I have followed [the instructions here](https://support.apple.com/guide/findmy-mac/set-up-fmm53101237/mac) to turn on "Find My Mac", but it doesn't work. I have a Macbook Pro 14 inch 2021, with MacOS 12.4 Moneterey installed. I alread had location services turned on, and then specifically enabled it for "Find My".
Now, when I go into Apple ID -> iCloud, and try to turn on "Find My Mac", I get a popup asking if I want to allow find my mac, and then for a second it says "Settin up..." ... and then nothing. See this GIF.
It looks like [someone else has had this exact problem](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253198831) , so I tried the various things in that post. Namely:
* I rebooted and tried again
* I booted in Safe Mode and tried, but got the same behavior
* I deleted various *.plist files, rebooted, and tried again
All without success. I should note that I also have looked on my other devices and they definitely can't see this Mac on the "Find My" app. So this is a real failure and not just a UI quirk.
(**Aside:** Is there a command line command or tool to enable these settings? I ask because, completely unrelated to this issue and on my work computer, I was able to fix an issue where I couldn't enable screen sharing with Google Meets by running a command line tool.... but that tool was only for Accessibility options.)
Anyway, I know this is a long shot but hopefully someone is out there who eventually sees this and can answer. I'm going to try to call Apple Support tomorrow and try my luck with them. If I find a solution I'll be back to enlighten y'all.

I am dealing with a company MacBook Pro model A2918 , M3 chip, made in 2023. The company terminated me, and I am trying to remove my personal data from it before returning it. However, the company locked me out of the machine and is refusing to let me back into it. They claimed they would wipe the machine when they receive it, but I don't entirely trust them and want to remove things on my end first.
Currently when I open the laptop, I see "This Mac is Locked. The System PIN is required to use this Mac." They have another admin user account on Mac OS and have Kandji MDM software set up on the machine. Not sure if this screen is from Kandji or something else.
I do have Find My set up on the device under my user account, and I do see the device when I log into iCloud on another machine, so could try to remote erase the device using Find My , but I'm not sure if that would be effective given the lock screen I am seeing.
Personal data that I want to remove includes:
1. Emails saved locally using Apple Mail
2. Calendar events saved locally using Apple Calendar
3. Passwords synced locally using 1Password 6
4. Files synced locally in Google Drive for desktop
5. Logins to various services (including Google) in Firefox, Chrome, and Mac OS (for Apple Mail and Calendar)
6. iCloud account
7. Contacts
8. iMessage conversations
I can remote log out from some of these things but am really looking for a single "erase" option at the OS level if possible. What are my options?

I do not have an iPhone, but I do have a Mac Book Pro. I recently shared my Mac Book's location with all my friends I had saved in my Mac's message's app (I have their iPhone numbers). I also asked them to share their locations with me. I can successfully see their locations (their iPhones), but they cannot see my location (my MacBook) on the FindMy app.
I'm not sure how to solve this problem, because my Location Services are turned on and I can see their locations. I can see my own Mac's location on Find My (it fully shows up), so its just all my friends that cannot see my location (on my Mac's messages app it says I have "shared my location" with them).
P.S: This is not too different from someone tracking their Mac and owning an iPhone simultaneously, so its not like this is some new situation. My cousins have their iMacs and MacBooks on Find My, etc.

The iMac I use at work has a standard user, belonging to an ex-employee. This person left the company so I would like to remove the user account from the Mac. I have an admin account.
The problem is that I can not remove the user without their Apple ID password because of the Find my Mac feature. I have contacted the ex-employee who deleted the Mac from their iCloud using an iPhone - proved with a screenshot.
But I still not able to delete the user, macOS constantly asking for the AppleID password. I have tried rebooting etc - nothing works.
What else I have to do to remove the account? I have tried factory reset the Mac, but that's not possible without the password either.
I can contact the ex-employee if further actions needed, but obviously I can not ask for the password...

Is it possible to add the Air Pods Pro headphones to the Find My app and devices in the Apple ID account on the MacBook? I've connected the headphones to the MacBook and can use them, but they won't show up in my devices in Apple ID and the Find My app, which is what I care about most. In both places I can only see the MacBook added, but the headphones do not. In the AirPods settings on the MacBook, I have "Find My" usage checked.

