Is there any facility in Android that allows me to keep the control of that? Uncle Google isn't much helpful in that matter. Moreover I have two Skype icons per contact on my phone. And that the thing that hits my taste. Phone details: Sony Xperia S, Android 4.1.2

I'd like to know what Skype does with all the permissions it asks for. Is there any page where Skype (the company) justifies the various permissions? Does it make any difference, whether I'm a paying customer or not? The permissions are as following: * Your accounts - act as an account authenticator - Allows an application to use the account authenticator capabilities of the AccountManager, including creating accounts and getting and setting their passwords. - manage the accounts list - Allows an application to perform operations like adding, and removing accounts and deleting their password. - use the authentication credentials of an account - Allows an application to request authentication tokens. * Hardware controls - change your audio settings - Allows application to modify global audio settings such as volume and routing. - record audio - Allows application to access the audio record path. * Your location - coarse (network-based) location - Access coarse location sources such as the cellular network database to determine an approximate device location, where available. Malicious applications can use this to determine approximately where you are. * Network communication - full Internet access - Allows an application to create network sockets. * Your personal information - read contact data - Allows an application to read all of the contact (address) data stored on your device. Malicious applications can use this to send your data to other people. - write contact data - Allows an application to modify the contact (address) data stored on your device. Malicious applications can use this to erase or modify your contact data. * Phone calls - read phone state and identity - Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like. * Storage - modify/delete USB storage contents modify/delete SD card contents - Allows an application to write to the USB storage. Allows an application to write to the SD card. * System tools - disable keylock - Allows an application to disable the keylock and any associated password security. A legitimate example of this is the phone disabling the keylock when receiving an incoming phone call, then re-enabling the keylock when the call is finished. - prevent device from sleeping - Allows an application to prevent the device from going to sleep. - retrieve running applications - Allows application to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. May allow malicious applications to discover private information about other applications. - write sync settings - Allows an application to modify the sync settings, such as whether sync is enabled for Contacts. - modify global system settings - Allows an application to modify the system's settings data. Malicious applications can corrupt your system's configuration. More: * Your accounts - discover known accounts - Allows an application to get the list of accounts known by the device. * Hardware controls - control vibrator - Allows the application to control the vibrator. * Network communication - view Wi-Fi state - Allows an application to view the information about the state of Wi-Fi. - view network state - Allows an application to view the state of all networks. * System tools - read sync settings - Allows an application to read the sync settings, such as whether sync is enabled for Contacts. - read sync statistics - Allows an application to read the sync stats; e.g., the history of syncs that have occurred. * Default - modify secure system settings - Allows an application to modify the system's secure settings data. Not for use by normal applications.

**Making Skype calls through Amazon Fire TV Stick** I have a Samsung Smart TV which does not use Android; I thought all smart TVs were Android and the return date had passed. To get around this, what I propose is to use an Amazon Fire TV Stick. Amazon Fire TV Stick has a power USB port which I link to something [like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96jycuEMm2k) where a USB hub could be used to add a camera and microphone. I was wondering if this system would work to make video calls with Skype on Fire TV Stick. I understand that even if my TV was an Android TV, Skype has discontinued its services on smart TVs. However, I really want to know if this system would work because then I could also use it on other conferencing software like Zoom.

I have temporarily moved to a new university for a research project, and I'm now using their wifi Internet connection. While everything seems to work fine with the Windows 10 laptop, the Skype app on my Android phone keeps "freezing". What I mean is that although I seem to be connected and I can see my contacts, I cannot make nor receive any calls. Even if I turn off the wifi and use the mobile connection on the phone, the situation does not change. After many attempts, I have found out that if I logoff from the app and I login again using the mobile connection, the app starts working again. At this point I can even restore the wifi connection and everything works for a while. But eventually it freezes again... The weird thing is that this trick doesn't always work. Sometimes after I logoff from the Skype app I cannot login back even if I'm connected with the mobile data. I keep getting the error message "unable to sign in. Please check your internet connection". Also, if I try to login to my Skype account using Chrome for Android I cannot reach the page and get the message "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN". But everything else seems to work fine and I can browse other websites or use different apps. I understand that this might be due to some strange settings of my host university. While this is annoying, I can live with that. But what I really would like to understand, though, is why my phone behaves so strangely even when I'm switch off from the university wifi and I'm using my private mobile data connection...

