Obviously, I have inadvertently changed some setting, but can’t figure out what.
I use K9 with 6 accounts, none of which have previously used encryption (I would prefer to – my correspondents wouldn’t). Suddenly all of them, when I try to compose an email have a red padlock at the top right and a tooltip appears at the bottom saying
> “Cannot connect to crypto provider; check your settings or click crypto icon to retry”.
On the individual account settings, and also on global settings, the Cryptography tab shows :
- OpenPGP App - None
- Show unencrypted signatures – unchecked
- Autocryptography Mutual Mode – unchecked.
I cannot find any other cryptography options and do not remember changing any. What *might* have caused it (a very slim chance, but I can think of nothing else) is that it first occurred when I used FireFox Focus, which is privacy oriented and always runs in private mode, to share a link to a web page. Perhaps that changed some setting?
Well, it doesn’t really matter how it happened, but now I cannot send any mail without this error message.
How can I disable cryptography in K9?

I'm trying to setup my Gmail account in K-9 Mail, but when I'm setting up the incoming server, I keep getting the error: "Wrong username or password". When I'm trying to set up an outgoing server, I get an error which directs me to the two-step verification at Google.
I have 2-step verification configured on my Google account, but can't seem to get this into K-9 Mail. I've searched all over and tried following different guides, e.g. [this question](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/29193/firm-gmail-i-e-google-apps-email-with-k9-email-program/29197#29197) , and I've also tried to change the password on my Google account but nothing helped.
How can I properly configure K-9 Mail for my Gmail account with 2-step verification?

I have installed K9-mail in my android phone and mapped my 2 email accounts. When I open the K9-mail app, it opens without asking the email account password.
But I want to make the settings to always ask for the password before it opens an email account in that app and before its sync with the respective servers.
I have Thunderbird on my desktop and have this setting, which always prompts me for a password for the respective email accounts before it syncs (connect to email server). Could anyone help with this, please?

This morning I woke up to the alarm on my phone, as I snoozed it I noticed that the Total Commander player had a notification open, with an audio file open but on hold.
When I tapped on play I got the Total Commander warning about Stagefright and asking me to confirm I really wanted to play the file, to which I answered no.
In the process I unfortunately also involuntarily closed TC before I could fully see what the file being played was, but I noticed it was from a fsck.k9 folder (so like an attachment I guess).
However I haven't received any audio files in attachment in the last few days and data, wifi and bluetooth were all off during the night.
I have done a scan with Bitdefender which hasn't evidenced any malware. I haven't installed any suspicious apps recently.
Any ideas of what could have happened?
Edit: Android 5.0.2 on a Moto E
Edit2: I do use K-9 for email (hence my reference to audio attachments)

I have reason to believe that my Lineage OS (14.1-20180620 nightly build) may be infected with malware. How should I deal with this?
Other questions recommend running Malwarebytes. A question asking about typical malware techniques did not receive an answer.
**Details:**
With K9 mail I opened an Email that contained what appeared to be a png image and a link to a jar file (yniaaa.jar) hosted on doko.moe (an url known to be used for malware distribution) but showed only plain text (and not very much of it). This was followed by strange behavior of the K9 mailclient (it did not show all emails any more; in the webmail interface all emails were still present).
A google search for any of these details (file name, url, sender email address (probably forged, but still)) does not turn up very much.
I do have a backup of the email (But I do not know how to investigate it safely).
**Possibilities:**
* Uninstall K9 (obviously)
* Change all passwords (obviously)
* Wipe everything, reinstall everything (disadvantage: it is inconvenient and currently impractical)
* Find out what kind of malware it is and what it does since it may have sent emails in my name before the password change took effect? (disadvantage: I do not know how to do that.)
* Run Malwarebytes (disadvantage: will this find and remove everything?? I do not know how it works. EDIT: I also do not understand it. In my case it does nothing besides running a really really dumb animation and show a welcome screen.)
* Remove any leftover data of K9, reinstall then (disadvantage: 1. I do not know how. 2. Lineage itself may be compromised. I do not know anything about malware on Android/Lineage. From the abscence of root passwords etc, I assume that security standards are in general very very very low.)
* Inspect the system with adb (disadvantage: I do not know how)
**Versions** Lineage OS (14.1-20180620 nightly build); K9 mail: version unknown (I uninstalled it before I thought of checking the version number. I do not know how to check the version number after the uninstall is complete.)

