I have a problem with my MacBook, after erasing the SSD hard disk, I try to reinstall it by Utility and had a problem like the image below.
It stuck on the step because “INIT transmit failed”
Then, I try to reinstall my recovery from the internet and got a problem like that.
Does anyone know the -1008F meaning? please help.
**Solved**:
The problem happened again to me last month when I tried to reinstall my Mac from the Internet. I tried it many times, but did not succeed, I suffered on the internet and found that I still not remove the MacBook from iCloud. I tried and succeeded, so I think if anyone has the same problem as me, you should follow my way first.

I have a number of issues with a MacBook 2009 15” running Leopard.I wish to upgrade to El Capitan if possible. Do I alter the computer time and date so it corresponds with the download as I can remember from past experience on an iMac I had to do just that. I used Internet Recovery but Cmd+R or Cmd+Opt+R doesn't seem to show it just goes straight to the front login page, perhaps Leopard doesn't have that function. I don't have the original Leopard startup disks for this model only a 2009 MacBook 13” which probably won't work. If someone could give me a guide on what exactly I should do it would be most appreciated.
Secondly, I have a blue/white vertical bar on the center left of the screen. It doesn't show up when I connect to an external monitor.

Same issue as related in this thread but I already did the following:
- Re-created a new GPT (GUID) partition table (using GParted, Ubuntu)
- Created an HFS+ partition specifically for my MacOS
- Re-created an EFI system partition of +500Mb
And yet, when using the Internet Recovery Mode, two things happen:
1. The wrong MacOS is being downloaded (Mac OS X Yosemite, instead of Monterrey)
2. The HFS+ partition created does not show.
-----------------
**What did I miss?**
A possible solution would be to reformat the hard drive using Diskutil (Terminal, Recovery Mode) but no idea how to target the correct hard drive.
-----------------
This what my partition table looks like from GParted:
And this is what my Disk Utility shows on Recovery Mode:
-----------------
Things to take into consideration:
- I used to have an APFS hard drive before. But that must have been replaced by the HFS+ partition.
- I did not use FileVault or encrypted the disk (have had a lot of problems in using that).

I am using an iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2011) with High Sierra 10.13.6. I have installed Windows 7 SP1 via Boot Camp and a bootable disk. It was working fine.
So the other day, I decided to create a new partition on Windows using Windows 7 SP1 and it did warn me that I can only boot an OS from this partition. It did create a new partition (usable). I then checked the Boot Camp help system and it said that there was only 1 startup disk I could use, which is labeled Windows. And that is how I know i have made a big mistake. The following day I proceeded to hold down the option key while starting the iMac and normally it would show 3 options: Windows, macOS 10.13.6 and Recovery 10.13.6. (I am not sure about the names.) But, now it only shows the Windows option. So, I then restart my mac into Internet Recovery mode and it just stuck at ETA 24:00. It wont even move after 1 hour, and it gives me an exclamation mark in a triangle over the globe. Can you guys help me fix this please. I have tried to reset the NVRAM and PRAM, but it is still the same. I think it is because of my internet slowness, but there has to be another way right?

Some background: I have a 2010 27" Intel-based Mac that I managed to brick by trying to reinstall the OS and wipe the main disk.
Now due to the changes from what I can gather by the address Mac uses I was unable to contact the server hosting the image.
After restarting, thinking I would be able to get back into the recovery menu, I am now presented with the grey folder icon with a question mark upon it.
I have a USB Drive with Sierra on it to reinstall, however I am unable to actually open the boot menu to select the drive. Holding Alt/Option doesn't seem to work, even after clearing the NVRAM with Option+Command+R+P.
Currently when I do boot with Command+Option+R or Command+R, it launches internet recovery. Here it is stuck at:
Internet Recovery. This may take a while.
Otherwise I can also get it to launch the "newer" internet recovery where it has a grey globe where is eventually gets to display :00
that never starts counting down.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I can try?

A colleague of mine gave me an old Mac mini (Mid 2011 2.5GHz, model A1347 ) that I wanted to put back to work mainly for fun.
The Mini came without an HDD, so I bought a new SSD (Samsung 870 Evo, 500GB) and installed it inside the Mac following the guide at iFixIt with no problems.
Then, I created a bootable USB flash drive with macOS High Sierra (10.13), known to be compatible with my model. However, when the loading bar below the Apple logo arrives to about 70%, my monitor seems to reset and a grey screen appears, and nothing else happens. I tried to leave it for some hours but nothing changed.
I also tried to boot from internet recovery: It successfully downloads the internet recovery image, but then after the loading bar arrives ~70%, it gets stuck on the same grey screen.
I also launched Apple Diagnostic (holding D and later Option+D during startup), run the "long" test and it says *no troubles found*.
I also tried the following:
- Reset the NVRAM and SMC.
- Boot with cmd+option+R, cmd+shift+option+R, and cmd+R (both with Wi-Fi and Ethernet)
- Boot with cmd+S to get into single user mode: here everything seems ok, I run
fsck
on every /dev/disk*
and it tells everything is fine. Then I type exit
to continue the boot process, and it gets stuck to the same grey screen.
- Boot with cmd+V (i.e. verbose mode), there don't appear to be errors where it gets stuck, instead, the screen again blinks and goes gray forever (same as above).
- Tried to use the bootable USB stick with other OS versions, such as Yosemite (10.10), El Capitan (10.11), and Sierra (10.12).
- Connected an HDMI display instead of DisplayPort from the Thunderbolt port.
None of these worked, the Mac always gets stuck to the grey screen. I do not think it has a discrete GPU, and even if it had it, I tried some boot-args to disable it with no success.
Is there anything else I can try to get this machine back to work?

