I have an extra phone, i.e., Samsung SGH-i997, at home. A while back, I installed **Clockwork Recovery** and installed CyanogenMod ROM on it. Then somehow, out of stupidity or accident, it went back into recovery mode, and everything on the phone was wiped. It even deleted Clockwork Recovery, and I guess that even the factory firmware isn't there anymore. Now every time I turn on the phone, it automatically goes to the default recovery mode with 4 options - reboot system now - apply update from SD card - wipe data factory reset - wipe cache partition I have tried switching it to **download mode** and connecting it with my laptop, but the drivers are not recognized. I also tried installing kies, which I thought would help with the driver issue, but it didn't. I guess there isn't any firmware inside that the driver would connect to. Now the only way left to somehow copy something to the phone is via an SD card. I tried copying several different Android firmware and mods to the SD card, but I think the default recovery mode doesn't use the external SD card but the phone's internal SD storage, which i why everybody is using Clockwork Recovery instead of default. I am really tired of searching for a solution to this issue. If anyone out there has done something similar or can somehow show me how to go into the shell, I might be able to find my way. Thanks in advance.

According to xda wiki "The recovery is completely independent of the Android system". Does it mean that, No matter which version of Android I have, the recovery of any version should work. If recovery is independent of android then why does that recovery not working. I am confused.

Hi guys I am setting up an android system for a company, one of the requirements is that "employees can't factory reset/ wipe out data of a device". I have already done the proper implementations on the OS itself. however I was looking throught the recovery.img and boot.img files to see if I could modify any xml file or anything to hide or set password auth for the factory reset and wipe options from the recovery. I know a guy with knowledge would be able to activate it back, however the average employee barely knows what recovery is, so it's really unlikely. It does not matter what type of recovery is needed to achieve this whether its an stock recovery or a twrp or cwm one. any ideas?

Upgraded from KK 4.4.2 to CM 12 Lollipop, can't restore app data (S4 Mini LTE)
After taking a full Nandroid backup of my previous os and apps using CWM recovery, clearing cache and performing a factory wipe, I went ahead and flashed Lollipop. While lollipop runs fine however, I can't seem to be able to restore app data through either the custom recovery (just says "please wait" forever and phone gets stuck in a boot loop afterwards) or using apps on the actual phone. It is rooted (through both going into settings -> developer -> enable root access & also a flashable zip that I used) and both Titanium Backup(hangs at 0% and 1%) as well as Nandroid Manager(says 'error' when attempting to restore apps) both fail to restore. Nandroid manager gave this output at the end: /system/bin/pm: app_process: Permission denied Is there any other way I can restore the app data?

The story to this is that one day I booted up my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) and all my system apps crashed right after I booted my phone, so for example a box would appear saying something like 'Unfortunately, Touchwiz has stopped'. The phone was already rooted, so I installed CWM for my phone and I backed up the phone to my external SD card. The whole reason why I backed up the phone is to tray and get my documents and photos back, but I don't know what exactly has been backed up, I know the system files has been backed up and the ROM. Has my media been backed up? I also need to factory reset my phone to use ODIN, but does a factory reset in CWM delete my internal sdcard? I researched this, and some people say yes and some say no.

Although it flashes and I am able to enter into TWRP, the phone got stuck at LG Logo and the only option left is to flash a kdz through LG Flash Tool again. I have searched for it on several forums but was unable to find the answer. Also, I have tried several apps from Play Store as well. How can I flash **TWRP** or **CWM** which work 100%?

I am working on an Xperia Ray ST18i otherwise known as urushi, unlocked, rooted, last running stock 4.0.4. I was unable to install CWM with ROM manager app, which said it was incompatible with ST18i. I tried to install TWRP, same response. I tried to install CWM with x-Parts app, it said that it installed, but there was nothing there. Finally I found a tip to use the installer of older version of CWM, 5.027. I installed it, and it worked. The installer app recognized the device as an ST18i. I tested that I could reboot into recovery and operate it. Made nandroid backup. Now attempting to install carbon rom 4.4.x. Copied zip to sd card. I extracted the boot.img, installed with fastboot, which responded with Flash operation complete. Rebooted into recovery. Wipe data. Wipe cache. Wipe dalvik. Install zip. Select zip file. CWM starts installing. Finding update package... Opening update package... Installing update... However, aborts with error message: This package is for "ST18i,ST18a,urushi" devices; this is a "". (Status 7) Installation Aborted. Now it appears that the package is correct, the device is an ST18i. But it appears that CWM thinks the device is a "". I tried the option "toggle script asserts" to disable, but it made no difference. (not sure if that is relevant) Elsewhere on the web for someone who had a problem because the name in the package did not did not match name on device, I read some advice about decompressing the zip and editing the updater-script, and re-zipping it and pushing it to the sd card to flash. However, what would I even put in there for the device type, "" ? Or is it possible to comment out that check altogether? Or is there a way to correctly specify to CWM what kind of device it is? Or is there another solution? (and as an aside, is there a better recovery for the Xperia Ray than CWM 5.027?) Thank you for your assistance.

