I have many resolutions with ALT on scaled but no smoothness. It was the same on windows also. However, when connect with VGA it was clear and smooth as a normal monitor. The resolution it shows: > 1080p 1080i 720 480 1366x769 1240x... ... 840x... Do I need drivers or cabling or settings to change the blur?

Send "soft power off" signal from a Mac via HDMI to a TV

I think Apple TVs can turn TVs on and off, so then a Mac should theoretically be able too. Is there a command line utility that does this, eg. hdmitool --soft-power-off? PS! This question is a spinoff from this question which has some background on the problem.

I am a video editor and I want to split up my 42 inch TV into multiple desktops. I want to shrink the display into multiple shrunk sections, so the Mac Pro thinks that there are 2 or 4 monitors hooked up but there is actually only one super freaking huge TV, made to look like 4 monitor displays. I want to have sharper resolution. Just having a bigger screen isn't doing it for me. I need 2 monitors for Final Cut Pro - not just big Final Cut Pro windows. I do not want to "Size Up" or Split the screen into multiple windows, I want multiple displays. I want to trick my monitor into thinking that there more than one display. Any ideas. It looks like Microsoft has similar programs but nothing for Mac.

### Problem I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. I also have a JVC television with an HDMI port. When I connect the two via an HDMI cable, the laptop appears to recognize that I've connected to another display (the television shows up in System Preferences). Unfortunately the picture on the television is blank, as if it's not receiving a video signal at all. I've tried connecting via the MiniDisplay port (and a MD to HDMI converter) and the results are identical. I've also found that I can connect a 2010 MacBook Air to the television without issue. ### Things I've tried I've restarted the machine, reset the SMC, and turned the television off and on several times. Any ideas?

How do I make macOS properly blacken my TV screen on standby

I have a Mac Mini connected to a Sony W755C TV by HDMI. If I put "Set display to sleep" on the Mac, the TV goes to black but displaying a *very unsightly OSD text* **"HDMI 1 (Clock) No input. Check your cables, etc."** which stays on forever, until I power the TV off manually. I can't find any menu items in the TV to remove the OSD, which just looks ugly on the huge TV in my living room. So I tried to use the TV's own "standby if inactive for n hours", but "inactive" for the TV means not fiddling with the remote, which I only use for ON/OFF. The TV is oblivious to what's going on on the Mac. So it will suddenly suggest to sleep in the midst of a movie, which is obviously annoying. Is there any way I can make the TV either a) go to standby modus without any OSD text, or b) soft-power off (same as pressing OFF on the remote -- which is not *full* power off, mind you...)

I have an old Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro Stick (800e) that I would like to use to record and watch TV using an over-the-air antenna. I know that some people love EyeTV, but it's a bit expensive and not very configurable as far as I can tell. The ideal software would have some or all of the below features: - Inexpensive (price of software and price of program guide (EPG) subscription) - Configurable recordings ("record every new episode of this show") - Automated commercial removal from recordings - Automated and configurable export of recordings (location, video format, file name based on program data) - Live TV or recordings streamed to other devices (Roku, iOS, web browser) I'm in the US and am looking to watch OTA HD TV stations (ATSC). Does this unicorn exist?

Approximately two days ago Apple TV’s Watch Now screen stopped letting me watch the next episode of a show that I own and am watching. Instead it takes me to the rent/buy interface. I can watch the next episode by going to Library and finding the episode, but that is irritating. This happens across all places I try to use AppleTV, my mac, iPhone, and the Apple TV app on my Roku. I've tried logging out of my account and back on, but that does not help. I've tried removing the series from watch now, but when I watch an episode through the library, it returns to watch now (which is what I would like to happen) but only shows a purchase next episode option when it is selected (which is not what I would like to happen)

I want to transmit the screen of my MacBook to these TVs so I can work in different apps, documents, code and watch movies. Is there any way to do this without Apple TV?

hopefully, this is the right forum, for this question because I have no idea who else to ask. I want my apple TV to control my TV and soundbar. This includes sleep/wake functionality as well as volume and mute. My soundbar can be connected by an optical cable or HDMI. As I understand it, optical cables are incapable of passing signals (on/off/volume), and only pass data. based on what I have observed this appears to be true. If I plug in the HDMI cable from HDMI2 on the TV to the HDMI3 port on the soundbar(Only port on the rear of the unit), it will turn on and off with the TV remote or the Apple TV remote and volume and mute controls work. The only issue is, when I turn on the Apple TV, it signals the TV and soudbar to wake and sends a signal for the TV to switch to HDMI1 (The HDMI port that the Apple TV is plugged into). The problem is that either the TV or the Apple TV is sending a signal to the soundbar, setting it to HDMI1. If I unplug the HDMI cable between the TV and the soundbar, just using the optical cable, and set up custom IR controls for the soundbar in the Apple TV remotes menu, I am able to adjust sound and mute, but there is no other connectivity. The good part is that the input does not change, but the bad part is that the Apple TV isn't able to turn on/off the soundbar. This has to be a common configuration. Has anyone else worked around this?

I would like to use a TV or other screen as a second monitor, not as a mirror, but a fully separate monitor the way it would work with an HDMI cable. I usually use an HDMI cable for this but I'd like to be unattached and move freely. I travel frequently and this would be very useful for me to not have to carry around a long cable with me everywhere. Something like the Chromecast would work, but it requires extra software as far as I know to be used as a full separate extended desktop. I don't know if this is possible, and am happy to buy some kind of dongle if it exists. The closest I know how to get to this currently is using the Chromecast dongle, which allows you to either cast a tab, application or your desktop (mirroring). Unfortunately it doesn't function as a fully separate desktop/monitor, so this isn't quite what I'm looking for.

I'm running the latest versions of software on both devices, and I've tried several HDMI cables that work for other devices (e.g. the cable that connects my PS3 to another TV). Restarting the TV, the Mac, and unplugging-replugging the HDMI cable at either end does nothing. Neither does hitting Detect Displays in the display preferences (which I'm only able to try because sharing the Mac Mini screen with my laptop works).

I connected my TV to the iMac last night. When I drag a program up to the TV the sound switches from my computer speakers to my TV speakers; I thought this was a great feature. However, when I wake up the computer the speakers are only working from the iMac. I know how to switch the sound back to the TV and how to play them at the same time, but I just can't get back to that smart audio feature (where the sound comes from the speakers within the display showing the program) that I appreciated so much the first time. I have scoured the web looking for answers and even called Apple support. How can I re-enable this feature?
