Noticed it because iPhone is connected to AirPlay device and music is stopped every ~15 minutes and when I check the connection I see 4G, but not WiFi.

I have just received a new SIM card I want to use in an iPhone 4S. The phone reports decent 3G connectivity and can make phone calls, but it does not connect to data services. Data services work when using older SIM cards from the same carrier. Also, the new SIM card works when installed in newer phones (testet on an iPhone SE and an iPhone X).
So, out of six possible phone and SIM combinations, the only one not working is the oldest phone with the newest SIM card. All SIM cards are from the same carrier, and the Mobile Data Network settings are as recommended by the carrier, and identical across the phones, except that the oldest phone is a 3G phone, while the newer models support 4G/LTE.
Can the new SIM card be incompatible with older phones? If not, what can the issue be? The carrier support has been unhelpful so far.

iPhone 7 never shows "LTE" even on LTE network

I have an iPhone 7 which I bought directly from Apple, and my SIM contract is with Three here in the UK. I have been using this phone happily since September, I had noticed the mobile data connection flips between *3G* and *4G* which I thought little of at first. I figured 3G = HSPA/+ and 4G = LTE.
However, the other week I was with a friend in the US who had recently got a 7 plus. She is with AT&T and I noticed that her phone was most often displaying *LTE* as the connection type. I thought this was odd as I had never seen this on my own iPhone 7 and had presumed that 4G meant LTE. I did a little googling and found some discussions which claimed that on iOS the 4G mean HSPA+ and 3G means regular old 3G. In this case I was double confused as my carrier, Three, supposedly has a 4G LTE network and so I should see LTE from time to time.
I understand that Three does not have an LTE-Advanced network, only regular LTE. So is this perhaps the distinction and confusion? 4G = LTE and LTE = LTE-Advanced?
Could somebody perhaps clear up what is going on? Do I need to contact my carrier to change the network connection settings on my phone? If I can make use of the iPhone 7's faster mobile data tech then I would like to as I am a very heavy data user. The reason I went with Three was for their unlimited data tariff.
EDIT:
As requested by owlswipe. A photo showing Speedtest saying the network is "Three LTE" with the network icon at the top left saying "4G" which it did throughout the test. I am on 40th floor of a tower here so speeds aren't fantastic...

I've read elsewhere that using 3G causes greater battery drain than 4G (in fact, Apple's own iPhone 5s spec sheet indicates that you only get 8 hours of 3G data, versus 10 hours of 4G LTE data). Which leads me to the following line of thought...
If I disable LTE and revert to standard 4G, what is the effect on battery life?

You're no doubt familiar with the AT&T Star Services codes one uses from the Phone app on an iPhone, such as *3282# to check data usage or *646# to check minute usage.
Whenever I send one of those codes while on the LTE network, the connection switches to 4G and remains there until you get the information you requested (via SMS), and remains on 4G even after the SMS text is received.
After anywhere from 20 to 60 seconds the connection automatically goes back to LTE.
Any idea why this happens?

My iPhone 5s always (since I bought it 14 months ago) connected to my Wi-Fi at home in priority over the 3G or 4G connection. Recently (for about 2 weeks now) it gives preference to 4G for some reason and my mobile internet service limit (200 MB) goes over in a few minutes if I'm watching a video, for example.
Why would this happen?
I don't remember changing anything in the definitions/options, only thing I did was an update to a new version of iOS, but then it only started to happen about 3 weeks after I did that update, so it seems like it's not related with that.
Can I do anything to stop this from happening?
Is it possible that I'm getting cuts in my wifi service and while the phone does not get connection with the Wi-Fi it starts to get it from the 4G connection without asking or even letting me know?

How to tell can I tell if my iPhone 5c is 3G or 4G?
I ordered an iPhone 5c for 4G usage. However, the phone I received displays a 3G on the top left of my screen. Does 3G on the top left mean I'm using 3G? Does this convert to 4G through proper configuration?

### Are the connectivity indicators the same for all iOS devices (with expected carrier differences) or should I assume "3G" on the 1st gen iPad means something different than "3G" on the new iPad?

iPad LTE edition and SIM from smartphone
I am thinking if it is possible to use my phone's SIM card in iPad's SIM slot? This because I need the 4G just only very few times, so when it will be necessary to use it, I will move the SIM from my smart-phone to the iPad. It is possible this scenario?

But I was just wondering if after this I would have to jailbreak my iPod again.

Will the 4G LTE used in an iPad bought in England also work in Sweden?

Is switching 3G/4G off to save power a cheap trick?
Since UMTS is a lot fast than EDGE, data transfers via UMTS take less time. When downloading the same file, it would take longer to be downloaded via EDGE. * Doesn't the difference in transfer time (partly) kill the advantage of saving power as the antenna pulls power for longer to end the transfer?

Can I simply remove the 3G SIM card from my original 2010 iPad, and insert it into my new 2012 iPad when it arrives? i.e. is it compatible and will my data plan continue to operate as before, but on the new iPad?
Then, even if it is compatible, is there an advantage to getting a new SIM card? Are there data features for the new iPad (e.g. higher speed?) only enabled by a new SIM card?

What does the "4G" that appears on my iPhone 4S's AT&T network indicator mean?
Since upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 (from 5.0.1), the AT&T network status indicator now reads "4G" where it once read "3G". What has changed from the previous version? Does this "4G" mean the same thing as it does on the "new iPad"?
