Is it possible to deactivate Motoblur sync and undesirable services on Motorola Defy like:
-
FeedRecieverService
- NewsRecieverService
- WeatherService
(all lanched by app.
)
Because I really don't care about Weather, news, feed, and must of all, I HATE this Motoblur account who "backup" my personal data without any possibility to limit him : It's just here, in the top of the synced accounts, with a little lock to the left...
If it's possible to do that without rooting the device or install a custom rom, it's for the best: I'm looking for the less intrusive method.
Thanks by advance for your help.

I have a T-Mobile branded Motorola Charm (MB502) phone that I bought for my wife. It's a capable little device, but it's being slowed down to a crawl by MotoBLUR. I'd like to know if there is a way to remove all BLUR software, preferably by overwriting the firmware with a de-blurred version.
It's been updated to the latest firmware and rooted via SuperOneClick. Here are the relevant details from the phone's "About" screen:
> System Version: Blur_Version_2.3.9007.MB502.T-Mobile.en.US
> Model number: MB502
> Baseband version: EPU93_U_03.3B.02
> Build number: BASIL_U3_03.90.7
I know of at least one de-blurred version that can be flashed with RDSlite, from and-developers.com . Unfortunately this version "BASEM_U3_01.12.4" doesn't work on T-Mobile Charm and (almost) bricks it after flashing, requiring a re-flash to the base T-Mobile sbf. Also, on xda-developers thread a dev managed to build a working version of Clockwork Recovery for the Charm. However, there are no ROMs available for it yet.
So my question is this: For the lack of any 3rd-party ROMs, is there a way to safely remove all BLUR apps and references from Charm?

I have purchased a Motorola Defy some time ago, and imported my address book from my old featurephone using the SIM card.
Under Settings / Account now I have two accounts listed in the Motoblur section (the motoblur account and an email account), and one account listed under Other accounts (the gmail / google account).
Now I would like to sync all contacts to the google account, but it won't: it has synced only the new contacts I added, but the old contacts are in the telephone only. What is the correct way to sync contacts to the gmail account?
I am running official froyo firmware, french version.

Droid 3 Gallery Generating Errorneous Thumbnails; Possibly Due to Infinite Loop, .nomedia glitch?

I have a stock Motorola Droid 3 on Verizon. The device is not currently rooted. I am not sure if the Gallery app on my phone is specific to the Motoblur UI.
I was testing the
.nomedia
trick/hack, by putting a zero-length file named .nomedia
in my Downloads directory. I also cleared cache and deleted app data of the stock/standard Gallery app. it didn't appear to work, so I decided to say "screw it" and deleted the .nomedia
file.
Sadly this kind of ruined things. I reopened the gallery app started showing duplicates of most (but not all) of the images. If I clicked on one, it'd only load the thumbnail with just "loading..." ontop, like it was trying to generate the full sized image. If I long-pressed and clicked "photo info" gallery would crash. If I hit delete, it would delete the entry from the gallery view with no problem. The other one of the duplicates appeared to be the real image so it loaded no problem.
Now, I could've manually deleted all the extra erroneous thumbnails, but that would be too time consuming as I had over 600-some correct images. So I decided to try a shortcut. I went to /dcim/.thumbnails
and cleared the directory and I also went to /android/data/com.moto.blur.mediaprovider
and cleared the thumbnails stored in that directory. When I went back to the gallery the situation got even worse. Now there's like 3 copies of the images.
My prediction is that it's generating thumbnails, then generating thumbnails of those thumbnails. I tried clear the .thumbnails
directory, which had over 2000 images in there. As soon as I restarted the gallery app, it'd fill right back up again. I tried the same process and rebooting, but again, starting the gallery app causes it loop with the thumbnail generation.
I tried putting a zero-length file .nomedia
into the .thumbnails directory but that didn't seem to be doing anything.
Is there something that I'm missing? I really don't want to do a factory reset as I don't have any easy way to back things up.
Also, I do not have an SD card at the moment. All of this is being put on the local storage for the phone.

This also happens with every other Reddit app on the market. All of them have the exact same problem when viewing comments.
I assume that there is some UI control in common between them, something that lists read-only tap-able text areas, but I'm not an Android developer so I don't actually know for sure.
I'm using a Motorola Atrix 2 from AT&T with stock ROM.

With the default settings, when the phone attempts to retrieve incoming mail, I get an error stating that there is an 'Invalid Server Certificate'. This persists even if I disable the Verify Certificate setting. Why is that? How do I avoid the 'Invalid Server Certificate' error?
I do not receive the error if I set 'Use secure password' to Never. But, that doesn't seem too safe. Would that mean my password is sent in plain text?
I'm running Android 2.3.3 on a Droid X.

I am a proud owner of Motorola Defy. A few months ago I upgraded my defy from 2.1 to 2.2. Although it had new features it became a bit laggy and so finally I decided to root my defy and install MIUI Gingerbread.
I was using MIUI Gingerbread all this time and suddenly it started itching me and a thought came to my mind that I want to experience Motoblur again.
I had already created an image of my Motoblur Froyo before installing MIUI Gingerbread. So I went ahead and reverted the Froyo image back on my defy.
But then some of the things stopped working: e.g. Camera is not working now.
I found that the Foryo image did not copy the Motoblur Froyo Kernel and when I reverted back my defy is still having the MIUI kernel.
Can someone help me getting back to Motoblur Froyo or can I download the original kernel and re-install it back to my defy?
Anything would help....
Thanks.

Using Android 2.1, Motorola Defy, Standard Email app (might be some Motoblur changes made, I don't know).
Many thanks.

- Is this an accurate observation?
- Is there a way to stop any of the Blur **widget** processes from starting (rooted but standard ROM) completely? Just to clarify, "replace with Blur-less ROM" is not a satisfactory answer, since Cyanogen doesn't run on DroidX due to locked bootloader.

The Motorola Droid 2 supports, from out-of-the-box, the notion of logging in with not only a Google account, but also a Facebook and Twitter account, and maintains three separate groups of contacts for each of those. It also supports the notion of both manually and automatically linking, say, a Facebook contact to a Google contact. This merges all of the information into a single contact. As this is my first Android phone, I cannot be sure how much of this is basic Android functionality, but I am under the impression a lot of it is from Motorola's MOTOBLUR, and is specific to Motorola handsets.
One problem with it, however, is that a Facebook contact's profile portrait never changes once it's set! When someone changes their Facebook profile portrait, I even get a notification in my timeline that they changed their portrait, with a clickable thumbnail of the new portrait, but their contact image in my phone doesn't ever actually change!
Is there a way to prod MOTOBLUR into resync'ing Facebook profile portraits? I am ___not___ looking for a basic Android application that will try to manually download images and manually match Google names to Facebook names, which would cause more problems than it would solve. I am looking to leverage the functionality already inherent in my MOTOBLUR contacts, and just prod the phone into realizing all of it's images are grossly out of date.