I am having a weird issue. I am on Android 10 on my LG G6 and I haven't installed any doze control app or greenify type apps etc on my phone but whenever I receive any message on 3rd party apps like Whatsapp or Skype etc, many of notifications arrive on time but some of the messages arrive with no vibration and no sound like silent notifications. I haven't set any DND or anything. It's just clean install rom and I have also faced this issue at my official stock ROM Android 9. Same behaviour recorded in that as well. For testing I captured notifications and what I saw is some of the messages comes via silent channelID which is very strange for me as no settings applied. It's all random messages and same behaviour when I am using my phone so I believe it's not doze level thing. I am attaching screenshots of notifications log, please guide me what's wrong going on here. Thanks. **Screenshots:** https://postimg.cc/gallery/G3Tbjcg

The previous version of Skype 3.2 had an address book icon at the top right (as seen here) but this is missing in the new Skype 4 (as seen here). Is there no longer a way to call my phone's address book contacts without adding them as a Skype contact as well? I'd rather not set Skype to sync my contacts as I regularly jump back and forth between personal & work accounts.

On my Samsung Galaxy SIII when I view my contacts list in the Contacts application each contact entry has a list of small icons on the lower-right hand side corresponding to accounts where that contact is listed such as Skype, Google, WhatsApp, etc... as shown on the following screenshot (contact pictures and names have been scribbled out for privacy reasons, click to enlarge): Contacts app on Samsung Galaxy SIII Above the list of account icons, for some contacts either a green circle with a white circumference or an orange circle with two white clock hands and a white circumference appears in the upper-right hand corner of the contact entry in the list. Obviously green means available, and orange means away, but I am unable to figure out which of the three applications Google, Skype, WhatsApp, other, or whichever this dot corresponds to. First I thought that if the green dot was above the skype icon, then the contact was available on skype, but the last time I checked one of my contacts was associated with only one account, namely skype, but when I logged into skype the contact was offline. Can someone please help me figure out what the green or orange dots in the upper-right hand corner of contact entries in the Contact application mean? Thanks.

Skype showing me as online - after stopping app and even after device shutdown?

**Scenario A:** 1. start Skype 2. do some other work 3. shut down the Android device **Problem:** My contacts are still seeing me as being "online". Strangely enough there seems to be no heartbeat feature implemented in Skype. So even after 1 day my contacts are trying to call me - even though the device is powered off. Initially I thought this symptom would occur in case i forgot to manually quit the Skype app before shutting down the device. So i was searching for an answer how to configure Skype to *automatically* log off / quit when the Android device is *shutting down*? But now it turned out the situation is even worse: ***Scenario B:*** 1. start Skype 2. do some other work 3. quit the Skype app 4. shut down the Android device After step 3 I'm still listed as being "online". When a contact sends me a chat message it pops up. So it means: even though Skype no longer appears in the task manager it seems to be running as a secret, invisible background task!? And after step 4 the behaviour is the same as in Scenario A. I'm not transitioning to "offline" state. **Summary:** There seem to be 3 problems: - no heartbeat feature implemented in Skype - quitting the Skype app is not properly terminating / signing off - shutting down the Android device also is not influencing the online status **The only thing that works for me so far: You must switch to Skype, tap on your profile, at the very bottom *manually* do "sign out".** That's just not bearable. This is: **Android 4.1.2** **Skype 4.9.0.45564** **Skype 5.0.0.49715** **Skype 5.1.0.56619** **Skype 5.1.0.58677** **Skype 5.4.0.5871** (at least I'm now showing as being "Away" - instead of "Online") 2015-08-15 - the problem is back and it's even worse: **Android 5.1.1** **Skype 5.9.0.14047** Even though I'm manually signing out, terminating the app and shutting down the Android device I'm still being shown as being "online"!! -- All of the above tested @ Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (WiFi only) / GT-P3110
