On Android 13, is there still a 2G kill switch?

So, was it removed from Android 13 ? Or is there something specific with my phone, my country (France) or my mobile operator (Free) ?

I'm using a crDroid rom on a Samsung S8 phone and I have realized that google decided to fight 2G networks.
I have only 3G and 4G options for preferred network type now in the rom settings. And if I use a method that worked beautifully on android pie, it no longer works on android 13. When I set the type to 2G, the network type doesn't change and the rom settings displays something like "invalid value, defaulting to 4G".
But I found out I can still change it by using the phone app, inputting
*#*#4636#*#*
and then selecting 2G. This way 2G is even displayed in the rom settings and it works. But as soon as I change it to 4G, the only way to get back to 2G is to input the code again in the phone app.
I would like to have some automation to switch between 2G and 4G. Preferrably with a quick settings tile.
So, is there a way to achieve this in a more effective way?

Can Truecaller get caller ID on 2G connection?
Truecaller emphasizes that it requires 3G/WiFi connection in order to tell caller ID. Does this mean that if I'm in an area where only 2G is available and no WiFi is available, Truecaller cannot get a caller ID for me?

Has the choice of "network mode" an effect on battery when mobile data is switched off?

https://www.telecomhall.net/t/why-lte-4g-drains-battery-faster-than-2g-3g/138
Now, my question is : if I switch mobile data off, has the "mobile network" setting (2G/3G/4G) still an impact on battery consumption ?
The reason behind this question is that I am looking for the most battery-efficient configuration in my use case. Most of the time I am connected through Wi-Fi. Mobile data is switched off. Now, as for the mobile network setting, is there some kind of optimization to be done ? I'm hesitating between 2 settings :
- The default setting is 4G with VoLTE on
- Or would it be more battery efficient to switch VoLTE off, and activate 2G ?

My current phone unfortunately does not support VoLTE, so I'm limited to 2G for calls.
However, for all other uses (internet, messaging), even the worst LTE reception is still infinitely better than 2G. In areas with low LTE coverage, my phone switches down to 2G, despite me not intending to make a call.
When I then wish to go online, I have to manually open up the secret menu, force it to use the weak LTE signal (by setting it to "LTE ONLY"), and remember to turn it back to its automatic mode when I want to make or receive a call.
Is there a way to do this automatically? Only ever connect to useless 2G when making calls, and forcing LTE in *all* other situations?
The "preferred network type" option in the settings ("LTE/3G/2G (Auto)", "3G/2G (Auto)", "2G Only") also seems to be very backwards for modern usage.

Is it possible to disable 2g connections completely, while allowing 3/4g connections to continue?
I would like to completely disable all 2g connections, but allow 3g and 4g connections. Is this possible? how would one go about doing such a thing? I see options to disable 3g/4g to "save battery life", but I am looking for the opposite of this option. command-line/root hacks are OK.

Simple way to toggle between 2G and 3G connection

## TL;DR
Usually, I have my device locked to "2G only" for multiple reasons:
* saving [tag:battery-life]
* no need for "high-speed" to simply be informed about new mail or doing the little contacts/calendar syncs (not much changes, either)
But from time to time, I could use 3G:
* some area that has bad 2G coverage (data-wise)
* the occasional "internet use" e.g. with a navigation app, looking up "a little more" on the web, or installing something from [tag:google-play-store]
For those occasions, I find it impractical to navigate to the settings page and change that manually -- even when done via some "shortcut" placed on a [tag:homescreen]. Preferably, I want to be able to automate this via [tag:tasker], to e.g. automatically switch when entering/leaving the "bad coverage area" or when one of those apps is in foreground (both conditions are covered by tasker, just the "action" is missing). I checked thoroughly on our site here, on the [tag:google-play-store], and even did an extensive Google search -- but all that turned up was either a shortcut or a kernel patch for specific ROMs, both no-gos for me.
Hence my...
## Question:
Is there any easy way to switch between 2G/3G mode? As said, shortcuts to the settings page do not count (so [Can anyone reccomend a 2g / 3g switching widget?](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/2445/16575) is no option). Wanted criteria include:
* not requiring more than one tap (preferably no tap to trigger the action, see below)
* a big plus (and favorite wish): ability to be triggered via [tag:tasker]
* not depending on specific ROMs (should work with [tag:stock-rom])
* preferably not involving [tag:root] -- but options requiring root would still be fine with me
* [tag:command-line] hacks are fine with me as well :)

2G versus 3G: Does it really save battery?
I often hear the recommendation that fixing your device to 2G saves a lot of juice compared to using 3G. Is that true? Or is it really a myth?

