Apps like iMyFone and LockWiper claim that they can do this. If so how? I thought, **your data was encrypted if you use a password.**

It's an unfortunate fact that the pricey pocket computers we carry around with us at all times are prime targets for thieves—as well as very easy to leave behind in subway cars or on coffee shop tables. Now that we all rely on our smartphones for so much, having one stolen or misplaced can feel like the end of the world.
We are not bothered about the life-saving apps until we lost our Smart Phone or PC. Once something happens badly, we will run behind the apps to track the device.
But, by taking the correct Preemptive Measures/precautions beforehand, we can reduce the likelihood of crooks accessing our data, and make it easier to find our phone’s location. We can even make the phone itself pretty much useless to the thieves or anyone they sell it to.
And my question is **what are the Preemptive Measures You Should Do Before—And After—You Lose Your Phone?**

I have Kaspersky Mobile installed. Today I had to reinstall it after installing a new rom. Now whenever I turn on the phone, I have to enter the kaspersky unlock code, which is different from the sim card lock code. Before I had the lockcode disabled, and I could use the phone without having to enther any code. I would like to disable the lock code, but can't find the option in the Kaspersky app. I've searched in the system settings, but no luck.
Can you tell me where I can set this option?

How do i enable sms alert for sim change on my samsung galaxy s8?
I recently jumped from galaxy s3 to s8.
S3 had this neat feature called "SIM change alert" where you can enter a few phone numbers and if someone unauthorized replaces the sim card then the phone will send sms messages to the phone numbers entered earlier alerting them about the theft and thrives phone number.
However I'm unable to find a similar feature in my galaxy s8. Some articles on the internet state that signing in on my google account automatically activates antitheft features. But i don't see a place to enter phone no where alert messages would be sent

I want to create a "phantom account" or "guest account" on my smartphone Android to let other people accessing and using my phone without needing to enter the fingerprint pattern, on the one hand, and avoiding at the same time the risk that others can access my personal info, as far as I'm logged into my accounts (WhatsApp, messenger and so on).
Whoever accesses my system through a "guest account" would be able to connect to the internet, modifying settings and switching gps on, etc., but **wouldn't be able to access my personal data and apps**.
I'm focusing on something similar to what happens on Windows when you configure some anti-theft softwares (see -> https://help.eset.com/antitheft/en-US/issue_no_fakeuseraccount.html) .
I wonder: given that it's possible to create a phantom account on Windows, may I obtain something similar on Android too, to protect my privacy while I want to let others to use my phone?

My father made a installed as system update on his huawei gx 10.
After the reboot a message stated that the device was factory reseted and that it was necessary to log in with a google account that synced from this device.
First of all, not factory reset was made. At last not by a local user interaction. I hope all the data is still there and the message is incorrect. Of course my father made no backup. At last not willingly. Maybe some app-data was backuped to his google account, I'm not sure how to check what exactly is there.
I changed the Google accounts password because I assumed somebody remote-wiped it. But now this looks unlikely. It was probably a faulty update.
Second, the authentication does not work. This device only ever used one google account. When attempting to log in there is a message that this account wasn't previously used on this phone. This is false. When logging in to the account from a computer I can see the history of devices that where associated with it. This phone was associated with this account. However the phone lists two devices: "Huawei GX 10" (last activity 22h ago) and "Huawei GX 10 (new)" (last activity 10 min ago). Nobody in my family or my father ever owned a GX 10 besides this one. Maybe this is due to the fact the OS was updated? I don't know what version was running on it previously and don't think i can find out the current version right now. The whole problem would probably a way less serve if google recognized that these two phones are the same.
In summary, I have physical access to the phone and access to the google account, but can't get past android device protection.
Did this happened before? Is there any hope that does not involve desoldering the flash chips?

By *locked* I mean a phone that has been locked with a standard PIN code, password or pattern.
I'm not meaning to break into somebody's phone, merely wondering to what extent applying any of the standard screen lock methods to my phone would protect my data in case of theft.
In case a locked phone can easily be rooted, I assume the lock can then also be bypassed, and locking the phone is then really of little value for protection (since rooting techniques are common knowledge these days), and I would then have to consider other protection mechanism, such as encryption.
Please keep your answer concise, and don't give general security advice. I just want to know if there are known (widespread) methods to root locked Android devices.
Note this question is with regard to Android phones with factory default settings (i.e. no developer options, USB debugging enabled).
I'm specifically interested in Nexus devices running Android 4.4 KitKat.

The stolen phone had a simple swipe lock (Android 5.1) - if the thief set up a pattern/pin in the meanwhile is the ADM lock basically useless?
---
Okay, in my case the thief can definitely still use the phone - he receives WhatsApp messages and can read them eventhough I've set up the remote lock over 50 times. This is absolutely revolting - an utterly useless feature. I can guarantee he's not circumventing it another way - if they were even at the least bit technically savvy they would have wiped the phone, switched the Google account or at least disabled ADM long ago.

Did Nokia did it better by limiting control over non end user functions?

Why is not flashing process protected by password?
I would like to know why not manufacturers include a protection against flashing recovery or ROM under a password like IMEI, I mean, the devices should be protected via hardware to prevent against unwanted flashing process, IMHO.

If it becomes the case that my phone is stolen, I would like to make it as difficult as possible, if not impossible, for my data to be accessed without my permission.
I understand that Android has the ability to perform a full disk encryption on my phone. However, I also understand that the disk is decrypted on boot. Which means once the phone has successfully booted, the encryption is no longer applicable.
Personally, I tend to keep my phone booted at all times for convenience reasons. This seems to imply that my phone will therefore be decrypted at all times. Given this situation, are there still any benefits to encrypting my Phone? Additionally, would encryption help me at all in the case of theft? If not, are there any alternatives to protecting my data from theft?

How to be sure that you are not tracked with anti-theft software or similar when using tab previously owned by someone?
I have seen the amount of pictures and personal data an anti-theft software can dig on person using a stolen phone. How can one make sure that he is not tracked through similar software when using a previously owned tab/phone? I understand that a factory reset is not enough in most cases.
