adb shell, but I'm not allowed to read /data:

No Service on Galaxy SL GT I9003
I have a Samsung Galaxy SL running Android 2.3.6. I bought a new battery and it was working perfectly until I put on recharge. Immidiately after I put it for recharge, it started showing "No Service". It does not receive any network coverage. Everything else is working fine.

Restore IMEI for Samsung Galaxy SL (GT-I9003) when there is no backup
Well I was on phone and suddenly I lost IMEI and my SIM card is not detected. So I tried flashing (to some firmware and I flashed back to original I9003XWKPG) and nothing. I don't have any backups. I have Samsung Galaxy SL (GT-I9003). How can I restore my IMEI? (Click image to enlarge) [ ][1] [ ][3]...

There are lots of howtos online but most of them are old with rotten links (to the downloads). In addition to how to root and upgrade and where to download the files, I'd like to know the following:
1. Is the (ICS or Jelly Bean) kernel I need to download trustworthy (i.e. open source)?
2. Are there any bugs associated with the kernel?
My phone is not rooted and is running firmware version 2.2.1 and kernel version 2.6.32.9.

CWM recovery can't find the kernel image
I wanted to root and upgrade my Galaxy i9003 to Jelly Bean. I followed [this guide][1] and flashed CWM on the phone. But then the phone doesn't boot in normal mode and Samsumg logo keeps flashing forever. I've put the CM 11 kernel on the external card but when I boot into recovery, CWM can't find it...

I've put the CM 11 kernel on the external card but when I boot into recovery, CWM can't find it. The list of directories (on the sd card) it shows is not complete and it shows the same directories on the internal card even after I did a factory reset and wiped the caches.
Any way to save the day? Can I flash the CM 11 kernel using Odin?

How to solve a softkey error?

I was on CM9 Alpha 14 for few months, suddenly my phone's softkeys stopped working and then the touchscreen stopped responding. On factory reset the device worked smoother than ever before, with everything working in proper condition for few hours. I installed stock rom xxkpe first and then now I'm on DDMF1, have rooted it. For a while it also worked fine, now touch screen is working extremely well, but softkeys(back and Option/menu) keys are not responding. Checked with key debug in recovery mode. It does not respond. Other stuffs are working fine.
Is it the touchpad? I feel like software error as it worked for a while after installing ROM. Any solutions?

I had fresh install from Samsung Service center for Android. They again installed Android 2.2. And now the Kies is saying,
