I got in my hand an old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro from 12 years ago and this is a quite nice, beautiful, and outdated Android. I do have however interest in seeing how modern mobile apps behave on this device.
The default Android browser simply doesn't open any page anymore, but I got it rooted and installed the first Opera version (6.x) I found on APK Mirror.
Does anyone know which exact version is the most modern browser that this Android 1.6 device can run?

Updating T-Mobile G1 from 1.0 to 1.6
I have a T-Mobile G1 phone (Dev Phone) with android 1.0. To be able to install some apps, I needed to update it to 1.6. So I downloaded an update file and put it on its sdcard. But the update failed and now the problem is that I cannot boot the phone completely. First it asks for a SIM card.

Are old APKs for Google Android apps available for download from some official or trusted source?
I just reset my G1, and would like to reinstall some of the (older) Google apps that don't appear to be available in the Market* anymore.
Google did make some older versions of their apps available, but not everything that I'd like to get back. For example, I was able to update to Google Maps version 5.6.2, though the newest version in Google Play is (I think) 6.9.0, but Google Listen doesn't any longer appear to be available through the Market app on the G1.
**Update:** Though searching for "listen" or "google listen" within the Market app does not turn up a listing for the target app, nor does viewing a list of applications by publisher "Google Inc.", I was able to get the Google Listen app through the Market, by going to the web browser, and navigating to https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.apps.listen , and then letting the Market app handle the redirected Intent.
I'd still like to know if an official or trusted source is available to download old APKs published by Google.
*It's still called the Market on the G1 running 1.6 Donut. I'm guessing Google didn't bother to make the new Google Play store compatible with old devices/versions.

Brand new LG GT540, everything works except for the Market. Clicking on Install on any App resultings in it sitting on 'Starting download..." for several seconds then as soon as it changes to "Downloading..." it fails with 'Download was unsuccessful, please try again'.
This is not a duplicate of 'Sometimes Market update get stuck downloading, how can I cancel? ' which is 'sometimes' and about cancelling. The answers do not work/are not relevant. It is also not a duplicate of 'Android market - Application downloading problem ' which sits at 'Starting Download...' for several hours.
There are several solutions floating around on the web, but like myself, it seems to not solve it for a vast amount of people. I believe there is more than 1 bug with downloading from the market but they are getting treated like one.
Firstly, there is the GTalk related issue. This is not relevant in this case. GTalk signs in correctly and works. Signing out of GTalk and back in does nothing to fix the issue. Neither does clearing the data out of the GTalk App and/or Google Apps and rebooting the phone. It is not a GoogleMail/GMail issue either as this is not in the UK and has always been a GMail account.
Secondly, it is not solved by clearing the cache/data out of Checkin Service/Downloader/Market, etc. I had done this clearing/force stop on ALL the applications suggested across the web and rebooting the phone. This has been done several times with no effect.
Thirdly a factory reset doesn't work either. Makes sense considering this behaviour has been straight out of the box.
**EDIT**: I have also tried unmounting the SD card, removing it, rebooting the phone and trying to download with no difference.
**EDIT 2**: Clearing everything and signing into the Market with a brand new account made no difference.
Any other ideas on what the **cause of the issue** is and **how to fix it**?

I'm having issues to upgrade my tablet to the 2.2 system. It's a generic tablet, from Kaser, I'm using it to develop a specific application. Now the specs changed, and I need it to run on 2.2. I had a look at their website and there is no info about the upgrading. Is it possible?

Also, I have been unable to find drivers for this cell phone to connect my micro-SD memory card in cell phone to my Windows 7 Home 64-bit OS. I believe the problem is because I have a 64-bit OS. Where can I find the drivers?
Thanks in advance.

I upgraded my Galaxy 551 from 1.6 to 2.2 Android version some time ago with Samsung Kies, now I want to make a factory reset due to reset all of my settings and give the phone to my mother.
I'm wondering about wich version the factory reset will bring to me. It is the factory version (1.6) or the upgraded version (2.1)?

- wether they support VERY OLD android versions

I have android 1.6 on an old phone (Xperia X10), it is full of MMS (I already extracted all the SMS with myphoneexplorer), full of story, and if I update it to android 2.0...I will lose all this. I guess with the ADB driver I have access to almost all the phone memory, so can anyone tell me if there is a way to backup all the MMS, with their metadata (who sent them, when), from my old android 1.6?
It's here, somewhere in the phone memory, but how do I access it and backup everything...if possible in a readable format (even by the software, to check by myself that it has indeed copied the desired data!)?
The search is very hard, I thought I had found it with "Message Sync"...until I understood this app is only for android 2.1 or later. Always 2.something!
Thank you very much, it would help me a lot!

I now want to buy an Archos device that should be an alternative to iPod and its size should be like the iPod.
I saw there are different Archos devices.
I am doubting between the Internet tablet (Android 2.2 Froyo) 43 and the 48 /5 (Android v1.6 Donut).
What is a better OS? What is more advanced?
My desires:
Mandatory:
- Audio/Video playback (flash)
- Wifi (Gmail, GCal sync)
- eBook reader
- Pocket size (iPod size or so)
Desired but not mandatory:
- Voice mic (for potential web conversation, and recording)
- Video/photo camera
- FM receiver
BTW, I just saw Android 3.1 is out, is it possible to update these devices with the new OS?

I have Android 1.6 on original G1. I tried to install Last.FM application and it failed. Since then I always see Last.FM there in process of installation and it can't be canceled or removed or anything.
And what's worse: then installation of new application stopped working at all. Coming back always after a while with "[application] failed to download. Try again later".
Any idea, how to "unblock" the market again?
