I have an MP4 that I want as my live wallpaper. I can set it, but only through an app. The app does not, of course - automatically at startup - select the file, then set it as a live wallpaper. As I understand it, Android, unlike iOS, does not support live wallpapers WITHOUT an app.
Is there a way to create a live wallpaper that will remain stable in my system?
- What I tried: I installed - and uninstalled - a host of video-to-wallpaper apps, in the hope that one might have a start-up option in the settings. None did.
- I have Google wallpapers installed. In it, I went to "live wallpapers", one of the things there was the video-to-live-wallpaper app, I selected it, it gave me the MP3, and I set it as the live wallpaper. Restarted the phone - gone.
- I've set the live wallpaper in the app, in the phone's launcher settings, and in the Android system settings, all to no avail.
Every single time I start the phone I have to open the app, find the MP4, and set it as the live wallpaper - again.
Alternatively: can that MP4 be converted to a live wallpaper format that does NOT require some outside app to be running in the background supporting it?
Phone running Android 12.

Since each home screen image overrode the last, I had to repeat these steps to accumulate all the downloaded images into the default album. Now, Wallpaper Changer isn't defaulting to the home screen image location anymore. How can I re-direct it? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Phone is killing important background/sync processes (Wiko Lenny 3) – what to do?
My friend recently bought a [Wiko “Lenny 3”](http://de.wikomobile.com/m1205-lenny3), which runs Android 6.0. 1 After a short while of using it, it seems that this phone is configured by the manufacturer to very aggressively kill background apps, even ones that *should* be left running. My friend recently bought a [Wiko “Lenny 3”](http://de.wikomobile.com/m1205-lenny3) , which runs Android 6.0.1
After a short while of using it, it seems that this phone is configured by the manufacturer to very aggressively kill background apps, even ones that *should* be left running.
For example:
- Apps that should be running in the background and syncing/polling for messages, such as [K9-Mail (email client)](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9) or the [Signal messenger](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms) , apparently aren’t left running.
Often, when opening K9-Mail or Signal, 10 or more emails/messages/texts will suddenly “arrive” all at once, many of which are hours old by then, so those apps clearly weren’t working in the background like they should’ve been and only got the chance to poll when they were manually (re-)opened by the user.
This means that even basic availability and message reception (part of the whole point of a phone, one would think) is not working reliably!
- We put a calendar widget (belonging to [Google Calendar](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.calendar)) and a news app’s widget ([SPIEGEL ONLINE](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.spiegel.android.app.spon)) on the home screen, both of which are just blank after the phone is started and are only “resurrected” by fiddling with them manually (still haven’t figured out a reliable procedure).
- If a live wallpaper is set, then after some time of using the phone (filling the RAM with other apps, presumably) or after rebooting, the phone’s wallpaper will be reset to the default, static one (Wiko logo).
This also depends on whether the live wallpaper is set from the home screen (where it already disappears e.g. just from opening the “recent apps” screen) or from the settings (where it lasts longer, but still not permanently).
Curiously, this only seems to affect live wallpapers that aren’t pre-installed (Phase Beam etc.), such as [Galactic Core](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fishnoodle.spacescapewallpaper_free) or [Pixel Rain](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gilleland.software.pixelrain) .
Videos:
[Live wallpaper cleared by “recent apps”](https://sendvid.com/lyr0ptpl)
[Live wallpaper cleared by opening Firefox](https://sendvid.com/9iqz44rh)
A large part of the marketing/“bonus features” for this phone seems to revolve around battery life and “optimizing” performance.
It includes a pre-installed “Phone Assistant” app (cannot be disabled!) where different levels of battery saving can be set up, background apps can be killed and so on.
This app also puts a “One Clean” icon on the “all apps” screen whose function seems to be killing all currently-running user apps (it plays an animation and announces having freed XXX MB of memory).
Tapping this “One Clean” icon always resets the wallpaper to the static default if a (non-pre-installed) live wallpaper was set, which is why I think all this has to do with an overly aggressive background app policy (even the live wallpaper process gets killed).
[Demonstration of “One Clean” (clearing live wallpaper again)](https://sendvid.com/o4wp8az7)
Unfortunately, even whitelisting everything in the “Phone Assistant” and disabling as many battery saving/“optimizing” features as possible didn’t alleviate the problem.
(I haven’t tested this, but I suspect that the built-in email, calendar etc. apps pushed on you by the manufacturer, most of which can’t even be disabled, are spared this violent treatment, so many people owning the phone might not really notice these issues.
Just an idea.)
Because of these issues with the manufacturer-provided setup, I’m very eager to install a custom ROM on the phone.
However, none of the popular ones (e.g. [Cyanogenmod](https://www.cyanogenmod.org/devices) or [Paranoid Android](http://get.aospa.co/)) seem to support this phone and I certainly don’t want to brick it!
Does anyone have any experience with a phone that behaves like this?
What would be the best course of action?
Is there a (comparatively) risk-free way to try a custom ROM or can I do anything from within the manufacturer-provided installation?

