I have a number of old video files and will likely continue to receive new ones that contain QuickTime 7 Pro TextTracks as subtitles and would like to find a future-proof way of being able to access the TextTrack data. This was all part of an old research workflow that added multiple TextTracks to each QuickTime video. I'm currently still running Mojave, since it is the last OS supporting QuickTime 7, but I need urgently to update to the latest macOS for different reasons.
It's not really feasible to go through each video prior to updating and extract the TextTrack with QuickTime 7 so I'd be able to convert to subrip or whatever other format. I will also likely be receiving in the future new files in this format from other researchers and collaborators who had been using this workflow.
Is there any way to access the TextTracks after updating macOS to Catalina and later versions?
Is there any program who would still be able to read these files (at least extract the TextTrack text plus timecode, even if it doesn't play the video)? (I'm not talking about textfiles in the QT format, which would be a no-brainer, but about .mov or .mp4 files that have a QT formatted TextTrack which currently can only be seen in QuickTime 7 Pro)
Alternatively, has anyone tried installing QuickTime 7 in a [Wine](https://www.winehq.org/) emulator? Any ideas if this might work?

I was pretty surprised to figure out Mac doesn't have anything that does the same thing... do you guys know any subtitle edit software that's actually good?
Video is needed to be played during the editing... I'm willing to pay for an alternative so price is not an issue

How can I rip DVD subtitles to SRT format (or something else that iPads can understand)?
Title says it all. I've used HandBrake, Subler, VideoMonkey, and RipIt. I'm familiar with mencoder. None of them seem to be able to rip the subtitles from a DVD and then get the soft subtitles to the iPad.

I've found such player for Windows. It's PotPlayer. Now I'm looking for one for macOS.

I'm using iMovie 10.1.13 on 2015 macbook running OX 10.14.6 I'm trying to put some subtitles below the movie to make for my poor English pronunciation or to allow viewers to view without sound.
I'm using the title section, using the "third lower part", and I create a new section for every single line of subtitles.
I change the font size, color (My background is completely white so I want to settle with all black fonts). This works well for the first titles but after inserting a few sections, the space size between characters decrease and becomes less (when previewing and full export) readable and seems to double when editing the text:
Normal pictures:
This is quite readable
This is less readable
Edit the less readable
Is there a way to preserve the character space, and keep the subtitles readable?

For ages I've been happily using QuickTime 7 Pro for all my video needs. I guess with Catalina now the time has come to move on ...
But there is one thing that keeps holding me back.
In QT7 I could easily add and remove subtitle files as simple text files in this form:
{QTtext}{timescale:100}{size:12}{backColor:0,0,0}{textColor:65535,65535,65535}{width:320}{justify:left}
[00:00:00.980]
{textEncoding:256}Hello!
[00:00:01.980]
[00:00:02.422]
{textEncoding:256}How are you?
[00:00:03.422]
etc.
That doesn't (didn't?) work in QuickTime X. Nor do I seem to be able to add SRT files to a movie file.
Now, I've heard some rumors that QuickTime X in Catalina is getting some Pro features. Has anyone got a clue if any form of subtitles is finally supported or if there are any workarounds?
Much appreciated.

Then I try to use PlayerXtreme to do the same thing, although it claims to have subtitle support in a paid upgrade version, but it still cannot load the subtitle correctly. I upload the video file in case anyone want to test.

I am seriously considering moving from my Android TV-based player to Apple TV player, because my current solution fails completely on playing / streaming videos from from an external server through SMB or FTP protocol with external subtitles.
Some software players (i.e. VLC) can browse network shares (some can't), but all of them fails on opening external subtitles, i.e. stored in the .srt or .txt file with exactly the same filename as corresponding video file. It is only possible to display subtitles, if they are embedded into video files that supports embedded subtitles (i.e. MKV) or subtitles downloaded from OpenSubtitles.org.
This is especially weird, because happens only on SMB / FTP protocol. When using exactly the same player on local disk, everything works just like a charm.
I'd like to ask how does it work in case of Apple TV?
While searching the Internet, I managed to learn that Apple TV can play content from local network (don't know, if using SMB or FTP protocol), using VLC or some other players. But I can't find any certain, confirmed information about fetching subtitles from. srt, .txt etc. files stored in exactly the same source and using exactly the same protocol (local share using SMB or external share using FTP) as used for fetching main video file.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Thank you.

I began watching a show on Hulu. It came up with Spanish subtitles. I want to switch it to English subtitles.
I was instructed by a Hulu customer service rep to go to the Hulu website, log in, pull up the show, start playing it, hover the mouse until the control bar appeared near the bottom of the screen, click the gear, select English from the closed captions options, and then log out on the web site which would set it as a global default. I did this, and it did make the show, as seen on my browser, use English subtitles, but this did not affect the same show as seen on Apple TV. However, if I start watching a new show, the subtitles are in English. It's as though Hulu has "committed" me to watching The Handmaid's Tale with Spanish subtitles, and won't allow it to be changed.
The customer service rep said this was a "known problem with Apple TV" and that I'd have to wait for Apple to fix it. I'm dubious.
Does anyone have experience with the Hulu app on Apple TV, and can suggest how to force a subtitle language change on a series I've already begun watching?

I don't mind using QuickTime 7 and I know VLC is far better in using .srt files, but still. This question intrigues me a lot.
How can I make QuickTime X work with .srt files?