A friend said he could replace the screen on our 2015 MacBook Pro with Retina display. He sold the laptop to his cousin and we don’t know who or where he is, but he told us to pay him the money he paid to get it back.
I keep checking the Find My app but every time I check it says
> MacBook Pro *OFFLINE*
> ☑ Notify Me When Found
‘Notify Me When Found’ is checked. We’ve locked the MacBook Pro already but it says
> **Sound & Lock Pending**
> Pending actions will take effect when this Mac connects to the Internet
I clicked on lock again and it says
> Lock requested on February 26 at 6:34 PM
but don’t know why it still says the sound and lock is pending.
Other than the Find My app is there any other away that I can locate/track/find our 2015 MacBook Pro?
We have also been told that the person who has our MacBook Pro laptop still hasn't been able to get into the laptop, so not sure how to find the location, if the person has erased our Apple ID from it, or if it still has all our accounts and info still on it or not.

I'm sure this is for "Find My" services or other location-tracking services. I did not consent to this and need my computer to sleep. Aside from any ethical issues with this at the very least, it will drain my precious battery.
I appreciate any terminal commands or approaches to automating this task.

I have a special situation where I changed the e-mail address of my Apple ID from
erik.zivkovic@example.com
to erik@example.com
.
After a few years I now need to pass on my computer to a colleague because I am getting a new one.
The problem is, I wiped the computer clean and handed it to my colleague, but "Find My" is still attached to my old computer and my colleague can't sign in completely.
When he's about to sign in using Apple ID the computer says:
Title: Apple ID Password
Enter Apple ID password for "erik.zivkovic@example.com" to turn off Find My Mac.
That's my old Apple ID e-mail address!
But neither my old nor my new Apple ID passwords work to get past that screen.
What can I do to unstick "Find My" from the old computer?

Is there any way to wipe a MacBook Air that has Find My Mac disabled?
The issue is that my MacBook Air 2018 was showing a symbol X since May’23 after Ventura 13.4 upgrade meaning that the battery needs replacement and was running very slowly with the processor showing 80 % capacity utilisation without any load.Interestingly though diagnostics did not report any issue. The camera stopped working after upgrading to Ventura earlier.
I did some trouble shooting with Mac support and the local Mac book authorised support guys and they advised that the battery needs to be replaced.
Which I did.
Now after doing that within a weeks time the system stopped charging and now would not start.
The support centre is telling that the logic board needs replacement, which does not make sense to me.
Now in MacBook Air the ssd is soldered with the board.
I want to ensure that the memory is wiped clean before replacement.
Better still is there any way to make sure that the logic board has actually failed?

Which user(s) can activate erased Mac with their device password after Mark As Lost?

I have the following 3 users on my M1 Macbook Air 2020:
* userA: admin created during macOS installation, no AppleID connected
* userB: non-admin, its own AppleID connected, FindMy disabled
* userC: non-admin, its own AppleID connected, FindMy enabled
----
After I invoke
Mark As Lost
in Find My
iPhone app logged in with UserB's AppleID and rebooting into Activate Mac, I can Erase Mac
without providing any user credentials. After Mac is erased, I need to activate it:
* either by providing AppleID and password
* OR via Use Device Password
option
----
Now the question is:
**Which of UserA, UserB, UserC device passwords should be accepted for "Use Device Password"?**
----
**Some further details of my setup:**
UserC's AppleID is an adult, non-guardian member of family owned by UserB.
FileVault enabled during initial MacOS setup; encryption key not associated with any AppleID. Password reset using AppleID is disabled for all users.
----
**My own experiments** gave inconsistent results:
* after Mac was locked when UserC logged in, I managed to activate it with UserC's *device* password
* after Mac was locked when UserB logged in, I failed to activate it with *any of* UserA, UserB, UserC *device* passwords: error messages varied between:
* Activation lock server cannot be reached
* The password for this Mac can no longer be used to remove Activation Lock. The password was entered incorrectly too many times
Each experiment takes a couple of hours, so I hope there's official docs / third-party research on the topic.

