Samsung "My Files" app: where is trash?
### Situation There is a Samsung A10 with Android 9. Some files are deleted by `My Files` app. I tried to find its *trash* tool by [this post](https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/where-is-the-trash-in-quot-my-files-quot-app/td-p/1300469): > Open my files. Tap the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner. On the menu that opens select settings. On the settings menu scroll down to make sure **trash is turned on**. For me, there is no option to enable *trash*. > If you're not seeing anything that says trash then you might try looking for a my files version **update** in the galaxy store. I updated My Files app, but still there is no option to turn *trash* on. ### Question Am I missing something? How can I see *trash* in Samsung My Files app? ### Other questions 1. I tried some apps like these to recover deleted files. Some of them did find some old deleted photos, but *not* the ones which are deleted today: 1. [diskdigger](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?hl=en&id=com.defianttech.diskdigger) 1. [dumpster](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.baloota.dumpster&hl=en) 1. [digdeep](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatstuffapps.digdeep&hl=en&gl=US) 1. I also tried Gallery app: its *trash* is enabled but its restore didn't work. I think because the files are deleted by My Files app, *not* Gallery app. Not sure. 1. What else I can try to restore deleted photos and videos in My Files app? ### Yet another question I tried [undelete](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete) app. It mentions that there is no *root* mode: > Without root, the application can only recover cached images. How can I root the device without messing it up? Just to be able to use undelete app.

Remove "Recent files" from My Files app in Samsung Galaxy Core Prime

As you can see the "Recent files" in the picture, it's really annoying - it remembers every image which I just opened, thus violating my privacy. **Note** that "Recent files" even remembers and shows my hidden images (which Images or Gallery won't scan and show). I can make the "Recent files" forget about my recent images by going to **Settings -> Application manager -> All -> My Files -> Clear data** (check the second image), but that's just exhausted. Is there anyway to completely remove this annoying "Recent files"? In the past, I used Samsung Galaxy V and it doesn't have this "Recent files", then why my Samsung Galaxy Core Prime has? I'm using Android Excel and Word apps on a non-rooted Galaxy Note 8. Over the past months I've opened a couple of files from external sources (email and SD card), but was shocked to find these files could still be opened after the source was gone. It appears the files reside "somewhere" in /data/user/0. When I launch the app, it displays a file list including the path. I tried to delete these files and get a prompt saying I don't have permission. This is crazy! If I ever lost my phone, these sensitive files would be compromised!

At the moment, I can only access the files stored on my phone from the PC. I can access some music through players and pictures through gallery, but any other files that are there are hidden. Reading the manual, I realized this would normally be accessed through "My Files" - only... I don't have that icon anywhere. If it was there initially, I must have accidentally deleted it during the very first couple of minutes of having the phone and getting used to it. I hope such a thing is not irreversible? If I download something from the web, the download icon will show and then I am redirected to My Files, so they do exist, only the icon has gone and I don't know how to restore it or how else I can access the files without having to newly download something each time.

Open File - All apps associated with this action have been turned off, blocked, or are not installed

I can open my text editor (QuickEdit Pro) and then, within my text editor, navigate to any file I like and anything (.md or .sh or .pl) will open without trouble. But when I open the default 'My Files' app and navigate to some folder where I tap a .md file, I am faced with a plain white screen that contains nothing but the text in the title of this question. So far, .txt files stand out as being the only ones that can be directly opened in a text editor app. I have installed 5 other random text editors and this white screen still pops up when I try to open a .md file directly. What do I have to do to be able to tap a .md file and have it open in a text editor? If my text editor is not configured to open anything besides .txt files, what would the developer have to do to fix this? PS I'm running Android 6.0.1 on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.

'My Files' Application Not Appearing
After updating to Android 5.0, I can no longer find the 'My Files' application. Has this feature been disabled? If not, where is this now located?

Regarding which app will be opened when I connect a USB ("OTG") device. How do I change this setting. I do not wish any of the following apps to open: Screenshot Screenshot (click image to enlarge) (The screenshot shows the situation when I connect a USB flash drive.) I wish Android stock file manager ("My Files") to open when I connect a USB flash. A week ago I got problems connecting USB. Test apps for USB say flash disks are connected but I can not see them. The only time they work is when Android stock file manager opens on connection. It always used to be like that but now "My Files" only opens automatically, occasionally. It seems to work better for flash drives that have never been connected before. Somehow some apps have decided that they should open for certain defined USB devices. (I may unfortunately have replied yes to some questions earlier.) I naturally looked in the application manager. I found a relevant setting for one of these programs but not for the remaining. It is not practical right now to uninstall the programs or format flash drives. How do I make stock file manager "My Files" open default when USB is connected? Thanks Android 5.0, Galaxy Note 3 Edit If someone else gets the same problem I can add this: The best file managers for USB/OTG that work even if Android can not see the flash drives seem to be: 1. Nexus Media Importer ($5) 2. Total Commander OTG plug in ($1) With a modern good speed USB flash drive these two programs copy files with "reasonably" good speed.