I need to re-intall macOS Catalina on my Mac Mini 2018. SSD was wiped out.
## Trial 1: Internet Recovery (
Running Apple Diagnostic (obviously?) ends up in: **No issues found.**
Rebooting and retrying the installation then always (no matter how many times I try) leads to: **macOS could not be installed on your computer**
## Trial 2: USB key ##
From another Mac, I downloaded Catalina and made a USB key:
And when trying to change the said setting: **No administrator was found.**
## Trial 3:
I still try to unlock USB port, as the login / password was already asked and accepted, but: **The current RecoveryOS has no access to security settings.**
With nothing left to lose, I wipe out the SSD with Disk Utility, and retry the Monterey recovery installation. I accept the software license agreement, and then: **An error occurred loading the update.**
## Trial 4: Apple Time Machine ##
I did a Time Machine backup from the other Mac (macOS Monterey) to an external hard drive. The Time Machine hard drive is well recognized on the Mac Mini, but: **No macOS system backups were found.**
I guess Apple Time Machine backs up only the Data partition from Monterey, not the OS partition ...
So, I tried with a Time Machine backup of High Sierra (without separate Data partition): **You can't restore this backup because this Mac does not support booting from HFS.**
## Trial 5: Disk Utility Backup / Restore Image ##
I backed up the Monterey full drive as a
Alt
+ Shift
+ Cmd
+ R
or Alt
+ R
) ##
*Disclaimer: I have a Gigabit Internet connection, without any known issues.*
All looks good until: **macOS could not be installed on your computer**

softwareupdate -d --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.15.6
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/UNTITLED
But, trying to reboot on the USB key: **Security settings do not allow this Mac to use an external startup disk.**

dd
##
Yes, I even tried from the terminal to dump the USB installation key into the SSD, hoping it would reboot on it ... but no, it ignores the SSD and restarts instead on the Internet Recovery mode.
So I tried restoring a dump of a full Monterey hard drive, from another working Mac. The Mac Mini boots on Recovery Mode, a User / Password is requested and accepted (maybe due to the fact that the Monterey drive is encrypted?). I then try a recovery installation of Monterey but: **The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.BuildInfo.preflight.error error21.)**

dmg
image from the other Mac, and tried to restore it on the Mac Mini SSD. I select the image file, but the "Restore" button is completely unresponsive: I can only click "Cancel".
I feel trapped in an Apple loop: I cannot allow booting on USB because the disk is clean without any administrator account, and I cannot create an administrator account because I cannot install macOS from an USB key.
Thank you in advance for any suggestion.
P.S.: SSD is soldered, so no option here to install from a different computer.

I learned to solve this by going into internet recovery mode and reinstalling MacOS.
Now the big problem is I don’t have enough free space to reinstall MacOS now. What do I do?
Note: I have a windows bootcamp partition which if cleared into Macintosh HD would give me more than enough space. But I don’t know how to remove it without bootcamp assistant, which I can’t access as I can’t get onto MacOS/Macintosh.

I need a list or a screenshot of them to replicate them because the bootable created in Windows Transmac just has a PKG file therefore not recognized as a bootable device.
I tried creating a blank file named
boot.efi
and it gets recognized as a bootable device, but it is the Windows 10 installed in the other ´´internal drive´´ that boots up. As I remember, there are more files.
I opened the DMG file in Transmac and saw the files. There is only the PKG file. This means Transmac only makes a copy of the files of in the DMG and does not make the USB bootable. So, I need to know which files are created with the Terminal that makes the USB bootable.
I don't have other way. I can’t get to Internet Recovery in any possible way. I don’t own a second mac. I can't create a macOS VM, because no VM app for Windows supports DMG as I have tried already. When trying to convert DMG to ISO, I get a broken file that can’t boot in any VM.

After attempting to remove a Kali Linux partition through Disk Utility on macOS High Sierra, I ended up with a drive that had a type of just
FFFFFFF-FFFFF
.
I proceeded to try to fix that through using Internet Recovery, where I entered the following commands into Terminal:
gpt -r show disk0
diskutil umountDisk disk0
gpt remove -i 2 disk0
gpt add -i 2 -b 409640 -s 431203056 -t 7C3457EF-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC disk0
This removed the partition type from being F
, however, I am unsure if that led to the fact that I cannot access the drive's full storage. (I also somehow have 24 partitions...)
I am now looking to reinstall macOS through Internet Recovery, but I cannot even mount my largest volume, disk0s2
, which results in a fatal error.
I have attached several photos of the situation, and unsure of what to do next.
Please help!!

