I saved a iWork Numbers document as a template (and if I look at the file's file information in Finder, the template checkbox is checked). I later opened this template document on computer A and filled in some values. I didn't even actively save it (but Numbers automatically saves document continuously). Next I opened the same template from computer B - and lo and behold, the values I had entered at A appeared on B!?!? I thought templates worked by forcing the application to create a new "untitled" document based on the template that you by default saved under another name than the template. In other words, if you double click a template in Finder ten times you will have ten identical documents in Numbers named Untitled 1 to 10 based on the template (e.g. with some values and formulas prefilled), but that doesn't seem to be the case. **How are template documents supposed to work? How do I achieve what I describe above - i.e., create untitled documents based on an existing document without altering the original file?**

How do I get Mail.app use a template?
It would be very convenient in macOS mail if upon clicking `Reply`, a simple template would: - insert a "Hi _[first name of recipient from original email]_," - add my signature - quote the original email at the very end (as usual) Any mail.app extensions (plugins) that do this one simple feature?

In the screenshot below, can someone tell me please how to shift the main text area to the left? How do you reduce the left margin in Pages' Business Resume template? From the ruler, one can see the text begins at about 6.7 cm. Changing Document Margins from the default 2.12 cm to 0 cm helps, but still a long way from 2 cm. No adjustment of text columns, tabs and indents proved fruitful. Similar in nature to https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/143545/how-to-move-section-change-section-margin-in-pages but this one is tougher — not even an Apple Support rep knew how to get around it other than to use "Convert to Page Layout" which removes body text altogether. Thanks to anyone's efforts to solve the mystery.

How to send predefined/canned SMS/iMessages?
Is there a way to prepare predefined/canned messages in order to quickly send them by SMS/iMessage on the iPhone or iPad? I find myself quite often using the same 4-5 templates: - *I'm in a meeting, I will call you later!* - *I'm on my way* - *Ok, drop me an email!* - *Is it a good time to talk?*

After downloading a template for my Keynote program, I can't seem to install it correctly so that I can utilize the 200+ slides that are included when I wish to add a new slide in the presentation. I have the latest software of El Capitan and the latest version of Keynote installed. This is what I have done so far: 1. Purchased "Eureka - Minimal Keynote Template" from this site (http://graphicriver.net/item/eureka-minimal-keynote-template/15099332) and downloaded files. 2. Folder downloaded is split up into different sub folders: 1 Documentation, 2 Presentation, 3 Vector Icons, 4 Double Exposure PSD. From folder 2 there are two files named Eureka - 16x9 - MAIN.key and when opening them in Keynote, on the left sidebar 200+ slides are displayed (these are all the slide templates that I wish to utilize when creating new presentations). 3. So I choose "Save Theme" and add it to the "Theme Chooser", but when opening it from the "Theme Chooser" I only get the two master slides - one white and one black" to choose from when clicking "add slide". 4. So I go back and check the Eureka - 16x9 - MAIN.key that I first opened, and see that when clicking "add slide" in this one, I also only have the two options of the black and the white slide here. screenshot of sidebar and So this is where I am puzzled - should not the template I have purchased when saved give me the opportunity of finding all the 200+ template slides in the slide navigator when I click "add slide"? This is what I want - so I can choose between the 200+ of them when creating a new presentation based on the template. So how can I do this? Do I have to save all the 200+ slides as master slides, and if so how do I do this? Or are there another solution? I have been googling for hours now, and all I can seem to find are that I have to add the downloaded file to /library/application support/Keynote/templates , but there are no /keynote/templates to be found in my library.

I am using Numbers '09. I defined (and saved within My Templates) a template of a very basic table format where all cells are formatted with Palatino: My_Templates If I simply hit ⌘+Xwithin any selected cell, immediatly the font of the cell is switched to Helvetica Neue: My_Templates after ⌘+X This magic font switching also occurs on some other operations (example: move of a block of cells). This is leaving cells with the wrong format. When I discover this format corruption I have to manually set the font back to the one I configured in My Templates. What could I have done wrong with my template? How may I avoid this behaviour?

Examples * Change the background color for ALL slides from grey to green. * Change all fonts from Copperplate to Garamond * Insert a company logo onto all slides simultaneously. * Change the default background to all text boxes to #6699EE There is a similar question but the accepted answer explains how to do it for ONE master. This question was asked once before, in November 2011. Has this situation changed?

**In short**, how do I make a Keynote template/theme with custom data (unique to that presentation) shown on every slide, and also support masters for a variety of layouts, **without the author needing to edit every master every time they start a new presentation**. From this question on setting a common background for all masters , I can see that Keynote does not provide the same "Inheritance of Masters" feature that Powerpoint provides, so every Master is effectively starting from scratch, and each slide can only use a single master as its base. My problem with this is that I want to make a template for my organisation that includes the following **metadata** on most (or all, if need be) slides: * A company logo — *an image, but the same every time* * The presenter's name — *different for each person* * A name for the presentation / event — *different for each file* * Logos/names of collaborators/sponsors/etc — *often different for each file* The problem seems to be that Keynote uses masters for slide layout *as well as* the theme, without allowing any separation of the two. If users are to have an easy way of getting a Title Page / Section Title / Single column slide / Two-column slide / etc, each of these need to be a fully unique master, with all the above information on it. This means the user needs to add their name + event name + logos to *every single master*, each time they start a new presentation. And if they miss one, then it won't be obvious but a few slides here and there (with that particular master) will have the wrong metadata. --- **Expected Solutions** — I'd expect Keynote to support something like the following, but it does not seem to... **Pages** has a feature that lets you "merge" information into the document (e.g. custom fields or from address book), which would be *perfect* for this, because you'd just set the metadata for the file once and never have to touch masters. **Powerpoint** offers "hierarchical" or "inherited" masters (not sure exactly what they call it), which means you can put the basic info common to everything on a single master, and then set up layout slides based on that master, so changing the event or author is at least a single edit of the master(s). Another method I can imagine would be to allow multiple masters applied to a single slide, so you apply the base for the metadata and then a layout master for the arrangement of titles/columns/images/etc. --- Keynote does not seem to provide any of these methods of achieving this... Have I missed something? This seems like a pretty poor design of slide masters to me. I'm hoping that this is just a case of Apple being too minimalistic in their design for me to have picked up the subtle, elegant solution... but would have expected it to match Pages so am not very hopeful.
