iCloud two-factor authentication on OS X Yosemite
I have 3 Apple devices, an iPhone and iPad both running iOS 11 and a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite 10.10. On the iOS devices I am getting alerts to enable two-factor authentication for my iCloud account. Will enabling it restrict me from accessing my iCloud account on my MacBook Pro?

How to connect iOS Mail app to Gmail with two-step verification

This is an issue that I run across every time I modify my two-step verification settings in Gmail or set up a new phone. I've asked this question to Google enough times. Now I think I'm qualified to ask it to myself. If you've set up Gmail as your default Mail app account and you use two-step verification , then Mail won't work if you haven't properly set up your device (and you might not even know it's not working if you're using the Gmail app as your main mail app until you try to share via email something in another app and realize it never gets sent). There doesn't seem to be a simple user-friendly answer to this problem out there, so after running into this issue and solving it yet again, I figured I'd write out instructions for others to follow.

I've been working through the various settings & MDM profiles needed to allow & enforce smartcard behaviors in macOS Ventura. I'm seeing a behavior, though, that I'd rather change - specifically, when enforceSmartcard is enabled, while the paired smartcard is required for login, if an activity requires authentication after that, macOS defaults to requesting the account password, not the smartcard PIN. It only requests the smartcard PIN if the activity is an admin prompt. The specific activity where this becomes problematic is with the [Privileges app](https://github.com/SAP/macOS-enterprise-privileges/wiki/Managing-Privileges) , which has an MDM configuration flag to RequireAuthentication, but the macOS APIs that are available to do that seem to only flag the regular password authentication (specifically [LAContext evaluatePolicy:kLAPolicyDeviceOwnerAuthentication](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/localauthentication/lacontext/1514149-canevaluatepolicy)) . Is there any macOS configuration or command-line tool that does this? I haven't found any appropriate utilities from Yubico, either.

Ability to add non-SMS non-Apple 2FA to an Apple ID?

I would like to add non-SMS, non-Apple multi-factor authentication to my Apple ID. 1Password TOTP I'm most interested in using a "code generator"-type [Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_One-time_Password_algorithm) based on [RFC 6238](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc6238) implemented by client apps such as: - Google Authenticator - Microsoft Authenticator - Yubico Authenticator - Authy - 1Password - LastPass - etc. I do not see any such option. Is this type of authentication available for Apple ID? I would also be interested in adding YubiKey or other similar hardware "security keys". Or any other non-SMS, non-Apple multi-factor solutions. --- Note: I *am* able to add Apple's proprietary ["two-factor authentication for Apple ID"](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204915) integrated within iOS and macOS as an alternative to SMS-based ["two-step verification"](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204152) . This question is asking instead for a 3rd-party-compatible two-factor mechanism that **does not involve using an Apple device signed in to iCloud**. --- Related: - [Does TOTP in 1Password work with Apple ID? ](https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/41950/does-totp-in-1password-work-with-apple-id) - [Developer Apple ID’s to Require Two-Factor Authentication](https://mjtsai.com/blog/2019/02/14/developer-apple-ids-to-require-two-factor-authentication/)

I've done a bunch of googling and I find it difficult to find answer to this question. Here's the story. I had Google Authenticator set up on my iPhone. I used it to verify login for a bunch of accounts, including crypto accounts like Coinbase, Kraken and Nexo. Then my iPhone spontaneously died. I have a new iPhone now. How do I set up the Google Authenticator app so that it recovers those linked accounts? (Coinbase, etc). I'm not sure if I'm wording this correctly, so forgive me. I have my Google back codes. I would think that those could be used to login to the app, no? And to recover my accounts?

My Apple-ID (e.g., on https://appleid.apple.com/ ) is set up to require entry of a 6-digit code sent to my registered Apple products. This code is being sent to the **same** device I'm currently requesting to log in. I feel this absolutely defeats the purpose of this 2-Factor Authentication: If a person knows my password, this person can receive the code on that device, and access my apple account without any problems. Is this a bug or can I set up / change how this security step works?