When I start up internet recovery to reinstall Mac OS X Lion, everything seems fine until I hit "Install", when the Mac freaks out and says there are -2.1 billion hours remaining on the install. I've tried to use a seperate installer app downloaded to a USB and run through the terminal, but that says it cannot find the components on the internet needed to reinstall macOS. Do you know what's happening?

Old MacBook Pro (mid-2011) running OS X Sierra was out of commission as the power supply had gone bad. I got a new power supply and fired it up. I was greeted with a warning from Chrome that it would no longer be updated unless I updated the OS. Trying to stream something, got an error about enabling DRM, which apparently needs the newer Chrome version.
According to Apple support pages this machine should be able to run High Sierra.
I downloaded the High Sierra installer and ran it. After about an hour, it exited and said the OS could not be installed. It said I could restart, or I could restart and hold the D key to run diagnostics. I did the diagnostic restart, ran all the tests, and it said it identified no issues.
When I restarted though, I quickly got a kernel panic, and then it just went in a reboot-panic-reboot loop. So I booted to internet recovery. It brings up the screen that says click to continue setting up High Sierra, but then a few seconds later I get a dialog box saying "The recovery server could not be contacted".
I verified that it was connected to the internet (it's on the same wi-fi I'm using to post this) and I also used the terminal to reset the system time...no difference. I've been hitting continue periodically for the last several hours and I always get the same message.
I ran the disk utility and it said there were no issues. I also used the network utility to verify that I can ping google, so it appears the network connection is working. I checked the Apple server status page and they seem to indicate everything is up and running.
So what else can I try? This machine does not appear to have a recovery partition on the disc. Probably a remnant of it being a dual apple/windows machine some years back.

I launched the latest version of internet recovery mode by using option-command-r while restarting the computer. After that I used the Terminal and typed
diskutil list /dev/disk0
and got:

followed by diskutil info /dev/disk0

Space manager is invalid.
** The volume /dev/disk0 could not be verified completely.
after which I used fsck_apfs -y /dev/disk0s2
and got the exact same output.
I notice the space manager is invalid, but is that the cause of my unbootable partition/drive? If yes, how do I solve it? If no, what could it be?

Macbook won't boot from USB or do Internet Recovery after deleting main volume

After [encountering some errors](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/461796/determine-if-macbook-pro-hard-drive-is-damaged-or-repairable) with the main volume of my 2019 Macbook Pro, I deleted the volume (and, I think, recreated it), expecting to be able to reinstall MacOS on it from Recovery. (I believe there was a recovery partition there, but there's no way to check now. It's a 512 GB drive with encrypted APFS volumes.)
Internet Recovery appears not to work. After entering the wi-fi password (correctly), it returns to the "Choose network" page.
I have now tried using a bootable Ubuntu USB stick and a bootable Windows 10. In both cases, after holding down Option, I get to a page that looks like this:
Selecting either "EFI Boot" then goes into the same "Choose network" page and doesn't get anywhere. (It's not clear whether the computer is attempting boot from one of these images, or, perhaps more likely, attempting to recover onto it).
(If I don't hold down Option, we just go straight into the failed Internet Recovery path, without the "EFI Boot" options.)
So...currently I can not get anything to boot in any form here.
Ultimately, I would like to get to one of these situations (in decreasing order of preference):
1. Dual-boot Ubuntu/MacOS
2. Single boot Ubuntu
3. Booting Ubuntu on an external drive (ie, give up on the internal drive completely)
What can I try next?

Step 1: Cloned my entire drive (which had Windows) on an external hard drive.
Step 2: Used Internet Recovery to format the drive **Mac OS Extended (Journaled)**, and then the problem started.
Step 3: I shut down the system as instructed and once again launched Internet Recovery in order to install the macOS.
After all the standard procedure, this popped up and I don't know what to do from here. Where can I find those "additional components" and how to install them?

I have an Apple Mac Mini M1 Silicon which I have kept updated (now Ventura). However, I want to wipe it and reinstall MacOS. However, when I go to Recovery its telling me I have "Reinstall Monterey". I don't understand why when I upgraded to Ventura it didn't update the recovery partition. I have connected the Mac to the internet but I can only get it to install Monterey - I can't find out how to do an internet recovery anywhere in the menus or on the internet.
I guess this means I need to reinstall Monterey, then upgrade to Ventura. Which is a complete waste of time.
Is my Mac Mini faulty or how can I force it to update the recovery partition?
Any help greatly appreciated.

How do I enable USB boot after deleting my recovery partition?
I did a rather careless thing while in disk recovery (I was wiping a MacBook Pro 2018 for re-use) and I accidentally deleted the root volume, which means everything. I did a rather careless thing while in disk recovery (I was wiping a MacBook Pro 2018 for re-use) and I accidentally deleted the root volume, which means everything.
Because I don't have a recovery partition, I can't get the network recovery console to reinstall.
And because I didn't enable booting via USB before doing this, I can't even get a bootable installer to work.
What options do I have here that don't involve a trip to the Apple store and lightening of my wallet, if any?
