New here and recently switched to Apple. I'm using a Macbook Air M2 (15") and iPad Air (2023). I have several very annoying and strange issues when using Sidecar (MacOS built-in feature which should enable me to use the iPad as a second monitor): - During use, my Macbook freezes frequently for several seconds (both video, mouse and keyboard become unresponsive); - During use, SideCard on the iPad totally freezes and I have to reconnect to get i working again; - Since replacing the Macbook (with the same model, to check if it was a hardware issue) I have to go all the way to monitor settings instead of just using the monitor icon in the menu bar. Any help is greatly appreciated! I use this intensively, so fixing this would really help me out. Thanks!

I’m working through the 2021 release of *Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a Book* for my digital imaging class. One of the lessons is on the Mixer Brush tool. I decided to connect my Mac to my iPad Pro using Sidecar so that I could use my Apple Pencil (I find it easier to use than my mouse for these types of tasks). It worked fine at first, but eventually I ran into an issue where my brush strokes looked nothing like what the textbook showed. I tried switching to my mouse, and it solved the issue. As far as I can tell, the input device is the only difference; the settings should be the same. I’ve included screenshots showing the results I’m getting and my brush settings. In case it helps, I’ve also added a couple of pictures of the relevant page in the textbook. Also, my Apple Pencil is the 2nd generation version. Can anyone tell me why I’m getting different results with the Apple Pencil? And how can I can fix it so that the brush strokes look the same as with the mouse? Thanks! *screenshot showing brush strokes:* brush strokes *screenshots showing Brush Settings panel:* Brush Settings panel *pictures of relevant textbook page:* relevant textbook page [Note: I wasn’t sure if this is the correct place to post this question, so apologies if it is!]

When I use Sidecar between my **M1 Air** and my **2nd Gen Ipad Pro 12.9"** at coffeeshops, I get near constant crashes and poor connectivity, whereas it works much better at home. I downloaded a wifi analyzer app to look at the network bands, and found that I only have performance issues when there is another local wifi network which projects on the same band as the network I am currently on. (using WiFi Explorer Lite) Network Analyzer So I bought a portable router, and manually configured the band to be 20Mhz and to be on a channel that ostensibly looks the clearest. For some time, this has improved my Sidecar performance, but it is still not perfect. Sometimes it will work perfectly after failing to start it several times, and others I will not be able to get it to work no matter what I do. I've noticed I always fail to start it if I have a Zoom meeting in progress. I had previously determined that Sidecar fails most when the ping is most unreliable. I did repeated ping tests and found that I have a really poor average ping at the coffeeshop I'm at as shown here: enter image description here I suspect Sidecar times out and crashes if the ping is too high, with a maximum shown here of 600Ms, and a 90Ms standard deviation for the packet ping, which is terrible. How can I make the ping more stable in a congested environment, and how can I get better Sidecar performance is congested network environments? Thank so much in advance! Sidecar is such a pivotal feature, if only it worked!!

I'm using Sidecar with iPad Pro 11 and MacBook Pro 15 2016. I noticed, that I could use Apple Pencil to interact with the interface elements on the second screen, e.g. open a new empty tab in Safari. However, in order to scroll the page, I have to use the "two finger drag" gesture. This is inconvenient and I'd like to use "single finger tap" gesture to interact with elements on the screen, so that it would simulate a mouse click. How can I achieve this result? The problem is that the switching between having a pencil on the screen or the two fingers is inconvenient and I'd like to either do both actions using gestures or with a pencil.

As far as I know this feature can work with wired connections as well and I tried connecting iPad to Macbook using a (Lightning -> USB A) to USB C adapter and also also tried using a USB 3 hub connected directly to the laptop using USB C and it still does not work. **Is there any way I could force Sidecar to work over a wired connection?**

When I try to connect my MacBook Pro (2023, M2, running macOS 13.2) to my iPad Pro (running iPadOS 16.1.1) using Sidecar via Control Center, the little screen icon turns blue without ever showing a loading spinner, and Sidecar never connects. I'm trying to avoid restarting my MacBook right this second so I'm trying to find out if there's a process I can kill/restart in order to get it out of its currently funky state. This started happening a couple of days ago over a wireless connection only (wired still worked), but now wired also doesn't work. I've tried issuing a kill signal to a few processes listed [here](https://gist.github.com/dmattera/883a4457b67534df795cdd0fa1651a26) , but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. $ launchctl list | grep com.apple.sidecar returns the following: 96786 -9 com.apple.sidecar-relay 21111 -9 com.apple.sidecar-display-agent So I tried killing them: sudo launchctl kill KILL gui/501/com.apple.sidecar-display-agent sudo launchctl kill KILL gui/501/com.apple.sidecar-relay Now the "Screen Mirroring" Control Center only shows the heading and "Display Settings...", so I'm trying to figure out how to restart it. I tried the following: $ sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.sidecar-relay.plist Warning: Expecting a LaunchDaemons path since the command was ran as root. Got LaunchAgents instead. launchctl bootstrap is a recommended alternative. $ sudo launchctl bootstrap /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.sidecar-relay.plist Unrecognized target specifier.