Apple now requires [two-factor authentication](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204915) on all Apple Developer Program accounts: > In an effort to keep your account more secure, **two-factor authentication will be required to sign in to your Apple Developer account** and Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles starting February 27, 2019. This extra layer of security for your Apple ID helps ensure that you're the only person who can access your account. If you haven't already enabled two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, please learn more and update your security settings. discussion about that change is aggregated here: https://mjtsai.com/blog/2019/02/14/developer-apple-ids-to-require-two-factor-authentication/ --- This requirement presents a problem for people who are signed in to a personal Apple ID on their devices, but who use a separate company Apple ID for their Organization Apple Developer Account. Ideally you could use a generic 2FA code generator, but that is not currently possible for Apple ID: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/343309/ability-to-add-non-sms-non-apple-2fa-to-an-apple-id --- ### Can a single device generate 2FA verification codes for multiple Apple IDs?

Currently, I am still able to use iMessage from macOS. My iMessage account is connected only to my phone number, not my email address, and I'd like to keep it that way. My Mac and iPhone has two-factor setup, so you confirm stuff with the other device other. Since I now don't have an iPhone, how do I disable two-factor **without** breaking iMessage or anything?

I'm experience some issues with my Mac Mail on my MacBook Air. I hasn't been there all the time, as far as I can remember it started around Yosemite. In my mail, I've two accounts. One is my work mail which is an IMAP for Google Apps gmail and the other is my private mail which is just a standard Gmail, also with IMAP. On my private mail I've two-factor turned on, while this is not the case with my work mail. Now, seemingly random my Mac Mail gets non responding and I've to hard quit it and reload it. It has something to do with the synchronizing and my private mail but can't seem to figure out what. I hope someone has a solution or has experienced this before and know what to do. I rather not turn of two-factor of my private Google account if I can avoid it. Cheers

I have recently activated two-step authentication for my Yahoo! e-mail account. I am now no longer able to use iOS Mail (on iPhone) or Apple Mail (on macOS) even though I have created third-party app passwords as recommended by Yahoo!. The error messages read "Invalid Password. Please try again." (in Settings | Mail | Accounts | ...@yahoo.com | Re-enter Password) and "Wrong Password. Try again." for iOS Mail and Apple Mail respectively. So how can I successfully configure Yahoo! third-party app passwords into iOS Mail and Apple Mail?

I click 'Continue', then 'Continue' for the 'Turn On' Radio button, a loading icon rotates for several seconds, then I'm back at step 1 and nothing appears to have happened. Is bluetooth tethering 4G too slow an Internet connection for this feature to function? Is there a server connection problem so that I must use a different Internet connection? What is the problem? Two days ago, on Wi-Fi, I tried and instead was getting a six digit code to enter, but despite entering it properly, was told to try entering it again. Both SMS and phone call six-digit code gave the same error, 'try entering it again'. Now I'm not even getting to that step. What is the problem? What is the solution?

This is actually a question for a friend. I little back story. She bought an iPad here in US & then took it to Sweden. She registered it with her then Swedish cell phone. About a few months ago she came back to US and tried to access it. Evidently because of a different country the iPad then asked her to enter a PIN that it wanted to text to her Swedish phone. Unfortunately she gave up that cell phone number when she left Sweden (or in other words, she doesn't have access to her old Swedish phone number that the text with the security code was sent to.) She says that she tried to guess the code but now the iPad had completely locked her out. Is there any way she can get into that iPad now? PS. She went to an Apple store but they needed a proof of purchase. She doesn't have a receipt anymore. She paid for it in cash about 2 years ago.

I am quite the predicament and my Google searches have not been fruitful at all. I have an iPhone 5 that has now decided to not go past the Apple logo and won't turn on. It appears the battery is swelling and pushing the screen out. I have borrowed an iPhone 6 off a friend and have restored an old backup from the 5 which was fine. I travel a lot and as a result have different SIM cards (many) in various places. At some point I have accepted the 2 stage authentication process with Apple but now have no idea what the phone number is attached to this process and did not make a note of the recovery code (or cannot find it anywhere). I attempted to log in using my Apple ID and have subsequently been locked out. I do not know the phone number to unlock the account. I have phoned Apple support and they advise I need that phone number. My iPhone 5 is the only trusted device I have other than my Macbook but feel even if I gain access it will advise my account is locked and need to know the trusted phone number to unlock. The Find my Phone is switched on so I cannot even do a restore on the phone using iTunes unless this is deactivated and again needs the apple account unlocked. I am at a complete loss and have no way of accessing all the necessary areas to set the new phone up. If anyone has any experience with this or knows a workaround I would be most appreciative.
