How do I boot into recovery mode on an HTC Dream/G1?

Is there anything else I can try? Does it differ for different specific HTC Dream models, or something?
It might be relevant that I've downgraded this phone down to Android 1/RC29 following tutorials. I've also noticed that the Call + Menu + Power combination to reboot the phone doesn't work, either.

G1 Create Image of Current State
Is it possible to create an image of my phone (G1, cupcake) so that I may revert back to it at a later date? I'm not scared of using the Android SDK, I only needs the steps to create the file.

Updating T-Mobile G1 from 1.0 to 1.6
I have a T-Mobile G1 phone (Dev Phone) with android 1.0. To be able to install some apps, I needed to update it to 1.6. So I downloaded an update file and put it on its sdcard. But the update failed and now the problem is that I cannot boot the phone completely. First it asks for a SIM card.

G1 - Can I Update to Newer Versions of Android?
I'm considering getting a G1 from T-Mobile (in the US), and am wondering, can I can update to new versions of Android as they come out, even ones targeted towards newer Android phones? For example, would I be able to update my G1 to Android 2.0 when it is available?

Auto shutdown after about 15 minutes

Ideally, I'd like to somehow cause that G1 to emit a wifi access point, so that whenever the G1 and the Gentouch are in close proximity, the Gentouch can piggyback off the G1's internet connection and reach the internet itself. Assuming I am willing/able to root both devices if necessary, how would I accomplish such a task?

Also, I have been unable to find drivers for this cell phone to connect my micro-SD memory card in cell phone to my Windows 7 Home 64-bit OS. I believe the problem is because I have a 64-bit OS. Where can I find the drivers?
Thanks in advance.

I have a T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream, rooted, running CM6. It froze up at the lock screen, and after trying everything I popped the battery out and rebooted. However, this didn't solve the problem; I still couldn't get past the lock screen. After rebooting again (via battery removal, because nothing else worked), I only get a black screen (LCD on but blank). The problem seems different than other questions here on the site because I don't ever see the T-Mobile splash screen. I've tried Home+Power, Call+Menu+Power, Camera+Power, and none of those combos have allowed me to boot into recovery or factory reset, I still just see a black screen. When I plug in USB, the computer does not see the SD card.
Update: Now the LCD doesn't turn on either. Perhaps this is a problem with the ribbon after all? But that doesn't explain the freezing/booting issues.
Update: Although I only get a black screen, the phone does vibrate when I turn it on (using any of the key combinations mentioned above).

These files differ. **My question is: which of them (or both?) is safe to use before flashing DangerSPL for the first time?**
NB. The main difference between them seems to be that their
META-INF/com/google/android/update-script
files differ thus:
* dream_magic.radio-2.22.19.26i-signed.zip:
assert getprop("ro.product.device") == "dream" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "dream" || getprop("ro.product.device") == "sapphire" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "sapphire"

Can a Dream's camera really zoom from the camera app?
I upgraded my HTC Dream to CM6.1, and the camera app now has a zoom option. Is this a real zoom, or just a digital blow-up of the image? I'm guessing the latter.

> [Where can I find stock or custom ROMs for my Android device?](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/17152/where-can-i-find-stock-or-custom-roms-for-my-android-device)
I am currently using Cyanogenmod-5 (Android 2.1) for my HTC Dream G1. But it runs quite slow and I dont want to go back to Android 1.x series.
I am looking for some other Android 2.1 OS (other than Cyanogenmod) which are faster and have low memory requirements or does it remain the same among all Android 2.1 distributions?
Another reason for change is that every 1 or 2 months, Cyanogenmod-5 starts behaving funny and I need to re-install my OS. For example, currently I am unable to read any texts (Messaging service - SMS) on my phone; application keeps on crashing. In the past similar issues were with Gmail and GTalk.
So, I want to switch to something other than Cyanogenmod but Android-2.1. Any suggestions?