Is there a way to bypass the md5 checking before restore in CWM? This is **not** an issue with an md5 mismatch (the solution to which can be easily found via google/search) The idea is that I am performing many restores (currently tinkering with some of the inner workings) and am not too concerned that the recovery has been altered/corrupted since it's probably been not too long since I last reflashed) and checking the md5sum takes up a fair amount of overhead (2x the read operations). It's not a huge deal but if anyone knows a solution please let me know!

I'm trying to flash my Coolpad 8865u (Vodafone Smart 4 Turbo). I unlocked fastboot and fastboot oem device-info confirms this. However when I try to flash CWM the prompt on my shell hangs at "writing 'recovery'...". When I unplug and replug the USB to get it unstuck it stays "Failed (status read failed (No such device))". However when I force a reboot it works fine. Also I don't know if I'm doing this correctly but when I try to get into fastboot mode by pressing the power button and the +/- volume buttons the text "OFFICIAL" is displayed at the bottom of the screen and the phone vibrates but it does not get me into fastboot mode. It just reboots and keeps rebooting until I release the buttons. Volume up and Power does get me into recovery mode though but there is no option to go to fastboot from there. Finally I am also not sure what CWM image I should be using. I found a recovery.img on a portugese forum and they said it worked fine so that is what I am trying to use but I'm not sure if that is what should be used for the Coolpad 8865u. BTW the whole point of this is that I'm trying to root my device. I don't know of any other way that works but would be open to suggestions. I already tried cyndia impactor and it says none of the bugs were found.

I rooted my device (lenovo 2107a) and then updated new custom firmware with below instructions: - Downloaded new firmware into sdcard/clockworkmod - booted to CWM - selected "backup and restore" -> "advanced restore from internal sdcard" - and chose my custom ROM - Then i selected "system restore" So i saw an error that said cannot restore and restore goes to break. now when boot my device i see a screen that wants to select country code and after select device will reboot again and i see same screen. so i decided to restore my old backup, but even old backup restoring gives me the error that cannot restore. i find the problem, when i open shell with this command: adb.exe shell $su su segmentation fault the problem is that all of data in /system is read-only and i cannot even root with su. i tried everything like re-rooting device, but still i cannot shell as root. mount cannot be run (operation not permitted) adb.exe remount (cannot be execute) fixsu.sh cannot be executed because has not access to /system (everything is read-only) psneuter gives (failed to set prot mask (inappropriate ioctl for device)) is there any way to delete /system and re-upload that or something that can solve my problem?

I have a HTC One X (International model) and have been trying to install Resurrection Remix as a way to get a more modern Android version. I've unlocked the bootloader and installed ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.4.8. I cannot get Resurrection Remix installed. I keep getting this error: > Your recovery is using the new storage layout but the ROM you're trying to install is not. > Flash a compatible recovery and format /data and /sdcard or use a compatible ROM. I've tried 6 different versions of Resurrection Remix, the latest one being cm-12-20150228-UNOFFICIAL-endeavoru-big.zip . It explicitly states it uses the new storage layout, though I still get that error. I followed the steps described in this blog post , and I've also been Googling the error. It seems other people have run into it, though I can't find any actual solution. Should I be using another ROM? Should I use an older/different version of ClockworkMod? Is the error wrong and caused by some issue not related to the ROM layout?