My wife is a nurse, and she - along with the other nurses on her ward - has been given an iPad Air with a keyboard case by her hospital for the purposes of charting. The issue here being that the keyboard in said case is A. notably smaller than a full-sized laptop keyboard, and B. heavier than my MBP, and C. sucks. But, since it's corporate hardware and does provide a disproportionate amount of armor for the device (as well as being SCREWED closed around the device), I'm reticent to just swap out the case and risk reprisals for her. The device's UUID is what is dictating her login, best as I can tell, so I cannot swap out the device itself. We're an all-Apple household/ecosystem, and she has an Silicon iMac at her desk now. I know it's possible to INSTALL an iOS app onto an M Mac, but is it possible to OPERATE one ON the iPad using her iMac? Can I mirror the screen or SideCar/AirBridge/Cast/Airplay/etc. to her iMac, allowing her to provide inputs using the iMac, and view the screen on the iMacs much-larger display? In short, can she use the iMac as a proxy to OPERATE an iPad app ON the iPad? **EDIT** Additional information: - It is an iPad Air gen3 - The iPad is secured with a corporate provisioning profile, which both precludes the installation of additional apps (apparently), and prevents her logging in with her own iCloud account (Ugh, as I type this, I think I'm answering my own question here). Is there a "docking station" hardware solution, perhaps? Like a port-replicator/KVM-style extension?

iPad Shortcuts ------ When connecting an external keyboard to an iPad (presently using iOS 16), the iPad accepts in certain shortcuts, for example: - Cmd+Space for Search - Cmd+W for Close Window - Cmd+H for Show Home **These shortcuts take precedence over all other inputs,** so far as I can tell. It may be possible for an app developer to override them while an app is in focus, but I haven't noticed that anywhere. **Goal:** Connect iPad Pro to Mac Studio via Sidecar, and use a keyboard connected to the iPad for keyboard input. *(I am presently testing with the iPad Magic keyboard & the Planck)* **The problem:** iPad shortcuts take precedence over sending keys to the Desktop while Sidecar is active. Thus when in sidecar it's **not possible to open Spotlight on the Mac using the keyboard shortcut Cmd+Space**, because the iPad intercepts that key combination and opens Search on the iPad instead. **Nor can Cmd+W be used to close windows on the desktop.** I searched the iPad keyboard and accessibility settings and found no possible way to disable these keyboard shortcuts. If anyone knows of a solution, or can think of an alternative method to achieve the above goal, please suggest below. **Note on Luna:** I am aware of the Luna device, and am also testing one for use here. While impressive, there are some gotcha's and annoyances; ultimately Sidecar feels like a better Desktop monitor companion, even with some of its other drawbacks. That is, if full iPad-connected keyboard control of the Mac Studio is possible, Sidecar becomes very powerful.

My workplace uses Cisco AnyConnect VPN (but I have seen same problems with other VPNs as well, eg. here ) and it seems to break AirDrop, Sidecar and similar Apple's local network services. While I am connected to VPN on my macbook, I cannot AirDrop files to my macbook, and Sidecar doesn't start (shows a timeout error after a while). When I disconnect, everything works again. Is there a know set of things (ports, port ranges, network broadcasts?) I could change or enable in VPN settings so that the 'Apple stuff' would still be routed to a local network at home? It seems that now everything gets routed into work VPN. Thanks! I googled, but so far found only threads asking for help, with no solution.

I also posted this question on Apple's discussion forum but as specific display-related questions seem to get few responses there, I thought I'd try here as well.

I use Sidecar with a 2019 16" MBP (Monterey 12.1) and an 12.9" iPad Pro (iPadOS 15.2). The connection is over USB with an Apple USB-C Lightning cable. When I unplug the iPad, all networking connectivity on the Mac is lost. This happens 100% of the time. The iPad will display "Lost Connection. The session will resume automatically when the connection improves." There's a button to "Disconnect". The disconnect button doesn't do anything and reconnecting the cable doesn't resume the connection. At this point, the iPad will no longer reconnect with Sidecar. Mac apps with network connectivity begin to hang. The spinning beachball starts to take over. I've tried shutting down the network adapter in Terminal using sudo ifconfig en0 down but then Terminal hangs. The Mac requires a hard reset. I've looked in the logs but I haven't been able to identify anything that could be related. I also don't know what the Sidecar system is called to refine my search for log entries. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue? Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?