_Edit (2016-12-27):_ It seems that these issues with Wiko phones are becoming more well-known and affect an entire line of models (Wiko phones on Android 6 (Marshmallow) with only 1 GB of RAM).
Even those low-tier Wiko models which came with Android 4 on release and were only later updated to Android 6 seem to then exhibit the problems I described (non-functional widgets, background/synchronization issues etc.) due to Wiko’s messed-up implementation – even though there were no issues before the update.
See, for example: http://ludditus.com/2016/08/10/the-verdict-on-wiko-robby-two-weeks-later/

So it has come to my attention that Live Wallpapers are not actually images but more of like, applications that are active in the background. This causes it to be a bit of a battery hog. So I was thinking, if I can just use a GIF instead (like how I did on older Nokia dumbphones), then that would at least decrease the battery usage while still having my wallpaper do some activity.
When trying to set a sample GIF as wallpaper, it is asking me to crop it which I guess, in turn, removes its animation. How do I make it so that a GIF of my choice is used as the wallpaper on my phone while still retaining its animation?

It's not as though 9 doesn't support them, the first time I installed a live wallpaper, I was able to click 'open' on the package installer and set it, but now since it doesn't provide an app icon I can't go back to it if I change to something else. I'm running the LineageOS 16 based Resurrection Remix custom ROM on a OnePlus 3.

I recently purchased Tasker after having it recommended to me by several people. I am trying to take an image from a website (Unsplash Source ) and set it as my background daily. As I am relatively new to using Tasker I tried looking for a tutorial on how to do this on but couldn't find one that worked for me. I found other examples that used different websites but have been unable to correctly adapt their instructions to fit the website I am using. I want to use this URL to download the picture from daily (https://source.unsplash.com/2560x1440/?nature/). Is there a way I can do this with Tasker? If so can you please show me how?
Thanks for helping me.

I got my new Honor 8 this past Monday, and after extensive tweaking (including hair pulling and uttering of words not approriate in respectable company), I got it to work and look the way I want it to, except for one thing. The scrolling background of Apex Launcher simply refuses to work. I've browsed through the system settings and the Apex settings until I've gone blind. I've tried to change the background setting of Apex to non-scrolling, restarting, changing it back to scrolling and restarting again, but I simply can't find a way to get this working. Is there a way?
I'm using Wallpaper Changer as live background, but I've tried disabling it, and instead using EMUI's native function to randomly change the background image, but this makes no difference. I've also tried setting Wallpaper Changer to use static background rather than live background. This also makes no difference. The image is cropped to the physical screen resolution (1080x1920) and the leftmost part of it shown on all screens.
For example, this image
is shown like this, regardless of which screen I'm on
I've rooted, and because of issues with TWRP and SuperSU on EMUI 5.0, I won't upgrade until those are resolved.
I'm not in any way affilated with with any software mentioned above, I'm simply a user. The images above have been created by myself, and you are free to download and use them as you see fit.
UPDATE: This suddenly started working. I don't know what fixed it, so I don't think this can be classified as an answer. It started working after I shut down to replace the SIM, because the transfer of my number from my old carrier to my new one had just been done. After booting up again, the scrolling background was working. As far as I can remember, I had changed no settings since I last rebooted. I did receive an update to Wallpaper Changer, but that came **after** the scrolling background had already started working, and the changelog only mentions adding the ability to darken the wallpaper. A mystery, but I'll leave it at that, unless someone has any ideas about what has happened here.

See how it just scaled? I am just wondering if there is a way to set the image that is used. I have noticed HTC live wallpapers look great, but I don't know if they have that image in their system files or in the actual apk.
Thanks.
