I use Linux for half a decade now, so I am not used to dealing with viruses anymore. To my surprise, I saw some discussion about antiviruses in Android. I haven't installed any yet, but this bugs me: are they really necessary? Are there (or were) any known viruses in the market? Doesn't Google runs an antivirus before allowing an app to the market? I haven't had any problem in one year of Android, but my cell phone has a lot of important information, and I wouldn't like to be surprised with some virus cleaning my phone, or making international calls while I sleep, or whatsoever. Should I install an antivirus?

I downloaded an apk from this site that it was supposed to be a modified app for a game (Candy Crush Saga). Here you can find the download link . The problem is that not only the app doesn't do what it was claimed to do (i.e. provide you with tricks, unlimited lives, etc) but most importantly it is a malware-virus. So after installing this app, I get pop up windows with ads. First of all I removed the apk and tried to search for the installed app through settings. Surprisingly I couldn't find anything apart from the apps I have installed through PlayStore! Then I installed Clean Master and AVG Antivirus but neither managed to find any problem. I also tried using DEBLOATER (I installed it through wine on my fedora 25 laptop) but this didn't work either. I also connected my phone to my laptop and tried to find and delete the bloatware but I wasn't able to find it. So my question is how can I remove this "app" when it's not visible in the app list? For reference I am running Android 6.0 and my phone is Oukitel k6000pro and my PC runs fedora 25.

enter image description hereI installed an APK which my friend sent through a link through instagram and as soon as I donwloaded and installed it, it disappeared into the background And she told me to unlock my oem before installing the apk This happened around late 2018 on a Redmi 4x satoni(I know I could buy a new phone but I want a solution) I have the following deductions about it - it survives a factory reset - it cannot see or work when a VPN is on - it has a keylogger and can see my entire media(vids, photos, music etc) - it can read browser data I only remember it has love in its name I think it has three words in its name it would be helpful if it possible to know what its name and how it works(if possible a link) (I did research before but could not find anything similar to this) I have used almost all avs but no hits I also got hit with sim swap which overcomes 2fa (I think it's got stuck in the bootloader and I need to flash the bootloader separately please guide me as I've already flashed the phone and I can't tell for sure about it because I think it's a rootkit imo) Thanks.

As far as is known, with ***this virus***, the attacker, in addition to stopping antivirus programs, can also block the system menu while working with it by the user. The virus copies system data and then stops whatever it wants?

It runs Android 9 Pie. The problem is that ESET finds a trojan as part of the OS. Or could it be a false positive? AVG was not able to detect it. **TrojanDropper.Agent.DHC** is the culprit in question. It's in **MtkSettings.apk** as part of settings. ESET scan Some other info: When you press **Build number** in settings several times, you get developer as usual. However, pressing **Custom build version** several times reveals the **Device info** option. Custom build version There it's possible to get to several advanced features: - pressing **ProductName info** several times opens **MTKLogger** - pressing **LCM info** several times opens **EngineerMode** - pressing **TP driver** opens **Hardware Check** Device info MTKLogger EM HC Also "spam" links open in Chrome randomly on their own from time to time. What's up with that? See attached screenshot for reference. spam

When wifi is on, Some strange applications are being installed automatically. I don't request them. They are downloaded without my permission. I uninstalled (removed) the unwanted apps from my smart phone. After a while, I found new unwanted apps in my phone. They are slowing down my cell phone and making it stuck. They also reserve or use my SD card and the internal memory of my phone. I tried to fix this issue by editing (adjusting) the settings of my mobile but nothing happens. I downloaded two antivirus softwares, They are avast and AVG, but nothing happens. What should I do to prevent these apps from being installed on my phone? Is there a good app that controls or manage the downloaded apps? By the way, yesterday, I found that mobile data is on without my permission and the unwanted apps were being downloaded. This costed me a lot of money. How can I get rid of all of these problems? Here is the specifications of my mobile: http://bestmobs.com/tecno-p5/ Thank you very much,

So I just got a blank text message from some number that I don't know. My worry is that this is some sort of intrusion attempt. My understanding is whenever I receive a text message, or a message with media, my phone automatically downloads it. So me receiving a blank text message from some unknown number leads me to believe that there was some sort of virus attached to the message and when the phone downloads the message, it will download that virus automatically. So my questions are: - Is it possible that this is a virus? - How can I check to see if my phone has a virus? - Is there a way to detect an intrusion attempt so that my phone will tell me if something is happening that shouldn't be?

I've recently noticed that once in every few days, several apps on my phone suddenly show as "recently updated", even though they didn't get any update from the Play Store. The way I can see that they were updated, is not through the Play Store, but rather through Nova launcher's "new/updated" apps category, and also through Total Commander's "Installed Apps" sorted by date. Since it's a Pixel phone, I wonder if that could be due to some Google-related infra/library being updated in the background (just like the Play Store app sometimes auto-updates itself without any notice), or should I start worrying about malicious code slowly crawling through my phone and injecting itself into other apps? A few points worth mentioning: * Phone isn't rooted, and doesn't allow to install third-party apps. * Developer options are accessible, but USB debugging is disabled, and I didn't change almost any setting there. * The Play Store app settings doesn't allow any kind of auto-update unless I initiate and approve each update. * The apps that change/update in each batch seem totally random: they could be of any type, and doesn't seem related to how frequently I use them (some of them I haven't launched in months, maybe a year or more). * Usually, no more than a few apps in each batch - and no more than one batch every 1-3 days or so. * These apps continue to get regular updates through the official Play Store and everything seem fine. * There are still many apps on my phone which weren't updated/changed at all, for some of them the last change/update was more than a year ago. Any ideas on what or how to check this? Anyone else may have noticed similar behavior?

How can I make my rooted Android 7 phone as secure as possible for financial transactions?
The latest security update patches for my phone was in 2017. My phone is rooted. What steps can I take to make it as secure as possible to be able to safely use financial apps where I'd be transacting money? These apps need Google services to work, so custom roms are not an option (or are they?).

More or less two or three weeks ago strange pop ups came up on my PC. Antivirus detected ga.js as virus. I thought it was a false positive. Then I've found that the thing somehow jumped on my phone. Every time I surf the internet, unwanted sites pop up. The thing is equally behaving on all browsers: native g3 browser, Mozilla and Chrome. I've tried almost everything: - Kaspersky free, McAfee security, and Malwarebytes - Delete Chrome cookies, block cookies, delete site data, delete cached data - Reset my router and clear the DNS cache. Nothing. The thing goes undetected, same thing on the PC. Even surfing without the router my phone redirects every time I browse. I'm about to hard reset my phone but this evidently is a malware. So how is it possible that it goes unnoticed? My phone is not rooted and the sites I'm being redirected to are those [reported here](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/100595/malware-adding-code-to-ga-js-opens-up-random-ads-websites) , amongst others. Anyway, I still don't see a solution to this problem.
