This is what I am currently running:
Verizon Motorola Droid 4
Android Version 4.1.2
System Version 98.72.189.XT894.Verizon.en.US
Last update Nov 21 2013
Prior to this Nov 21st update, I was able to set a custom ringtone, notification, and alarm on my phone. Custom meaning I can upload a sound file of my choice and have my phone play it.
After the update, I am still allowed to set a custom ringtone and notification, however I am prohibited from setting a custom alarm sound.
Is it possible to still choose my own alarm sound **without** rooting or installing an app?'
*Note: Previous question/answers don't concern this update or suggest installing a third party app.*
EDIT: To change alarms, I go to:
Apps -> Clock -> Set Alarm -> Settings
. When choosing an alarm sound, I am only allowed the default selection from the phone, whereas with ringtones and notifications (in System Settings -> Sound
), I am able to select from my custom made sound files.

When I connect an Arduino Uno via USB to my Linux Ubuntu Desktop 14.04, the arduino shows up as /dev/ttyACM0 .... When I connect it via usb to an android phone the device is powered and recognized in Android apps, but I can't seem to find it when i look in a terminal emulator at the /dev folder. When I browse android's directory structure using terminal, where can I find the analogous device?
Further elaboration:
On the desktop I can access the USB arduino device with no trouble, using
screen /dev/ttyACM0
or I can even pipe characters to it directly such as:
echo -n w > /dev/ttyACM0
On the android device, there are no tty* devices in that folder at all.
Someone I know recommended I install a full linux distro on top of android, GNUroot Debian, and maybe it would be there. I did this on both an LG Nexus 5 with android 6.0 as well as a Moto Droid 4 with Android 4.1.2, in hopes that those familiar devices /dev/ttyACM would show up, but they didn't.
Is there any similiar thing to /dev/ttyACM0 in android?
Thank you!

Water Damage to Droid 4 Non Removable Battery

I'm not a patient person so waiting for it to dry out is sort of annoying.

I have a Motorola Droid 4 with Verizon service. As of two days ago, it is apparently getting no GPS data from satellites. I thought it was a temporary glitch (cloudy sky, just turned the phone on, etc.) but none of my apps that use GPS are getting sufficiently accurate location data and it's clearly relying only on mobile network location.
A Google search for "GPS droid 4" hasn't been terribly helpful. Based on "How can I fix my Android's crappy GPS? " I checked that I've got GPS turned on (yes), am using AGPS (yes), having the mobile networks help with location as well (yes).
I downloaded GPS Status & Toolbox , and I get zero GPS reception even after leaving the phone sitting outside with a relatively clear sky for 30 minutes (far longer than it should ever take to get reasonable satellite fix with any GPS) -- no information at all for the lat/long. Resetting the AGPS and downloading new does not change anything.
I also tried GPS Test and can see zero satellites :\
Is this a problem that can be fixed (either by me or a professional) or am I looking for a new phone if I want to know where I am?

LED light DROID 4
Can you change the color of the LED light on the DROID 4? Like is there an app or anything? If so, what's the name of the app, and how?

Easiest way to automatically pause music when removing device from Dock?

I normally use the built-in music player, but again I'm willing to try something else if it would help.
If it's relevant, I have the phone set to not go into the dock app for desktop use.

The Droid 4 physical keyboard has had driver/software issues forever, but this update takes the cake. Pressing shift-period and shift-comma no longer produce colon and semicolon as advertised, but instead greater-than and less-than. Is there any way to fix this? Also, in Dolphin browser the keyboard is even more broken—the symbol key acts as a second space bar and holding a key makes it repeat instead of offering alternatives. Help!
edit: following directions elsewhere I did a factory reset. The keyboard now seems to work okay everywhere except Dolphin, where the shift key doesn't latch, the capslock key doesn't work, and the symbol key is still a spacebar.
Edit 2: The latest Dolphin beta has the same problem.
Edit 3: Actually, Dolphin, Chrome, and the plain browser all have this problem. Firefox does not. DroidEdit does not, Gmail does not.

For the past couple weeks my Droid 4 has been switching itself into silent mode at night. At first I thought it was me, but it's not. At around 11pm I plug it in and set it on the table. At this point it is not in silent mode. In the morning it is in silent mode, which means the alarm has not gone off. After I take it off silent mode, the alarm volume is still at zero, so I have to adjust that too. And like I said, this have been the case for a couple weeks.
I have installed no new apps. There are no smart actions set. Any ideas? Thanks.

How do I get rid of the "shut the screen off" animation on Droid 4?
I just want the screen to go black. No fade, no "old style tube tv" animation. Is there a way to make it do this?
