CONTEXT: a Samsung external monitor with a Mac.
PROBLEM: When text is selected with the mouse, it is almost impossible to see the highlighted shading that identifies the selected text. The problem is at its peak when the background is white in MS-Word or Safari: thus I believe this is system problem and not a problem in the Word / Safari.
GOAL: The default selected "highlight" color is "Graphite". I have temporarily changed the highlight color, however, I would like the Graphite option to provide sufficient contrast with white.
QUESTION: What is the process / steps called to adjust the settings to darken Graphite so an observer can clearly identify the mouse-selected (shaded) text?

I miss the old [*OmniDazzle*](https://support.omnigroup.com/omnidazzle-troubleshooting/) product from The Omni Group that let us transform the mouse pointer in a variety of ways, some silly but some quite practical. Worked well for highlighting areas of the screen to focus the attention of the audience during a talk or presentation.
I'm looking to make the mouse pointer more obvious, or darken the screen while keeping one region bright, or drawing colored crayon/marker lines, and so on.
**Accessibility features**
I'm open to accessibility features in macOS that could work to focus the audience’s attention.
**Keynote features**
Mainly I use Apple Keynote for presentations. If Keynote has dynamic tools for focusing the audience’s attention, that would be helpful.
I also show other apps such as programmers’ IDE s during a talk, so using it outside of Kenote is ideal.
**Other solutions**
Are there other ways or other apps to accomplish this goal?

Sync iBooks highlights, bookmarks, etc., without uploading epubs to iCloud Drive

In the past, it was possible to sync (i)Books bookmarks, highlights, etc., through the cloud, without turning on iCloud Drive for the Books app, or uploading personal epubs (not purchased from Apple) to iCloud Drive. Has this been removed from iOS?
Using iOS 9.3.6 for example, it was possible to do this by turning on Settings > iBooks > Sync Bookmarks and Notes, and Sync Collections, while having Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive > iBooks turned off. Books were not uploaded to iCloud Drive. The highlights etc. were synced using the Apple ID used for iTunes/AppStore/iBooks purchases, which is not necessarily the same as the Apple ID used for iCloud. Books could be synced from the Mac with a cable, with Books disabled in iCloud Drive. The Mac's Books Preferences > General > Sync: "Sync collections, bookmarks and highlights" is checked, and highlights and bookmarks were synced through the cloud, in real time.
I got a new device with iOS 15, and there is only Settings > Books > iCloud Drive, and Reading Now. Below this, it says "To enable syncing across devices, sign in to iCloud and turn on iCloud Drive in Settings". I haven't done that, but I think it will trigger the books that I synced with a cable from the Mac, to be uploaded to iCloud Drive, which I don't want. But I can't see how to get the highlights and bookmarks to sync without that - none of the books on the new device have their bookmarks.

When I want to highlight the first line of a page in any book in iBooks on iOS. it starts to move the page slightly, and won’t show the selection or the highlight.
Googling revealed that this is a “known bug”, and people typically go around it by changing the font size or otherwise changing the page layout so that the line they want to highlight is not the first on a page.
Now, okay, sure, the workaround exists. But what is the deal with this in the first place? It’s an old issue, and it feels more like a feature I can’t figure out. Perhaps the idea is that one could somehow highlight a phrase spanning two pages, and this weird interaction is a beginning of a workflow I can’t figure out. Maybe someone could give me a hint about what is going on?

When trying to save a file that already exists, macOS typically shows the "File already exists, replace it?" popup, like this:
In previous versions of macOS (like Mojave, High Sierra, etc) I was always able to choose either

Cancel
or Replace
**using the keyboard**.
However since Catalina, it doesn't seem to be working. As displayed in the screenshot above, the Cancel
button is highlighted by default. If I press the Return key it will choose Cancel
. However I used to be able to switch between Cancel
and Replace
by using the Tab key. But not anymore.
Also tried the cursor left and right keys (← and →) but to no avail.
This particular example is from macOS' default Preview app, but it's the same in pretty much any application.
Also in some applications I could previously use something like ⌥+Return or ⌘+Return to choose either the left or right option respectively (Cancel
or Replace
in this case) but that doesn't seem to be working either.
Is there a different keyboard shortcut or combination of buttons nowadays? Or do I really HAVE to use the mouse to choose Replace
?

Recently, I have had a problem with highlighting and adding notes in preview. When I highlight, the correct words show up highlighted in the document, but the side panel shows a set of words which is offset by some variable number of characters. Additionally, there is no way for me to edit my note in the sidepanel. And when I try to click on the yellow square of the note, it starts to appear and then disappears very quickly. So I can't actually see the note when I click on it. Sometime if I try clicking many times very quickly the note will pop up and stay and it will allow me to edit.
I have tried quitting/restarting preview; rebooting; many different documents from different websites. All have this problem now.
edit: Another symptom of the problem is that when I highlight text, I can no longer click on any links that were active in the text (e.g. an in-text reference).
Can anyone please help?
Similar to this question , but I'm not seeing duplicate highlights. Just offset highlights and unusable notes behavior.
I am running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I noticed on my new iPad that I can use the Pencil to highlight text (say, for copy/pasting), just like one can do with a finger. However, using my finger, while dragging the edge of the highlight region, I can be very precise about where I want the highlighted area to end. For example, I can make it end in the middle of a word.
But with the Pencil, this is impossible. The region always slides left or right until it reaches the end of a full word. This is a bit annoying for me since I am composing in LaTeX and often need to copy/paste parts of equations that begin and end in precise places that the pencil doesn’t permit.
The easy fix is to just use my finger, but I like the pencil. Is there a setting that can change this behavior?

Preview allows you to view annotations in a sidebar but I can't find a way to export them. I really want to create a .txt file of just the pdf's annotations.
Does anyone know of a way of doing this, either with Preview or another app whose annotations can be viewed on GoodReader and vice versa?

How do I use conditional formatting to highlight a cell in one column based on the value of another cell in another column?
Case in point, I'm running some tests right now. Based on input data into our server, we expect certain output from the server. I've manually calculated and generated expected output from this same set of input to compare against what the server is generating.
What I want to do is compare all of my results against what the server generated and highlight the cells that don't match. I'm using Conditional Formatting to do this, however, I can't figure out what to do within the Conditional Formatting feature to compare values from column XYZ with values from column ABC and highlight the cells in XYZ where they don't match. The number of values in both columns are the same so we can compare without fearing comparing 123 against an empty cell.
EDIT: Thanks for the answers thus far. What I'm trying to do is match results line by line so it should look something like the attached screenshot.

Is there a workaround or solution for the fact that Apple have made text highlight colour, in e.g. TextEdit and Preview (pdf with text) different from the colour used to highlight items in e.g. Finder and Activity Monitor.
The item selection colour is more saturated/muddier/darker.
A striking example is the difference between my preferred lemon Stabilo yellow (chosen from the colour wheel) for text which Apple couples to a nasty muddy mustard colour for item selection.
Amazingly few other complainants on net, but I have found one from 2002.
I've sent feedback to Apple, but no change or response, including up until 10.13 High Sierra Beta.
Are there workarounds or third-party apps to correct this unwanted colour disparity?
