I've went into my Google Contacts via the web but it is not there. The contact does not have a facebook or any other type of account. So it must be somewhere on the phone. I have a Droid X with Gingerbread.

(surprisingly this didn't seem to be covered on Android SE ) Does anyone know whether the situation has improved since then by introducing Android 2.3 stock ROM, or better/more capable Bluetooth Keyboards? Or was the problem with Droid X hardware and thus unfixable?

One click (or easy) way to Root Motorola Droid X with Morotola update 4.5.621

I have a Moto X running Android 5.0.1 and can't install an APK that i've received on my e-mail from a developer on my company. I already researched a bit about this and none of the similar problems nor solutions worked for me. What happens in my case is that i downlaod the APK from the e-mail, then go to the Downlaod section and try to install it. - I can touch the "Install" button normally (no screen dimming app installed here) and the progress bar of the app being installed appears normally, as if the app was being installed. - The option that allows me to install APKs from unknowns sources is also activated (in fact i managed to install other apps on this same smartphone the same way before). After the progress bar screen i get a message that says "The app wasn't installed" (the original message is in portuguese, this is the most literal translation) and that is it. There is no feedback, no error message, no nothing. When i try to install the same app but from the Android Studio (running the project on the smartphone) it runs sucessfully, but when i compile it into an APK and send it to be downloaded and installed, it doesn't work. Any thoughts?

I have a Droid X running Android 2.2.1 (system version 2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US). I want to upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3 but so far I've read one positive thread where people were happy with gingerbread and the rest is doom and gloom. I'm not really interested in doing any kind of rooting or custom ROM stuff I just want to know about the plain vanilla OTA update from Verizon (which my phone is currently asking me about). So should I upgrade? Or, to put it another way, what are the pros and cons of upgrading? **EDIT** A good answer would be like a bullet list of 5 or so negatives about Gingerbread and 5 or so positives. A great answer would be an extensive list of the negatives and positives. An amazing answer would add to that extensive list some anecdotal experience about the upgrade and whether they wish didn't upgrade or are glad they did and why. I originally title this question "Droid X: Should I upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3?" but in an effort to be less subjective I've reframed the question.

I have it in safe mode now, but I don't know what to do to fix it. Like trying to sign into my gmail account it kept telling me my password was incorrect over and over and I know I was putting the correct password. So it kept asking me to recover my account, and when I will try to click on the link to recover the account the same screen kept popping up saying incorrect password, like over n over n over n over

I have recently (since ~1month ago) experienced the following **problem**: - When I get new mail on my gmail account, Gmail will **usually** not autimatically retrieve it (e.g., no notification; and when I manually open GMail app, the mail will NOT be in the inbox) - However, **manual** mail retrieval/sync **DOES** work fine, for example if I click on "Sync" (retreieve) curcle icon within GMail app; or on Elixir 2's "start background data sync" icon; or check-off-and-back-on on the "Mail Sync" in Settings->Accounts for relevant Google account. - Also, **sometimes** Gmail does get retrieved/notified; I am not 100% sure but there seems to be a very strong correllation between that and having recently opened GMail app (especially in foreground). - GMail sync worked perfectly find till ~1 month ago - The background sync does not work for ANY of the 3 Gmail accounts I registered. - **OTHER mail apps seem to sync perfectly fine (e.g. Hotmail or Yahoo mail) in the background.**. So I have a hard time believing it is a problem with overall sync. - The issue is independent of network - it doesn't work on WiFi or 3G. **System details:** - Droid X, running rooted stock Froyo 2.2. - I have gone through 100% of intents in [Autostarts](http://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=autostart&fdid=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts) and made sure every single intent is ON for both Gmail listener and Google Framework. - Gmail version is 2.3.6 (it has a 7/1/2012 backup in Titanium Backup Pro, so I'm assuming this is when it was last updated. BUT the problem existed before 7/1) - **Background sync is turned ON - confirmed via Quick Settings app as well as widgets from Elixir 2.** (also, as noted above, Hotmail and Yahoo mail seem to sync fine)

One of my biggest pet peeves with Android (due to heavy use of my Droid X for reading web pages) is the fact that it can kill ANY application it wishes when doing its automated memory management. Especially, the fact that it **usually** starts by killing the stock browser as opposed to other less useful apps. More specifically, if I: - have multiple tabs open in Android's native browser (or even a single tab with some state in it, such as Google Reader) - and then switch to some memory hogging app(s), e.g. some heavy game from Glu or Google Maps/Navigation - Then, Android memory manager decides to kill my browser to free up memory (as opposed to, say, such critically important processes like Google Play or media player which I don't want) - Which, due to Froyo's stock browser not preserving its session state , loses all the open tabs I had, as well as in-tab state (e.g. which Google Reader article was open). **Is there a way to white-list an app (web browser) so Froyo 2.2 memory manager does NOT kill it?** *System:* Droid X with stock Froyo 2.2 ROM, rooted.

I've been trying most of the day to reverse tether my phone (Motorola Droid X on Verizon ub the USA), in this case to an Ubuntu VM running on a Windows 7 host via VMWare Workstation. I've followed the instructions in questions like these and everyone seems to quote the exact same blog post , which appears to be the gospel on the topic. Problem is that I can't get it to work. Everything works right up until the command: ./adb shell netcfg usb0 dhcp Which produces the response action 'dhcp' failed (Permission denied) I can't seem to find much of anything on this error message which makes me think: the phone isn't allowing me to do this. Not sure if it's the carrier or the manufacturer or what but I'm basically being told "no" Is it because the phone isn't rooted? My workplace actually has a policy against that so I haven't done it. If not, does anyone have idea what I'm doing wrong?

I followed these instructions to root the phone: **[How To Install CyanogenMod Android for Motorola Droid 3](http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_solana)** All of the scripts were successful and I am able to run SafeStrap under root permissions. I installed the Recovery. BootStrap says that Safe System is not active. When I reboot, the Safe Strap screen pops up. I press the menu button to start the recovery and I get a black screen. I noticed that when it starts up it says SafeStrap: Disabled in red. How can I get SafeStrap to work?

I am using a Droid X with rooted Gingerbread that is otherwise stock. I have root access, but have not used it to do anything. I have inspected the /Music folder multiple times and the 500+ songs I deleted are physically not in the filesystem any more. I tried rebooting the phone multiple times. I tried deleting the Cache and data for the app in Settings > Application, as well as running SDrescan to remount and rescan the card. I even tried deleting them from the music player app itself. No matter what I try, these songs will not disappear. (Though they obviously fail when I try to play them because they don't exist) Is there a file where the Music library cache is being kept that isn't getting updated? I would love to find it and just delete it. I also use Songbird for Android, and it had the same problem. New songs show up, but the old ones will not go away at all. Though, now Songbird won't even load at all. Sometimes loading it causes the phone to reboot. I have currently uninstalled it. In addition, it causes the phone to become very unstable whenever I try to play music. Accidentally playing a non-existent song can cause the phone to crash and get stuck on a black screen, requiring a battery pull and reboot.
