What should I do if a brand new Android phone is overheating?
I brought 'Moto G24 Power' smartphone 2 days back. From day one it is overheating evening when I am doing basic tasks. I brought it from Flipkart online. There is no return, only repair from service center. Is there any heating problem with this model or is it an hardware issue? What should I do?

I'm using Lineage 20, Android 13 on a Pixel 4A and often when I'm using the hotspot feature while charging I get a notification with the message "Your phone is getting warm".
It then disables stuff like the hotspot for some time until it decides my device is not warm anymore.
When touching the casing with my hand it doen't feel warmer than usual and even then I want to choose if my phone should die early from overheating so I'm looking for a way to disable this "feature".
Thanks for your assistance !

By closed I mean clicking "switch off" in notifications panel and closing it in "recent apps".
Waze consumes at most 20% of my battery during normal use but after turning it off, my cell phone keeps getting hotter for no apparent reason.
Things I tried:
- Turning it off and back on. It does cool down when it's off but after turning it back on the heating continues gradually.
- Using Juice Defender in agressive mode. No change.
- Troubleshooting with Watchdog Lite. The process consuming the most energy is Android System (around 10-15%).
I suspect Waze has something to do with this because the problem exists even when I only opened this app that day.

When I do browsing say for 10-15 mins or shoot videos (4K) 2-3 mins or take HDR photos 10-15 photos in succession, the phone gets hot from every nook and corner. My local service center is not very high tech. The only solution they suggested is to flash the OS. I do not to what extent this is going to help. I did nt buy the phone from Google Store but from other online partners in India. I sought help of people around here or users of Nexus 6P about their experience.
Thanks.

My Razr (Stock ROM 4.0) is very very hot. After some research I found
com.android.providers.downloads
is responsible, since it's using about 60% of CPU.
I have tried killing it, and it respawns, however what I found to work (for two hours) is clearing the cache and data of the process, and killing it, however something is triggering again.
P.S. I'm not downloading anything, and all my apps are updated (so Play Store is not trying to download updates).
If I freeze this process, the Gmail app crashes.

I have an old, quite banged-up Huawei Y6II. I want to use it as a static device and turn it into a security camera, web server, wifi hotspot, etc. Is it okay to keep it plugged in all the time? Or should I use a DIY solution that controls the charging cable with a relay in a way that the cable is turned on when the battery is low and then turned off when it is full?
To clarify, I am not asking about the DIY solution, I have a plan for that already. My question is, is it worth going into the hassle, or is it just fine to normally keep the phone plugged in 24x7?
Please note, there are frequent power outages here.
And in case this info is useful - the battery of the phone was replaced once and the new battery was purchased from a "*don't know how trustworthy*" shop, but it works okay, and the price was close to an original replacement.
Thanks.

So I'm using a custom kernel that overclocked my CPU and GPU. I turned down the frequency to stock but the big cpu freq can't be set(restore itself to default after some time), causing my phone to heat up if I'm having heavy workload/game. When my phone is really hot, kernel panic comes in and reboot my phone, I hate it when it happen while I'm gaming.
I looked up why it reboot and the cause is kernel panic. So I searched how to disable kernel panic and so I did.
My phone doesn't reboot anymore. But I'm thinking is it okay to disable it? I can't use another kernel cause it the only one kernel that support custom rom and having hotplug (really helpful at saving battery and less cpu heat). And I don't know how to recompile a kernel.
My tweaks.sh
sysctl -w kernel.panic=0
sysctl -w kernel.panic_on_oops=0
sysctl -w kernel.softlockup_panic=0

I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S4, and it came with some new features and also some new problems. Since the new update I have been getting warnings on my phone telling me it is overheating. The phone also has the ability to kill apps that are using a lot of processing power in order to get the phone to cool down. This has proven to be not only inconvenient, but actually dangerous. On several occasions the app that was closed (which, in truth, likely contributed to its overheating) was Waze. This usually happens on long trips, while i'm going 60mph, forcing me to pull over on the side of a highway just to let my phone cool down so that I can open the app again. I have not gotten into an auto accident yet, but I would much rather not be in that situation to being with. For others, there can be an [even greater danger in just getting lost](http://www.aol.com/article/2014/05/05/u-s-marine-veteran-takes-wrong-turn-ends-up-in-mexican-prison/20880118/) .
**Is there a way to put certain apps, such as Waze, or any other navigation app, on a system whitelist so that they don't get shut down mid-use, potentially creating an extremely dangerous situation?**

