I've been a happy owner of an Acer Iconia A500 for a bit over a year now but a couple of weeks ago it started to complain about its internal memory being full. I was a bit surprised as I keep movies, and such on the external SD card but I assumed is was some browser cache, Maps or so which had eaten up a fair chunk of the 32G memory it has internally. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. I have cleared the data of almost every single App I have installed but still if I look at the Storage tab of the settings I see the following (a couple of hours ago): 700M+643M+0.2M+64M+98M is clearly not 27G I get the feeling that the rightmost grey part of the bar should be a bit more than 379MB(the Available part)... (SD Card at the bottom of the picture is the external one, never mind that one). I've tried almost every disk usage app available out there and they all show similar results, the following is DiskView (picture taken after I removed a few apps): DiskView output (in this picture "SD Card" is the internal one...) One thing all the disk usage apps seems to have in common is that unless the device is rooted, they cannot see what is in some directories (like /data) which makes me think it is either Android itself (4.0.3 on this device) which has some kind of cache which is misbehaving or that some process is producing extreme amounts of logs somewhere. Sorry for this long intro, but the basic question is: How do I proceed? I guess one alternative is to find what is worth backing up and do a factory reset or something but I wold really like to find out what happened first. Rooting it is an alternative which would probably help me find out more but I sort of like it as it is (except for this issue). If it is needed to resolve it I could of course do it but it feels like you shouldn't have to with an appliance like this. Is there another way forward? I have this naive hope that there is a button somewhere I haven't seen that clears all logs or reduce the log level from debug to info. **Edit:** One thing I've been considering but cannot investigate is if it could be cores. I've had a lot of crashes lately (presumably because it has been running low on disk). In response to Izzy's comment below. Apps adds up to more or less exactly the 700MB listed as "Apps" (seems to be the total of data and the apps themselves).

The tablet comes with Honey 3.0, but I read that the 3.2 update is ready to be delivered OTA. But I absolutely want to root it! 1. Can I root the device after the OS upgrade? 2. Or should I root it first? 3. Or, does upgrade remove rooting and currently there's no [yet] rooting for HC3.2? Thank you

Its more of a touch screen question than an Android question, but it pertains to an Android device so... I got my Dad an Acer A510 for Christmas and he has been very frustrated with it, especially the touch screen. I noticed that when he taps the screen it does not respond as readily as when I tap it. So my question is: do touch screens not respond as well to older (drier) fingers? He lives in New Mexico, and probably has relatively dry skin. Alternatively, is he just doing it wrong and skin type has nothing to do with it?

I have an stock-standard Acer Iconia A500 32G WiFi-only tablet. The screen usually turns on immediately when I press the power button. However, it sometimes refuses to respond and I have to hold done the power button for a few seconds, then release it and hold it down for a few seconds again. At that point, there'll be a vibration and the tablet will boot through the Acer and android screens. My thoughts are that the first sustained button actually powers it down forcefully and the second brings it back up (but I can't be certain of this). Does anyone know why this would happen? Are there any things I can look at on the file system to see what's going wrong. --- To elaborate on the non-responsiveness issue, while in most circumstances a quick push of the power button will bring up the PIN entry screen, it doesn't do so in the problematic cases. In those cases, the screen just remains black no matter how many times I push the power button. That's why I then have to do the long-press twice to (presumably) force shutdown and restart.

This is the first of a series of questions about "the broken tablet saga". Basically I have an Acer A500 with broken touchscreen to get ready for warranty. I won't ask all of my questions in a single topic. I want to make a full backup of my tablet without using the touchscreen. The tablet is rooted. How do I - **without using the touchscreen** - make a NANDROID backup of it to be restored on the replacement device Acer will hopefully send to me? (Or just to restore the repaired tablet) I currently don't have the device in my hands. I suppose it is equipped with the classic ClockworkMod recovery. As a backup plan, I would like to know what can I do to install ClockworkMod without touchscreen support. I'll have the device in my hands in a few hours. I would like to be prepared for that (including downloading any additional software or firmware from an unlimited data connection) [Update] I must install CWM **without** using Acer Recovery Installer. I can't find a link to a binary and instructions on how to flash a recovery (there are plenties of tutorials for download mode on Samsungs)

I've recently purchased an Acer Iconia tablet with Android 3.1. Then I adquired an Archos G9 3G USB modem, with the intention of having internet connection on my tablet when not around a wifi (90% of the time for me, sadly). I *thought* using it would be simple, like with a PC: insert the USB modem on the tablet, it recognises it, asks me some questions to configure it and so on. But no, when I insert the USB modem on my tablet it does **absolutely nothing**. I've searched on the net for instructions about this but haven't found any. Is this USB modem intended for using **only** with Archos tablets? Anyone on my situation?

I have a rooted A500 with HC3.2 and I strongly believe that the focus problem is hardware. Since I'm under warranty I don't think I'll waste my time and send the tablet to repair. Two questions: ### How do I fully backup my device (let's say "snapshot") in order to easily restore all apps, wallpapers, settings, etc (possibly accounts too) when it returns? I can easily backup programs, but I don't know about their data. I also have a Bitcoin wallet there, so I need to back my private keys up in order to receive coins at the same address later. ### How do I un-root and downgrade the firmware to Acer's original stock 3.0? When I updated Recovery I did a backup, so I believe the final step is to restore that backup. By the way, does Acer consider rooting a warranty breach for hardware problems? I know many manufacturers don't care if you change their firmware when you send them a device with clear hardware problems, but they eventually restore everything to stock. Thanks.

Is there a solution for poor Acer Iconia A500 playback of MP4 video?
