I tried USB C to Apple lightning cable plugged directly into my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports). I also tried to connect to the USB port on my monitor which is connected to my MacBook via USB C. In all cases the iPhone is charging but doesn't have an internet connection. What could be the problem?

How can I measure how much internet data I used on my Mac for a certain period of time?
I'm using a MacBook Pro and a modem. Is there any way to find out how much data (in GB) I've already used for a certain period of time (30 days)? Or measure the amount of data I'll use in coming month? (Not bandwidth)

Has anyone figured out reverse tethering (AP mode) Internet on macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 M1 Arm when macOS is Internet sharing over ethernet (via usb 10/100/1000) to broadcast a new WiFi AP? - I confirmed I have Internet with the ethernet in the USB hub in macOS. - I verified that this is en8 interface with the USB 10/100/1000 name - I enabled Internet sharing over the same interface over WiFi to turn macOS into an AP - I configured the WiFi SSID to broadcast under a custom name with a custom WPA2/3 password - My WiFi Internet icon on the top right says I'm sharing over channel 11 The issue is: - My phone can see a new broadcasted SSID but its the hostname of my laptop instead of my custom SSID name - When I connect my phone to macOS AP WiFi, there is no Internet - Network settings in macOS show that the WiFi is 'Not Connected' - No error messages are shown - I checked logs in /var/logs and no luck This seems like a configuration issue. How can I debug this? I looked at related questions and couldn't find a way forward.

Is there a way to set a site-specific user-agent for Safari? A website for school says it needs Firefox 3.x, but I have found that Safari 5 works fine. The problem is that every time I tried to log in, it warned me that my browser may not work. I set the default user agent to Firefox 3.6, and it worked fine. Now, big sites like Google and Pandora won't allow me to use certain services. (In Gmail, it just goes back to HTML. In Pandora, it blocks the whole site.) I don't want to use a different browser just for one website, and use another for everything else. I also don't want to manually change the user-agent every time I try to go to another page. Is there a way to do it automatically?

How do I disable Safari in OS X? The desired effect is the same as in iOS: in iOS, you can easily disable Safari through the Restrictions settings, and the app just hides but is not uninstalled. You cannot search for the app, see an icon, or open it in any way. I do not want to disable all browsers. In fact, that's the problem. The Parental Controls control all web things. And that's great. But if I want the default browser to be Google Chrome and I want to use a whitelist, then I can't use Parental Controls (at least since Yosemite). The Parental Controls option for a whitelist has been blocking everything from Chrome. Firefox has similar problems, but not as bad as with Chrome. If I use Chrome and Chrome's parental controls, then a user can just open Safari with no restrictions.

In this scenario I have an iPhone with a 5G connection. I have a PC on a local network WIFI that has No Internet whatsoever. I want to be able to use my iPhone on my 5G connection, while I still maintain connection with my PC that has the wifi with no internet. Wifi Assist does not help here because when Wifi Assist detects no internet connection, it breaks the wifi connection and periodically tries to swap you back when internet is restored, which will never happen - this wifi connection has no internet. So, How can an iPhone use mobile data for internet but also connect to an Access Point without Internet?

We activated our enterprise fiber internet today at our new location, 5 Gbps symmetrical. The tech had a fancy hardware tester that he plugged to their EAD gateway, and repeatedly measured 4.75 Gbps or better. I was trying to test with my laptop and a 10Gbps NIC — download was fine, ping = 1ms, however the upload never exceeded 4.0 Gbps. It's a new Macbook Pro M3 Pro, so the CPU is definitely up to the task. NIC is an Intel Pro/10Gbe (X520-DA2) in a Sonnet enclosure (x4 lanes confirmed) via Thunderbolt3 (40Gbps). We also use this network hardware regularly on our LAN side and get 700-1000MB/s. So the hardware chain should really be up to the task. **The system was plugged in directly to the ISP gateway, with the public IP. No other network components, devices, no firewalls, no routers, no switches. Nada.** Tried speedtest.net w/ multiple local servers, fast.com, Google, in Chrome, in Safari, the standalone SpeedTest app… all same results. (Well, Safari was crap, half speed.) The tech was also validating (and getting the full speed) from the same local servers. It's always been the same case at our current location (5/5Gb DIA, different ISP), the ISP tests the full speed, but I could never quite see it. But we have a busy live network here (that I can't just yank…..) so I usually let it be. My question is… Is there something about this tier of internet speed, PC, or desktop OS, that makes it impossible for a single system to utilize the entire (5Gbps) bandwidth? Is it about tuning the TCP stack, driver (doubt I have an alternative), or something else? It feels like I can't quite validate the service we're paying good money for… I have several days to tinker with this, before I have to start adding loads… so I'd love to sort it out.