I have a weird Issue with my brand new Oneplus 3. It's not connecting to 2G network, or it connects, but calling/data does not work.
- when switching from 3G to 2G, it registers to network, even shows Edge sign, but calling and data is not working
- when switching from 4G to 2G, it even does not connect
It can be seen on a video I made - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPlk8EEQsPE
What I have tried:
- 5 SIM cards from 3 different operators. All have the same problem, except T-Mobile, which was able to make a call once in +-10 attempts
- flashing various versions of Oxygen OS (3.1.x, latest 3.2.7); flashing CyanogenMod latest; eflashed whole phone by Oneplus support using MSMDownloadTool
- hard resets, *#*#4626#*#* menu settings etc...
Nothing works. Could not find anywhere on the internet much more solutions to this.
Guess it's hardware issue fro RMA?
Anyone else encountered this issue?

I'm stuck with my planned automatization with tasker and security settings. My idea is to automatically switch to 2G/GSM when I connect to a WLAN. When disconnecting I want to switch back to 3G/4G.
I'm on Sultans CM13 on my OPX (rooted). What i did so far: Installed tasker and security settings (SS) and configured a tasker profile with a task using the SS plugin (based on [this XDA tutorial](http://forum.xda-developers.com/u/tasker-tips-tricks/guide-switch-to-2g-connected-to-wifi-t3330876)) .
Under Actions --> Device Setting I picked *global* as table and set the value of *preferred_network_mode1* to 1 (I also tested 0). I also configured the shell script described in the tutorial. But my phone is not switching to 2G when activating the WLAN although the profile is active. #edit: I just saw that there is also a parameter called preferred_network_mode followed by a 10 digit number, but it is not working either. No switch to 2G or from 2G to 3G.
Now I wanted to check if my phone/provider has another value perhaps, but when I'm executing:
`sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
SELECT name, value FROM global;`
as
su
I get the message that the table global
is not existing. Does anyone has an idea how I can access this database or how to configure Tasker/Security Settings on my OnePlus X (with CM13) in Germany (T-Mobile)?

Why is internet switched off when switching 2G/3G?
I have a stock Android 4.2.2 on Galaxy Nexus, so I think this can be related to all Android phones. When switching from 2G to 3G and vice versa internet connection is switched off for a few seconds, even though when I browse in 3G I can connect to EDGE and GPRS too: why does this happen?

I have this strange issue in Sony Xperia U. Currently I am using 6.1.1.B.1.100 bulid ICS 4.0.4. There is no option in mobile network to select 2g or 3g or 2g/3g. All I have is
Use only 3g networks
in my settings. But I managed to select 2g network from the code *#*4636#*#*
(**Phone info**) and select GSM only
in Select prefferred network type
.
But the problem is this when I am using 2g data( to save juice) whenever I get a missed call after that my mobile data is unavailable( I know unlike 3g in 2g you cant use data during voice call but this is after the missed call). This is not happening if I am in 3g and only for missed calls alone.
The only way I am able to use the data again is I have to enable 3g again and change back to 2g.
Is this normal? Any workaround for this? I didnt find this when I am using previous build.

I have bought a Google Nexus 7 3G Tablet.
But, My country and area doesn't allow me to use 3G sims/Wi-Fi.
We have only 2G sims. When I insert the sim, I can connect to the Internet. I can send and receive SMS messages via "Go SMS Pro" application.
But, I am unable to use voice call system which is available in any simple nokia / samsung java supported mobile.
Will my Nexus 7 allow me to send and receive Voice calls in 2G network? Because, to know sim balance we have to call on *XXX# or to know about data usage (Internet MB), we have to dial a number. Also, to call any phone number, we have to dial. So, what can I do to send and receive Calls like any simple mobile phone?

i know that 2G/3G are not device-device communication systems but if we can directly access the physical layer of 2G/3G(the transmission hardware) of the phone then we can transmit data through it.