**Question :How to infuse/push/modify/install busybox SU in twrprecovery.img for getting root privilages commands** I want to take backup restore flash change some PM Package management and SM storage Management settings of my android 5.1.1 /6.0 mobile phone through adb shell commands or through twrp terminal without installing twrp or SU or rooting mobile device 1. Firstly I want to take backup of mobile system.img userdata.img through adb pull command and then recover write back adb push My concerns related to first : a. As adb pull reads and copy data but adb push writes on the device b. Will adb push work without rooting mobile phone without root privilages. c. If phone bricked or something gets wrong while rooting and phone is not rooted then will adb push work or not. Steps of commands using for backup of device Adb devices adb reboot bootloader adb pull /dev/block/mmcblk0 mmcblk0.img Adb push mmcblk0.img /dev/block/mmcblk0 mmcblk0.img 2. Using PM package manager on unrooted mobile android 5.1.1 with following commands but error Adb devices adb reboot bootloader adb shell pm set-install-location 2 adb shell pm get-install-location Error of command > /sbin/sh: pm: not found what I understood from above error means that PM binary command file is not available in /sbin/sh/ folder as phone is not rooted so what I think if I put these binary files or install busybox within twrprecovery.img before loading and run temporary pm command so that I don't have to root the device and temporary set the changes in device. If it's possible then kindly share the link for step by step procedure for modifying twrprecovery.img before booting in pc computer windows as I am new novice to adb shell Linux commands 3. Thirdly As whenever I run SM storage manager command adb shell following command on unrooted android 6.0 mobile from it gives following errors Adb devices adb reboot bootloader adb shell sm has-adoptable adb shell sm set -force- adoptable true It gives following errors > /sbin/sh: sm: not found what I understood from above error means that SM binary command file is not available in /sbin/sh/ folder as phone is not rooted so what I think if I put these binary files or install busybox within twrprecovery.img before loading and run temporary pm command so that I don't have to root the device and temporary set the changes in device. If it's possible then kindly share the link for step by step procedure for modifying Twrprecovery.img before booting in pc windows as I am new novice to adb shell Linux commands 4. Now if boot in fastboot mode and run twrprexovery.img or cwgmod recovery.img with these commands and then in twrp or cgmod terminal windows can I run busybox or Super user or PM SM command Adb devices Adb boot bootloader Fastboot boot twrprecovery.img 5. Secondly the whole ideas is that I want to virtually temporary use twrp terminal with busybox or Super user binary to execute services packages like PM (package manager) SM (storage manager) within from twrp recovery menu terminal (loaded in fastboot boot twrprecovery.img mode). Or adb sideload If it's possible technically feasable. If yes then can we modify twrprexovery.img and infuse insert busybox in it before loading or after loading. twrp adb sideload or teminal 6. Thirdly I don't want to install twrp or busybox or any super user binary file inside mobile device and don't want to install anything inside mobile except the changes alteration of settings done after execution of SM PM commands. That is I want to execute PM SM from within twrprecovery.img

I got a nexus 5 off of eBay, the seller said he had tried to root it and failed so I thought I would have a crack at it. I thought it would be an easy restore but I ran into a few problems: Phone originally came with 6.0.1 installed. On android 5+ I could not access the standard recovery screen, and when I pressed power+volUp it just said formatting /data and would not move from that. Rolled back to 4.4 and I got into the ususal recovery screen. Tried to do a factory reset, but it again stuck at formatting /data. I left it the entire night while I slept and it was still saying formatting /data. in the morning, nothing had changed. Trying to boot the phone normally just left it on the 4 circles startup screen. I've tried doing a full flash of stock android with each seperate part manually. Also /data is unable to be mounted in any custom recovery, like it is corrupted or locked somehow. With the stock recovery, it cannot be detected by adb, but in cwm it can. However, it still doesn't allow access to /data. Checking the /data folder in adb shell shows it's completely empty, and the same with system even after flashing and flashing again. Can anyone advise me as to what might be the problem here?

I have a full Nandroid (TWRP type) backup under /storage/emulated/0/TWRP which I want to retrieve to install in the replacement phone. I can connect via fastboot but I cannot connect via ADB (neither via Command-line OR Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit). ClockWorkMod v6.0.2.3 does not give the option to mount USB storage. **I need to retrieve those files. I need to either connect via ADB (in recovery or use fastboot to enable ADB in booted up mode) OR mount USB storage. What are my options?** PS: This thread on XDA Dev does not help in my case as I do not want to erase my phone.

I've spent much time reading up on my issue with no progress at all. I have a problem with a Huawei Ascend G630. I have never rooting my phone or flashing a custom rom. The phone does not work, I can’t reset it by pressing volume up, down and power, and only when it’s on charge, it shows the message: "Recovery image verify failed Please update to the authorized images”. I removed the battery, then, I tried getting it into the recovery mode to reset It or even flash its stock firmware following this instruction to solve it: 1) I downloaded HUAWEI G630 Firmware from here: http://consumer.huawei.com/kh/mobile-phones/support/downloads/detail/ascend-g630-kh.htm?id=26062 2) I extracted Huawei Smartphone firmware (UPDATE.APP) on my PC and then I have pasted it on micro SD card. The process doesn’t start and the phone returns to the first message “Recovery image verify failed”. I think that bootloader is locked. I enclosed a picture.enter image description here Please help me. Thanks.

I was trying to install NightOwl cm12.1 Android 5.1.1 Beta 5 build for my Galaxy Note 1 N7000 . I followed all the installation instruction on that ROM's thread. I flashed philz CWM 5.15.0 . And now I'm stuck at step 4 after flashing the new kernel (6.48.4) to get updated CWM recovery. Now, my phone is unbootable stuck in the n7000 screen. If I wait just a little longer, the phone would just turned off. The installation guide says that I could still enter recovery mode by pressing "home" and "volume+" and "power" buttons. But unfortunately, my hardware home button is broken. I read somewhere that we could still enter recovery/download mode via ADB. I've tried it with no luck. It can't find the device (since it won't turned on). Is there any other way for me to at least enter download mode to reflash it back to the original stock rom via odin?