Is there currently a system in place that prevents overheating. I have recently been having issues with my mobile hotspot and I noticed that the issues I have seem to be when the phone is above 90 degrees F. (Using a battery temperature app).
When the phone is room temperature everything seems to work fine and when it is above 90 I seem to have issues. I thought maybe the wifi chip was having issues, so I manually tethered with USB and continued to have issues. To rule out my laptop, I connected the phone to my router and hardwired in my laptop. I then bought another cell phone which had the same issues. Specifically the issue I was having was full 20 Mbps and then 0 and then 20 and then 0. (Tested with speedtest.net multiple times.) So it appears to be the actual chip that connects to the cell towers. (On both phones it was doing this.)
Is there a safety mechanism in place in the android system that detects that your phone is heating up and begins cycling chips on and off to prevent overheating? I can see how for most activities a normal person wouldn't notice unless you're streaming something live with no buffer (ie: remote desktop over hotspot). Actually if it does this it would be almost genius because it wouldn't need to completely power off. It could just cycle between normal power and lower power which wouldn't be an issue for 95% of the things you do, it would increase battery life and decrease phone temperature. However, I also would be doing the 5% of the tasks were it is annoying as all get out watching the mouse cursor skip across my screen and watching windows minimize robotically with jerking updates.

Reviving my phone after a small part of it (eg the processor) overheated

I tried to compress my 1.6GB video in the Media Converter app by exporting it to mp4(h264,aac) on my OnePlus 3 as per https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-reduce-video-size-on-Android . However, approximately 75% of the way through the conversion (after about 30 minutes) my phone overheated and turned off (with the screen going black immediately and no shut-down procedure). I tried to turn it on in the normal way, but it would not turn on. After leaving it to cool for 5 minutes, I plugged it back into the charger and it immediately turned on automatically (displaying battery at 30%).
I tried to compress the video a second time, this time putting my phone on an ice-pack to keep it cool and leaving it on charge. I touched and checked the front and back of the phone regularly to ensure it was remaining dry, was not cooling too much because of the ice pack, and was not overheating (it remained at something like 20 degrees C, approximately the same as the top of the ice pack, through most of the process - although the bottom of the ice pack remained cold). This time it turned off after 45 minutes, 1 minute before the conversion was due to complete. Immediately after it turned off I noticed a very small area near the speaker (I assume near the processor) was overly warm (though not hot). I assume the heat could not escape fast enough from the hot processor into the body of the phone. Maybe the internal thermometer was closer to the ice-pack than the processor and 'tricked' into thinking the processor was cool. Now my phone is not turning on, displaying anything on the screen, or vibrating, even after plugging it into the charger and unplugging it many times over the past 12 hours. What can I do to try and revive my phone?

I have LG V20 and I like to play Cyber Hunter Lite on low graphics, high resolution and high fps but I don't understand why it sometimes heat so much when playing, sometimes absolutely not, even when charging with 2A, usually no heat. I use KillApps app to kill all processes and leave only Messenger, Facebook... only about four, reboot phone and use "Boosting" app (called Dr. Booster) to launch the game. But now it heat a lot, and can't touch the screen how it gets after 10 mins of gameplay. But my situation is exceptional. My battery percentage is only 10% now. Usually I charge and play the game when battery is above 20%. So, I wonder if low battery percentage can affect heating. Or maybe there are other reasons. I use Lineage OS 15.1.

My Samsung S7 is seriously overheated. Battery is being consumed super quickly. I need to see a simple list of applications with percentage of CPU usage. I am desperate because all attempts and advices from Internet failed :( I tried:
- use
top
command on termux
. Doesn't work. Shows only 2 processes with 0% CPU usage.
- activate the developer mode and go to Running services
. There is no CPU usage whatsoever! Only RAM usage.
- I tried to install several recommended apps like Simple System Monitor (doesn't show the actual CPU usage of app), Legacy OS Monitor (same problem as the top
command), System Info for Android (only shows itself in the task list!)
I don't get it. Why is it so difficult to do such an easy thing? I remember it was sooo easy on Androd 2.3!
I have Android 8.0.0. Thanks in advance for help!

My phones battery was draining extremely quickly a few moments ago, around 1% per 2 seconds. It's been doing this fairly often but when I go to **device management and clean everything** it usually stops draining.
This time though, the battery kept on being chugged and I couldn't find any explanation as to why it would get drained like that, everything was asleep or off. Even after **turning off and on my device**, the battery kept going down and the phone kept getting hotter and hotter.
Would any one know what else I could do? I feel as though I tried everything possible.
(in case this happens again since it randomly decided to stop chugging.)
Thanks,
to note:
- Device software is up to date.
- Device is 1 1/2 years old.

Phone is fairly new to me, I got it November or so. It's always worked just fine. Today I had it plugged in, walked into the other room for a few minutes and came back. Phone showed an error something like "Charging paused. system is too hot." So my Boyfriend told me to restart it and put in my extra battery (because I have two batteries for it). Did that, powered back up, was working on where in settings I could find the battery temperature and (less than 5 minutes)it told me something to the effect of "System overheating. all apps have been closed, phone can only be used for contacts". So I powered off, pulled out the battery, and now I'm nervous to try and turn it on again.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: I'm not rooted