Is K9 actually insecure? Or is Google just being stubborn?
Note: what I really want is a way to check gmail without tying the gmail account to my phone -- I have two gmail accts that are tied to short-term employers. I do want to see email to those accts but I don't want either acct tied to my whole phone. Ideally I'd read all my email from my various accts in K9, but I'm open to an alternate fix that allows me to read gmail without connecting my whole phone to the acct.

I am using K-9 Mail on Android and have set the SSL option to 'SSL (strict)'.
My understanding is that with this option K-9 definitely requires a valid SSL certificate which is issued by a trusted CA, i.e. no self-signed certificates.
What I am wondering about is whether K-9 actually evaluates the CN field in the certificate, i.e. whether it only accepts a certificate as valid and trusted if the CN and the mail server's DNS name match. This is IMO a fundamental requirement in order to not fall for MITM attacks. If K-9 did not match those, in the worst case K-9 would accept any (wildcard) certificate presented on the condition that is has been signed by a trusted CA.
Has anyone tested/confirmed/verified that this is not the case?

With K-9 Mail, could you please advise if it is possible to have these mail fetching settings:
1) Polling every hour, both when interacting with the app and when running in the background.
but also:
2) Pushing all folders only when interacting with the app, but not when the app is just running in the background.
The reason for this is that I like push to update folders promptly when interacting with the app, but don't want to have unnecessary push connections open in the background. However, I still like to poll in the background to be notified of new messages periodically.
I am using a Gmail IMAP account on a tablet running Android 5.0.1.
I have read through the documentation and been through the settings but would just like clarification on the above points.

I'm using the GPG Mail plugin on my computer (Mac OS X 10.8) and can read and write mails just perfectly.
Today I decided to setup PGP on my phone. It's rooted and runs the ParandoidAndroid 3.55 custom mod. I did the setup as shown in this guide: http://cariadus.com/blog/2010/07/how-to-set-up-your-android-phone-to-enable-sending-pgp-signed-emails-to-nominets-automaton/
and everything went fine.
I can encrypt and decrypt mails sent from my phone (to myself). BUT, here is the problem. As soon as I send myself (or got a mail from a friend) that wasn't sent via K9-Mail and Android it doesn't recognize the signature. FOllowing screenshot will explain:
It shows me the attachments but the usual "Decrypt" button that I get from mails sent from my phone itself doesn't show up. I update my public key + the public key from the friend that sent me a mail from the keyserver and have both of them stored in APG.
Well, I hope you understand my problem now and have advice on what I can do to fix this :P Thanks!

I have switched from the Gmail app to K9Mail yesterday because I needed multi-folder sync. However, I'm having trouble replicating the folder contents from my Hotmail account in K9Mail, a problem I didn't have with Gmail.
The folders not correctly replicated in K9Mail are the "special" folders Drafts, Deleted, Sent, and Junk.
I have found settings to set the special folders in the app, but they always appear to be empty. If I move an e-mail to "Drafts" in K9Mail, it does in fact create a new folder on the server, which happens to have the same name as the Hotmail draft folder.
On the other hand, if I put something in the Hotmail drafts folder, I cannot seem to access it at all in K9Mail.
Is this a shortcoming I have to live with, or am I missing something here?

IMAP forwarding show IP address to Google servers?

Clicking "Accept Key", however, make the same dialogue come up again and again in a loop.
What is the problem? Can it be that k9mail is unable to add the key to the cert store? How to debug this?
