I am using OTG external drive constantly. But it will always disconnect when the screen turns off. This causes data loss issues. I tried to find any related settings in system settings and developer options, but no luck. I tried to disable battery optimization etc.. None of them works.
Btw, I am running Andriod 10 (non rooted) (Sony model).
Do anyone know how to fix the issue or workaround it?
Thanks a lot.

Title says most of it. I have a Pixel 7 Pro and a Pixel Tablet. I just got a Crucial X10 4TB portable SSD, which advertises as compatible with Android. I have Solid Explorer installed, and when I plug the SSD into the tablet or phone, Solid Explorer sends me a toast saying it's preparing the USB drive. Except it never appears or enumerates. Solid Explorer can't see it, nor can Android Files. Neither recognize the existence of the drive. I can mount it on any of my Windows machines, as well as Chrome OS. (Interestingly, Chrome OS shows two devices on this drive, one called "USB Drive" which has no FS, and the other called "X10 Pro" that has all the files there. Not sure what's up with that, never seen it before).
I have installed the Paragon exFAT app and Total Commander, and that combination uniquely lets me interact with the drive, and only via Total Commander.
I read that Android 13 added exFAT support, and I've used exFAT USB flash drives on my Android devices before, so I am not sure what is going on with this.
I have a 2TB BeeDrive that I can connect to natively on Android and Windows without any utilities, and it is also formatted exFAT. What's going on here? Is the 4TB X10 too big or something?
Any help is appreciated.
**EDIT:**I realized that the X10 and the BeeDrive were different disk formats, BeeDrive is MBR and X10 is GPT formatted. Time to play with disk manager and see if that's the problem

How do I mount an external disk drive formatted in ext4 via USB Host?
I plugged a 2.5 inch 1Tb drive into a Nexus 10 and I cannot see it anywhere really. Something pops up in ES File Explorer, but I cannot access the drive. Do I have to root my device, or is there some other way? Would formatting it to a different filesystem help in any way (to access it for r/w)?

So far, I have two android phones which become kinda brick due to storage failure.
One phone suddenly missed many apps and files one day. And another one does not accept correct lock password one day.
When I try to look into mobie phone storage related topics, I am surprised that so litte info I can find.
I can not even find an app to tell what my phone's storage type and model are. I tried the famous AIDA64, it doesn't really give me anything about my flash drive. I can not even know if it's a NOR, NAND or eMMC.
I have some/many mobiles and some are rooted and some are non-rooted. I am wondering if I can find a general solution to detect flash drive failure in advance so that I can backup properly before it failed to boot and lose data. (I use smartd/smartctl on desktop OS for this purpose)
From my bad experiences, I really don't have any trust on mobile phone storage anymore. I have some other mobiles/pads/tablets broken too without knowinig what the real problem is. I guess they might be due to flash drive failutre as well.
Thank you very much for your help.

I download DiskUsage app and I found that "Vision Provider" is using 47G (Picture attached), I never used Bixby so I'm not sure why it's taking all this space.
How can I delete the Vision provider to free disk space?

Is there a more reliable method using my S8? I also have the WD Wireless Pro, but it is giving me so many errors that I gave up on that device.
I would like to reiterate that this is for travelling purposes, where I have to transfer nearly 200GB daily, and I hope not to lug my laptop around with me, hence asking whether my S8 can act as the intermediary.

I just got a "Cannot read page from file system trouble ahead" error message from the LectureNotes application and I'm not sure what it means, especially since a Google for the error produced no results.
Anyways, is there a chkdisk, Hard Disk Sentinel, or something for the tablet's SSD drive that I can use?

I keep all my documents, pics, music, etc. on a home NAS so I can access the data from around my home. For work I mostly use DropBox. But as my free 50GB are going to expire soon, I need to find another solution. So I thought I could move all my stuff from DB to my NAS and access it from there. I could use VPN but they aren't allowing outgoing connections and won't enable it for only that reason, which I can fully understand.
BTW I have a FritzBox 7390 as router and I plan of purchasing a low-power Shuttle PC for simple server-stuff. My Nexus 5 is rooted and runs the latest OmniRom build.
Are there any options here? If possible, it would be nice if my NAS could be mounted so I can move files around easily with an app.

First, I'd like to make myself look less a madman than I may have appeared to be.
I wanted to have a bootable USB stick with me at all times, but it's less convenient because it's an extra object and it's easier to lose, forget etc. Then I thought, I have an Android phone, and it has a micro SD in it; perfect.
Not all PC's can boot off a card reader, but the phone itself **is** a card reader when attached as a disk drive.
Or at least so I thought. Turns out that my netbook BIOS (tested on Asus eeePC) refuses to see it as an external harddrive; it only recognizes it as a generic USB device and doesn't offer an option to boot from it.
The device has a name "Android phone" or smth, so it seems to me that it doesn't work as a "pure" card reader, and instead still manifests itself as a phone.
Can it be somehow overridden?

I try to make external 2.5 hard drives automatically spin down when idle and connected to android devices. The device I have got in mind is a HDMI TV-Stick with USB connector. I tried a few cases/harddrives and found only one old 3.5 case which will spin down the drive when a
.nomedia
file is present on the drive to prevent indexing. Are there general differences between external drives which can influence their ability to spin down idle drives? Also I would be grateful for hints to android software which can trigger the spin-down and for explanation which requirements to make this work exist in general (for software, disk and case).

I have a x86 system (Asus Eee Pc)having hard disk of 232 GB, in which 4 GB allocated for Android and rest I don't know where it is gone. If I open super user and running this command in android terminal:
cat /proc/partitions
I get following result:
Block_Size(232Gb) sda
Block_Size(4Gb) sda1
Block_Size(rest) sda2
This shows there are two partitions (sda1
, sda2
) of total 1 drive (sda
).
Android is installed in sda1
and seen in it's file system. But sda2
data is invisible.
When i **run mount command** , we get :
- rootfs /rootfs rw 0 0
- proc /proc proc rw ,relatime 0 0
- /dev/sda1 /mnt ext3 rw,relatime,error=continue,barrier=0,data=writeback 0 0
- few lines ....
But nothing about sda2 .
I also try #busybox fdisk -l /dev/block/sda
Device Boot start End Blocks Id System
- /dev/block/sda1 1 528 4241128+ 83 Linux
- /dev/block/sda2 529 30396 23914716 83 Linux
- /dev/block/sda3 30397 30402 42714 ef EFI(FAT-12/16/32)
And when i run
-#busybox fdisk -l /dev/block/sda2
result is :
- doesn't contain a valid partition table .
How can I mount this drive in android? I just want to access and view the sda2
storage drive.
