How to prevent Android from automatically downloading System Updates from the cellular network?
I've had Verizon's Samsung Note 5 for about 1.5 years. I've had Verizon's Samsung Note 5 for about 1.5 years. I don't have (and don't really want to pay for) an unlimited data plan so I use cellular data sparingly and use my home WiFi when downloading apps, updates, etc. This morning I discovered my phone had, on its own, downloaded the Android 7 system update using my Verizon cellular data. Previously, the phone would only check for system updates and then notify me that an update was available for download (at which point I would use my WiFi to download the update) How can one prevent Android from using the cellular network to download system (Android) updates without permission? (I tagged this as Marshmallow since that was the version that had the auto-download bug in it, but I want to know how to prevent auto-downloading of system updates in Android 7.0 also)

All of sudden when I was trying to use my note 5 (unroot), I noticed that it was powered off and I couldn't power it on with power button. Can you please tell me if there is a way I can recover data on my phone without losing them? I also have Google Authenticator which is connected to many accounts online, If I lose data I will lose everything! Here is what I tried so far: First thing I did was a soft reset ( power button + volume down) and the mobile turned on but unfortunately it kept looping on the Samsung logo screen. Then, I tried to go to recovery mode (power button + home button + volume up) and from there I tried "reboot system now", "wiping cache partition (which I hope it doesn't remove any data?)" and "Run graphics test: which failed with error no command and then wiping cached data" all of them without success. One thing I noticed in the bottom section of recovery mode there are these errors: ODIN MODE DOWNLOAD SPEED: FAST PRODUCT NAME: SM-N920C CA_ TYPE: CA_2 CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official SYSTEM STATUS: Official FRP LOCK: ON Secure Download : Enabled KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0 (0x0000) RP SWREV: B:5 K:0 S:1 Android Recovery samsung/nobleltejv/noblelte 7.0/NRD90M/N920CXXS5CRH1 user/release-keys No Support SINGLE-SKU Supported API: 3 dm-verity error... E: failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)

I've had three phones in the Samsung Galaxy Note line, a Note 3, a Note 5, and now for a few years I've been using a Note 8. I have enjoyed a keyboard on which I can draw a shape which has a vertex at each letter of the word I want to write, but I'm also perceiving that they're trying to make it smarter, to give it better capabilities faster than they can develop the algorithms that carry out the tasks. (Some problems I can identify with the Note 8 keyboard is that it is autonomously adopting typos as new words in its dictionary, coming up with new words to suggest or interpret what I draw as, and also sometimes, when I write "something" putting down "s something", repeating the first letter.) I would really enjoy it if I could upgrade from the native keyboard of my Note 8 to the keyboard which came with one of my earlier phones. Either would be good, though I think the first, that from the Note 3, would be best.

It all started with a factory reset on the stock Samsung ROM (Android 7.0). After I booted into the factory reset system I couldn't get the phone encryption to work: it failed with the message saying that the data partition is corrupt which effectively factory reset my phone again (forcefully). - Reflashing the official Samsung ROM didn't help, the phone kept showing me the same message about the corruption of the data partition. - Reformatting the partition in the TWRP didn't help either. Any ideas how to fix it? It could also be a hardware failure. I posted the same question on XDA but unfortunately got no response so far.

I am running a linux machine and trying to unroot my Galaxy Note 5. I've downloaded the lastest firmware from sammobile: N920IDVU4CRG1_N920IXSA4CRG1_XSA.zip which extracts to: `boot.img cache.img cm.bin hidden.img modem.bin recovery.img sboot.bin system.img` Then I've been trying to use heimdall like so: heimdall flash --verbose --BOOTLOADER sboot.bin --CM cm.bin --BOOT boot.img --RECOVERY recovery.img --RADIO modem.bin --SYSTEM system.img --CACHE cache.img --HIDDEN hidden.img The process finishes successfully but then when the phone reboots it hangs with an error: "**System UI has stopped**" I've previously executed heimdall print-pit to check the pit list. I noticed that there are more pit entries than the 8 provided in the firmware. I don't know if that's normal. I also tried using the pit file found on the forum with the same negative result: NOBLELTE_AUS_XSA.pit heimdall flash --pit NOBLELTE_AUS_XSA.pit --verbose --BOOTLOADER sboot.bin --CM cm.bin --BOOT boot.img --RECOVERY recovery.img --RADIO modem.bin --SYSTEM system.img --CACHE cache.img --HIDDEN hidden.img Same error. Is there something that I've been missing or done wrong? Many thanks :)

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 a few years ago, I remember I could connect my phone with my 8880 Samsung Smart TV. This connection was two way, I used screen mirroring so I could display phone contents on the TV, and I could watch TV programs on my phone. I even remember once my wife was watching TV and I watched another program on another channel using my phone (connected to TV). Unfortunately I can't remember the application names which provided these features. Its now two years that I have changed my phone with a Galaxy Note 5, and I have done all the upgrades. The problem is I can not do what I did with the old version of mobile set. I believe I don't have the applications, and I can't remember their names. By the way is there any way so I can screen mirror a video played using streaming (is not on my phone but it is online) on my TV? Because Samsung Smart View application just shares contents (videos/photos/music) which are stored in my gallery.

Automatically add installed app icon to first screen with space
I have 5 home screen pages in my Note 5. When a new app is installed, its icon is added to the last page and not the first one, even though there is space in the first page. Anyone know how to fix that so the shortcut will appear on the first page (or in the nearest page which has empty spots)?
