It has nothing to do with reception, and I am always able to connect immediately back up. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening? Or at least explain to me what a PPP server is? Thanks.

I took it to Apple and they said the Wi-Fi card is fine, likely xfinity’s issue. But all other devices on my network stay connected with no problems.
Xfinity said my connection is great and the modem is fine.
I’m at a loss.

Will iPhone modem and cellular radio turn off if WiFi connected
Imagine an iPhone on a high speed train: the radio will burn extra power to find good signal, while transiting through poor service areas. If I connect the iPhone to the train’s WiFi, does the iPhone power down or at least throttle-back the radio in poor service area?

Does Apple make a modem themselves, that can be used with a Time Capsule simply and easily? If they don't is there a suggested one for a Time Capsule?
EDIT: I live in the UK, my ISP is TalkTalk and it is ADSL.

What does this do, as the iMac doesn't have an RJ11 port? I have no use for dial-up but I am curious. Thanks in advance.

* Headset on a 3.5 mm plug to my mac pro. (Do I need a splitter for mic and audio out?)
* Call display showing the number in an app, that I can cut and paste into a call log.
* Double click dialing.
I *think* I need a USB or internal card modem for this.

My Iphone 6s+ has been working fine on my rogers ignite wifi up until a week ago.. now I have been experiencing some odd issues.
Can't connect to certain sites - I can connect to google but I cannot connect to reddit/global news.
Can't connect to certain apps- I can connect to google home/whatsapp/youtube but no games
can't access modem from my Iphone6s+ browser
Safari says "cannot connect to server" if I try to go on reddit and if I try to access the modem from the safari browser, I get the following message: "cannot connect to internet".
I can't access the apple servers (to download from the app store).
I've tried:
restarting phone
clearing website and cache
resetting all network settings
restoring iphone (twice)
updating to newest OS
rebooting modem
resetting modem back to factory settings
The wifi works on all other devices (iphone 8/10/tvs/laptops) for downloading/reddit/mobile games.
I can use my iphone 6s+ mobile data/a different devices hotspot, to connect to reddit/app store on my 6s+ but it just won't work when I'm connected to the WIFI.
Does anyone have any ideas? This seems absurd... I've called my ISP and they said everything looks fine..
Sometimes, when I try accessing yahoo.ca from my iphone 6s+, it shows me a screen that says "This device is paused".. I've gone into the modem and it doesn't show this device is paused or blocked

At our home, we pay for 20 Mbps Internet connection to operator. On computers and tablets we get full speed via Wi-Fi, while on iPhone 7 and iPhone XR we gat max 2.7 Mbps. We live in apartment with maybe 20 different wireless networks.
1. We tried different channels - no change in behaviour on our iPhones.
2. We tried phones at our company Wi-Fi networks - we got around 17 Mbps there, so phone hardware is capable of receiving more data.
3. We bought new modem/router Asus DSL-AC55U which can stream also on 5 Ghz - still same behaviour.
4. We called with provider on the phone trying to change settings - no effect, still same behaviour.
5. we have tried on phones change DNS server to manual, we tried googles and others - still same behaviour.
I believe that there is problem with Wi-Fi settings. Anyone has idea how to resolve this issue?

I plan on establishing a PPP connection over that PTY (maybe PPPD, or any other solutions?)
However, even if I establish this PPP connection, I have no idea how to make it effective over the OS (so it doesn't use the WIFI or any other configured options such as Ethernet). This is the part I really have no idea how to setup. I took a look at possibly setting something up in System Preferences → Network but the remotely closest options are Bluetooth DUN, PPPoE, USB modem, but I don't know what I am doing at this point. I'll even have to learn to make this successful PPP connection. We will see.

I have a really peculiar problem. I noticed that while i was using my new macbook my touchbar would malfunction. for example if i attempt to use the slider to set the brightness, after about 0.5-1 seconds it will set the brightness to 0, volume to 0 and turn on zero even though i am just holding my finger down on where the slider is supposed to be. this also has a malfunction with tapping where it will occasionally tap the wrong button while I am tapping down.
I noticed that this problem disappears when i disconnect my ethernet from the usb c hub i have. I noticed that simply having my modem turned on doesn't cause this effect - my SBG6580 SURFBoard by Motorola must be actively sending internet.
I tried using both left and right sides of the port and with a different usb c hub and the problem is 100% replicated when using the ethernet with this port.
I bought a new modem from Arris and tried connecting to that and the touchbar bug disappears. I would like to keep using my old SURFBoard gateway but it seems like I am forced to use a new modem. Any ideas?

I recently bought a MacBook Pro Retina. The first day I was able to connect my Huawei E352 3G USB modem and it worked all the day. After a couple of day I needed 3G connection again, but my MacBook Pro Retina does not recognize the modem anymore. There is a micro SD card in it, and it also does not mount. The modem works with my iMac flawlessly. All the MacBook Pro Retina USB ports work flawlessly, and recognize any other devices (pen drive, Blu-Ray writer, USB 3 external hard drive).
Any ideas as to why the modem doesn't work anymore?

I "think" I understand that all firewalls are software. However, I am splitting the monthly internet bill with a roommate who has the ISP modem/router in his room. I would like add (if possible) more security measures. (I cannot get my own ISP in my room; as the house is designated as a “heritage house” and the landlord won’t agree to any “drilling”).
I have my macOS firewall turned on to “block all incoming connections”. I also use Tunnel Bear VPN.
Are there any recommendations (hardware or software) available considering my situation?

How can I connect this iMac to the Internet using dial-up? I know there's an option in
System Preferences -> Network
for the internal modem but do I need an RJ-11 to USB converter or can I just plug the RJ-11 into the RJ-45 port?

I've installed a Huawei-based "surf stick" (a USB stick with a mobile/wireless modem inside) as a backup internet connection in case my main connection goes down.
I've configured it as a PPP connection in the Network control panel.
All works fine apart from the fact that after a few minutes of idle time on this secondary network interface, the PPP connection gets closed by the system with the message that the connection was idle.
I like to disable this automatic "disconnection when idle".
Apple's support site has this to say about accomplishing it:
> Click PPP, and then make sure the “Disconnect if idle for __ minutes” checkbox is not selected, or if it is selected, increase the number of minutes that the computer can remain idle before disconnecting.
Well, this is how it looks on my system:
**As you can see, there is no such "Disconnect if idle" checkbox option.**
Where is it gone, how do I get it back? Or is there another way to control this setting, maybe with a

defaults
command?
This is on 10.10.5, BTW.
Also, I wonder why the "Connect automatically when needed" option is disabled. I've asked about this in the Apple discussions forum but didn't get an answer on that, either.