Is there another reason that a macbook may show a time when it's not actively in use, or if its location is not being requested?

I'm testing the "find my Mac" feature at icloud.com and one of my Macs can't be found. The site reports "Online, no location available".
I've looked around a bit including at Apple's [TS 4006](http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4006) , which includes troubleshooting for this situation. So I'll mention that:
* Find My Mac is enabled on the Mac in System Preferences --> iCloud.
* The date and time zone on the Mac are correct.
* The Mac is connected to the internet via Wifi. Other Macs on the same Wifi network are found, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with Wifi location.
* Location Services is enabled in System Preferences --> Security & Privacy --> Privacy
* I am in the USA, where this feature should work (and as mentioned, *does* work for other Macs on the same network).
* I'm logged in to the same iCloud account on multiple Macs, but only the one Mac is not found.
Also, though not specifically mentioned in TS 4006 or on other sites that I've seen:
* The Mac does not have a firewall enabled
* The "Play Sound" feature of Find my Mac works. If I click on this at icloud.com, a loud annoying noise plays on the affected Mac.
* The affected Mac is able to determine its own location well enough to set the time zone automatically and identify the city I'm in.
* Web sites that ask for my location on the Mac (e.g. Foursquare) get the correct location.
Rebooting the Mac **does not have any effect** on any of this.
The Mac is a 2012 MacBook Air, running Mac OS X 10.8.5, with all current updates applied.

# Environment
- MacBook Pro 15" (Mid 2014)
- macOS 11.2.1 Big Sur
- Find My Mac gets activated for the first time on this device. There was no other user before ever, I bought it refurbed from Apple.com, and I do not recall that I have ever used that function before, but now I wanted to activate it.
# Problem
I did my initial setup of "Find My" on the Mac exactly as Set up [Find My on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac (HT210400)](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210400) describes, but in the process got a warning about "Wake for network access" being not active, although it was.
# Reproduction
Exactly as HT210400 instructs. Numbers correspond to my screenshot series:
1 ) Preconditions: System Preferences > Security & Privacy:
"Enable Location Services" is ON, "Find My" is also ON. All fine.
2a) System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud > Find My Mac is currently OFF. Toggle "Find My Mac" ON.
2b) In the dialog press "allow".
2c) "Find my Mac" not shows as ON but has a warning symbol and a "Details…" button. Press that button.
2d) Dialog informs that you need "Wake on network access" being active. Press button "Open Energy Saver". Btw an outdated label, the former prefpane "Energy Saver" in macOS Big Sur is meanwhile called "Battery".
2e) I get redirected to the prefPane "Battery". Activate "Wake for network access". In my screenshot session I already did so earlier.
2f) Go back to prefPane "Apple ID" and "Find My Mac" still shows an error due to missing "Wake for network access". Note: You can repeat cycle 2a-f as long as you want: The status icon is not refreshing properly as long as "System Preferences.app" is running!
3 ) In prefPane "Battery" I checked both sections "Battery" and "Power Adapter". Option "Wake for network access" is only shown in section "Power Adapter" and there it is on.
### Why is "Find My Mac" still complaining about "Wake for network access" missing, although it is activated?
# Solution
4 ) Quit "System Preferences.app". Restart it. Then go to: Apple ID > iCloud > "Find My Mac" now shows as ON and without any error symbol.

I have a Macbook Pro which I have just wiped the disk and reinstalled Catalina on.
I'm trying to enable Find my Mac, but in system preferences, under iCloud, the 'Find my Mac' checkbox is disabled with the message 'Find my mac is already in use'. Clicking on it asks for the login details for an old employee who left about a year ago ('Enter the password for example@example.com to disable find my mac'). We do not have access to his credentials.
I've tried resetting the NVRAM which has not worked (NVRAM is reset successfully but the issue persists).
It is odd to me that it is asking for these credentials after completely wiping the disk and reinstalling the system, especially a year after the employee left and his machine was handed over to someone else. Is there any way that we can resolve this without access to the account's credentials? We usually require devices to have some sort of 'find my...' enabled as part of our security policy, but we can't enable it without disabling the old one first.
