2011, 15" MacBook Pro won't connect with Apple Cinema Display

I have a 2011, 15" MacBook Pro (running 10.6.8) with the defunct, AMD(?) graphics chip. I'm trying to connect to a 23" Apple Cinema Display using a brand-new Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter (LogiLink CV0037), **but it doesn't work.** I am aware that my laptop has a Thunderbolt port, not a Mini DisplayPort. However, everything I've read seems to indicate that a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter should work perfectly fine for what I'm trying to do, given Thunderbolt's 'backward compatibility'. The most likely culprit in my mind is that I've permanently disabled the faulty graphics chip by following these video instructions , which might be interacting with how my machine connects with the display. Is this likely correct? Is the AMD(?) chip required to run external displays? Are there any other obvious possibilities? Also, it's worth noting: Both the display and adapter do in fact work. I plugged the display into an older 17" MBP with a mini-DisplayPort with no problems. Also when I pull the adapter out of either the 15" or 17", the laptop screen goes blue for a few seconds, suggesting that the 15" MacBook Pro is also detecting something, just not integrating the display connection fully(?).

I'm using an old Apple 30" Cinema Display via a series of dongles: > https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/411391/apple-silicon-m1-mac-connecting-30-apple-cinema-display The native resolution is 2560 x 1600 and works great. It may require to holding Option when clicking "Scaled" to get that resolution. Occasionally, after awaking from sleep, the monitor awakens in an ugly pixelated low resolution state. System Preferences shows 1280 x 800 as the max resolution. At this point I unplug/replug the USB-C cable. The monitor goes back to native resolution after it reconnects. I want to avoid digging behind my desk to unplug the USB-C / Thunderbolt cable. Is there a Terminal command I can run to quickly "reconnect" all external displays? I'm not interested in anything that would require me to shut down the Mac, reset the NVRAM, etc. What I want is a quick software alternative to manually unplugging the monitor. low res state

Apple Silicon M1 Mac connecting 30" Apple Cinema Display

I am attempting to connect an Apple Silicon Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and/or MacBook Pro to a 30" Apple Cinema Display at native 2560x1600 resolution. The same question for Intel Macs with USB-C is asked here: > - https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/308123/connect-apple-30-cinema-display-to-new-macbook-usb-c > - https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/243920/connect-new-macbook-usb-c-to-apple-cinema-display-30-dual-link-dvi I'm attempting to use the same chain of adapters as listed in those answers, which I have personally tested to work on an Intel USB-C Mac: 1. M1 Mac (USB-C / Thunderbolt 3) 1. USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter 1. [Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter](https://www.apple.com/sg_smb_5200/shop/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-adapter) 1. Apple Cinema Display 30" (Dual-Link DVI) However, this combination does not seem to work on my M1 Mac Mini. I get **no screen response** on the M1 Mac. The monitor's power light is on, and USB-passthrough of my keyboard and mouse works fine, but the screen is not recognized by the Mac. Do Apple Silicon Macs with Thunderbolt 3 require specific adapters, different from previous Intel Thunderbolt 3 Macs? The Mac Mini-based Apple Silicon Developer Transition Kit (DTK) [did not work](https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/650759) with the Apple Cinema Display; I'm hoping that limitation was removed from the shipping version. I'd like to continue to use the 30" Apple Cinema Display + Apple Dual Link DVI Adapter. Which additional adapters are needed to use that Mini DisplayPort output with an M1 Mac? I have 2 x Apple 27 Cinema Thunderbolt Displays . I recently acquired an Intel 2019 Macbook Pro 16 . I've been running the cinema displays for the last few years using an apple brand Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter. It worked fine on older macs, and on my ThinkPad P50. The MBP should support 4 external 4K displays. The connection setup includes Displays A , B and a MBP. "A" is connected to "B" using the hard wired thunderbolt cable, "B" is plugged into a TB3 to TB2 adapter made by apple, the adapter plugs into the MBP. In this setup "B" lights up. Of the 2 Cinemas, ONLY the display directly connected to the MBP lights up. How do i get it to recognize the 2nd "daisy chained" external display? Will this require new hardware? . **EDITS** ** I've tried all cable/port permutations ** I've reset the PRAM ** I've powered down both monitors for 30 minutes

Great clarity, looked good apart from the broad bands of color appearing at random intervals across the screen (top to bottom). I've managed to disassemble the monitor to check for anything amiss inside and the inside looks fine. One thing that does puzzle me is the wires for the smaller 'power panel' connecter are taped to the chassis -- not sure why as they do have a connector plug fitted... Is this unit salvageable? Has anybody had experience with this kind of problem? Looks pretty good I think... enter image description here Why is this plug taped to the chassis? enter image description here

I am trying to have my Apple Cinema 20 Display work as a second screen on my brand new MacBook Air M1 2020. Read this article and other videos and bought the following : - Apple Mini-Diplay Port to Dual-link DVI Adapter - a basic usb-c to Mini-Diplay Port adapter It works -almost- all right. The Cinema Display displays. But I get like parasites, like small zebras (like a bad rection on an old TV set) and the screen gets black for half a second to 2 seconds every now and then (from 3 seconds to a few minutes, no pattern). When image comes back, sometime there a sort of an horizontal line of raw pixels scrolling from top to down of the screen between older frame displayed and the refreshed one. Does someone know what could be causing this? And how to address it. It feels like I am almost there... but not. Thanks a lot to this community in advance.

I have an AMD Ryzen (TUF Gaming) Windows 10 laptop with a Geforce card and HDMI output. Try what I may, it fails to drive a decade-old 30" dual-link DVI Apple monitor. My current setup uses two powered convertors: 1. HDMI -> DisplayPort (powered convertor; Comsol brand) 2. DisplayPort -> Mini DisplayPort (unpowered adapter; generic) 3. Mini DisplayPort to Dual-link DVI (powered convertor; Apple brand) However, Windows can't even identify a monitor is connected. The Cinema Display has a black screen with power light on. In the past, I successfully used links #2 and 3 of this chain with a DisplayPort-enabled laptop. But the new HDMI -> DP convertor (link #1) seems to break the chain. Any ideas? Even if only to get it working at low resolution? -- Other things I tried: 1. Generic USB-C to Mini DisplayPort convertor didn't work. (The laptop has a non-Thunderbolt USB-C 3.1 port) 2. Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter (unpowered) as link #3 didn't work either.

I have a 16", MacBookPro with 4, USB-C ports. I also have a 27", Cinema Display with a USB-Type A (audio), MiniDisplay (video), and MagSafe power connectors. At the rear, it has three, USB-Type A ports. Currently, I use a ULTRADRIVE Kit USB-C™ Multi-Display Modular Dock to connect the monitor to the computer. I'd like to connect a second, 27" Cinema Display to my laptop. It appears that there is a newer model (https://support.apple.com/kb/SP642?locale=en_US) that has more connectivity options. I'd like to know if I can "daisy chain" the older, 27" monitor, to the "newer" 27" monitor, then connect it to the computer, using this adapter. Put another way, will this architecture work? Will both monitors run at their highest resolution rates? Will the power, supplied directly to the "newer" monitor be passed to the older monitor and the computer? I know there are a number of other questions that appear to be similar, but none answer my specific questions.
