I was wondering how the water damage sensors work in Android phones? Water can irreparably damage the components and requiring entire component replacement. However, if I were to take an existing device that is prone to water damage (or at least some of its components are), and fill the back casing with water proofing gel ( the ones used to cover traditional electrical connections and solidify shortly after), will the gel before solidifying cause the same effect as water damage , given its higher viscosity ? Although my DIY plan may not make the device entirely waterproof (such as being able to submerge the device in bodies of water), at least it makes it water resistant enough to torrential rain where I live in. I would imagine that could hold the connector cables and battery robustly in place as well, with having to dig the solid gel for battery replacement. There also seems to be no videos online doing benchmark tests and experiments on devices

YouTube update enforcement bypass? +Reasons why the old YouTube app is superior

The time bomb of YouTube's legacy versions has exploded:
**The *“later”* button to postpone the update has disappeared.** YouTube is copying WhatsApp's update mesh. I really wish to keep using a legacy version of YouTube's Android application, but now, YouTube has pulled the plugs by **hiding the “update later” button.** ### Why have they disabled it in first place? The application would probably still work technically. ## Advantages of YouTube's legacy versions: - **Unlimited search history.** - Exiting search does not require to reload the results of the previous search or viewed channel/playlist/feed/etc., which saves time and occasionally mobile data. - I still had search terms from 2015 because I never updated. Search history with capitalization saved. - Profile pictures with the shape of a square. Superior field of view. - Less minimalism, more border lines. (I personally dislike minimalism.) - Free from material design. (I do not hate material design, but the rounded corners look loose. Windows 10's flat design is OK becaubecause it looks still very angular. Although, I like the ripple animation of mterial design.). - Full numbers instead of rounded numbers (YouTube calls them “abbreviated numbers”. Toxic minimalism) for ratings, view counts and suscriber counts. **Rounded numbers** are too shallow. (*“2M”* looks shallow, while e.g. the number “*2.021.435*” looks vibrant and ultimately *sexier* than a digit with one letter behind it. Additionally, “2B” can be confused with 28 on the first sight, while a a long number such as 2.039.721.486 looks truly unmistakenably immersive.). - Ability to pre-open videos from loaded search results before Internet connection has been established, so that I do not need to open it **when** the connection has established. - Ability to pre-open search pages too. Pre-opening searches saves the search query into the search history, so that I do not forget searching it the next time I open YouTube's app. Like a tiny sticky note. ### How do I keep using the legacy versions of YouTube? I know MixerBox, but MixerBox has no search history and multi/pop-up window support.

App solutions are fine** As a last resort, root solutions are acceptable. You can find a list [material icons](https://material.io/tools/icons/) linked in [Android Developers](https://developer.android.com/design/downloads) . This [SO question](https://stackoverflow.com/q/34755666) tangentially addresses but with no solution. Even on this site, it would be far easier to explain using symbols, instead of cut-copy-upload-resize

I'm confused, while I'm trying to understand the new Gmail "compact" style user interface. This is the view, where left to the email's 2-line representation a checkbox can be found. I can't really grasp the UI presentation of "selection". Please, take a look at these four screenshots. 1. **Selected and checked** >selected and checked 2. **Selected but unchecked** >selected but unchecked 3. **Checked but unselected?** >checked but unselected? 4. **Selected and unchecked, but different from (2)** >selected, unchecked but different from 2 It is clear (from the operation appearing at the upper part of the screen), that 1, 2 and 4 are selections. Why is the UI different in these cases? Also clear, that 3 is **not** selection... but a checkbox has a mark in it, and it normally *used to* mean selection for further operation. So I'm totally confused, what the UI tries to tell me. Could you please shed some light on what - checkbox (marked and unmarked state) - colored background - thick, and thin frame of the checkbox mean in the context of email selection?

With the introduction of Material Design in Android Lollipop, a consistency in app design was received quite well by the user community. However, most of these apps are showing their Material designs only when the Android version is 5.x. Is there any way to make these display the same way in Android 2.x to 4.x? I mean, can't the design libraries be backported to older Android devices by embedding them in-app, so that the consistency is maintained across all Android versions? I have heard about apps or more specifically, Xposed modules like Monster UI which theme your device to look like so, but System Apps aren't affected. Can't such libraries be included in pre-packaged System Apps? For example, a normal app uses the Holo theme in Android versions 4.x, and the Material theme in 5.x. Can't it be made to use the Material theme in older devices?

I have no idea whether this question is on-topic or off-topic here, because it is related to problems with an Xposed Module. Moderators, please tell me if this is off-topic or not. I'm running on an AOSP-based Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ROM, rooted and having Xposed Framework. I have GravityBox, Tinted Status Bar, XBlast Tools, etc. and many other modules installed on my device, including the Monster UI module, which themes my device framework to make all apps look like having Material design (checkboxes, progress bars, ripple effects, etc). I have applied a system-wide Material design colour scheme, including dialog boxes and action bars for apps which were using Holo themes, all through Monster UI. On top of that, to get the full Lollipop effect, I have used the Tinted Status Bar module to tint the Status Bar according to the app's Action Bar colour. When I launch any app's main activity, it works fine, and tints the Status Bar accordingly. But, when I switch back and forth across various activities in the app, the Status Bar gets tinted White, and sometimes that makes the Action Bar turn white too, rendering the text/icons which both were supposed to display, invisible. How do I fix this ? Note : All modules work perfectly, and none are conflicting with each other. I checked MANY times for any such conflicts, but there were none. Disabling other modules too didn't work out.