Every few minutes my internet connection drops on my MacBook Pro 15" Mid-2015, running macOS Catalina 10.15.5. It stays connected to wifi, at least it indicates as such in the menu bar and System Preferences. However, I can't use the internet again until turning off and on wifi. Also, I can't connect to my router's webpage itself (normally http://192.168.1.1/ is my router's config pages) when this issue happens. However, from the terminal ping continues to work, for my router's IP and for names like google.com. This issue breaks: Safari.app, Discord.app, wget, curl, dig, Firefox Developer Edition.app, Chrome.app, Folx.app, Mail.app, .... almost everything internet-related I can think of testing except ping. ping times don't even increase while the rest of the internet "drops". This doesn't happen on any other device in the house. How can I stay connected to the internet all the time without having to worry about needing to reconnect like this? --------- My MacBook, like all other devices the problem _doesn't_ happen on, gets its IP address using DHCP. While the wifi is working: enter image description here While I can't connect to the internet: enter image description here > According to support.apple.com/kb/SP719, your Mac supports "802.11ac Wi‑Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible", is the wireless router configured accordingly? I'm not sure how to check... but I found on one page of my router's settings "Generic MAC80211 802.11bgn (radio0)" this text.

I have a 2020 (Intel) Macbook Pro 13" Retina with Touchbar. It's been overheating and one of the diagnostic steps suggested by Apple's online support is to reinstall the OS (ouch!). I'm trying to do that (installing Sonoma) with Internet Recovery, and it keeps failing with "preflight error 21" just after unlocking the hard disk (SSD): Preflight error 21 just after unlocking hard disk I gather this is related to lack of Internet access. I've tried with both wired and wireless connections, to the same LAN that I use every day for working from home, and Internet access seems fine. Also it's able to get well into the installer process, loading the recovery OS over the internet(?) and getting to the point where I select and unlock the disk. It is however unable to display the OS license agreement (it's blank) just before that step: License agreement unavailable Any ideas what else to try?

Our cable company recently upgraded our modem and cable box and I am no longer able to connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi. I can connect via Ethernet. Also, two windows laptops, two iPhones and an iPad are all connected via Wi-Fi so I believe the wireless signal is working and can be connected to. I can see the network but when I enter the password the login box shakes like an incorrect password was entered. This is the same password I use for the other devices and I have carefully entered it many times so it should work. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

I've tried: - turning wifi off and on - restarting - renewing DHCP lease - deleting wifi or ethernet service in Settings -> Network and re-adding - using different DNS servers like 1.1.1.1 instead of the default The fact that it happens on either wifi or ethernet, whether at work or at home suggests it isn't a router problem. Any ideas? **Edit 1:** Per Allan’s suggestion in the comments, I restarted into Recovery mode and used the Terminal there to ping google again, and there are no drops every 10 seconds. But logging back into non-Recovery mode, the problem remains ;_;

I have an interesting problem and I believe I may be halfway to understanding it but don’t know how to fix it. My home network has two routers. One is the main one and is in a cabinet so I do not have wifi enabled as the cabinet limits the range of the wifi. I have a second router placed elsewhere which runs my wifi. Currently Ethernet shows connected but no access To the internet. My guess is there is an issue with the iP address as the internet works on wifi with the Ethernet cable disconnected and slowly with it connected. With wifi off the Ethernet still doesn’t connect to internet even though shows green. I guess there is a conflict and would appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance

The easiest place to test this is at https://www.csm-testcenter.org/test?do=show&subdo=common&test=file_upload I cannot tell whether this is hardware or software (OS level) related, but I do know that it's only affecting my MacBook Pro (14-inch, Nov 2023, M3) with MacOS Sonoma 14.5 (23F79), and not other devices. It happens when using any Wi-Fi network, and also when connected via an adaptor to a wired network. I have cable broadband which gets speeds around 900mbps (up and down). Streaming music (e.g. from Amazon Music) is choppy and irritating. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated, as this is a daily frustration. Any other way I can perhaps narrow down what's going on? (some logging somewhere?)

As soon as I install the NordVPN app from the app Store on MacOS Mojave, the internet connection dies. I can't use my browser, or any internet connected apps. Deleting the app and then restarting the computer restores the internet. With NordVPN installed, there are same symptoms even when I login to my user account in safe mode. Pinging a website from terminal works fine. What I have tried: 1. DNS flush 2. deleting my WiFi interface and adding it again 3. trying a different connection (using personal hotspot from my phone) 4. uninstalling NordVPN and deleting all the leftover files in cache etc. and then reinstalling the app again. 5. everything works well on a different admin account on the same Mac. 6. most of the advice I could find on the internet didn't help I am suspecting that NordVPN is somehow turning on the kill switch as soon as it's installed. To that end, I tried turning the kill switch on and off on the app to rule that out and the internet still didn't work. How do diagnose this? NordVPN customer service was of no use.
