimes when I enter certain words, the keyboard suggests emoji icons instead of the word I typed. For example, when I gesture type the word 'man', I am suggested the male symbol, but if I tap type the word 'man', it works fine and I am suggested the word instead. See images below. Gesture Normal As you can imagine this is frustrating when typing quickly. This happens in all applications. I'm using a Nexus 5 running KitKat 4.4.4. How can I disable emojis from being suggested when gesture typing?

Does Android KitKat have an Indian English **gesture** keyboard? If yes, then how can I enable it? There are some apps in play store which does the same, however I would like this feature in the default Google keyboard itself.

I recently played with my friend's Nexus 7 and tried the gesture typing. And I'm surprised it only works on user's locale keyboard. It lacks Ukrainian dictionary too :( , but that's another question. It works only on Russian keyboard. Dictionaries for all English variants are present, I even tried all three English keyboards (QWERTY, UK, US). Android version is 4.2.2. Is that a bug? A reported one?

With the 4.2 update, I've begun using the default Android keyboard's gesture typing. However, I've noticed that in Google Now, the keyboard behaves as if it were a web browser. That is, it doesn't offer alternate suggestions when typing a word. For example, my girlfriend's name is Brooke. If I'm attempting to pull up her contact details through Google Now, the keyboard interprets my gesture as "broke." But, if I use the same gesture in any other place (besides a web browser address bar) it offers me "Brooke" as an alternate suggestion. What I mean is this: Search for vs. this: Search for Is there a way to fix this? I know that I could work around by typing individual letters or using last names, but it's rather frustrating to have to do so. Thanks.
