Should I do the factory reset? If yes, what will I lose?

My HTC Desire S is working fine when I don't put my micro SD card in it (this card was free with the phone). But the phone keeps restarting every few minutes if I keep the memory card in it. By that, I could say that the phone is fine, but the issue can be either with the memory card or the phone not supporting memory card anymore. The phone and memory card worked completely fine for 8 months. The thing is, if the same memory card is inserted in any other mobile, be it an Android or any other smartphone, that phone will not restart and the data is completely readable too. So, the memory card is fine. When I insert some other memory card on my phone, then my phone does not restart too. So that means the issue is with *my phone & that particular memory card* combo. I am ready to uninstall each and every app from my phone, but will that solve my problem? Should I perform the factory reset? Will it solve my issue? What will I lose if will do the factory reset? Like: contacts, SMS, call logs, APN settings, etc. Any free software to backup all these? But maybe I am going in the wrong direction. Maybe there is some easy way to get the phone and memory card working.

Whenever I reinsert it, I get the message, after a few seconds, "SD card safe to remove". I've tried reformatting it and have run fsck on it. I think the card used to mount read-only before, as it used to unmount whenever I took a picture; this started happening after the most recent update. I kept trying to take pictures and reinserting the card would fix it but it seems now it won't mount. How can I fix the MicroSD card so it'll mount?

I am Running AOKP on my HTC Desire S and it has a weird issue with sound - If I reboot the device with headphones plugged in, the sound (specifically the bass) is OK but if I remove the headphones and if any kind of sound is played through the Phone's speaker (a touch, a keystroke, a song, a notification anything) and then try to plug in the headphones again, the bass cracks. Of course, I have reported the issue to original developer who has ported the build, but for now if I could just restart the sound engine, I may be able to solve it temporarily. Is there any such service that runs or is there any way to do so? AOKP 4.1 milestone 1 **EDIT**: This is not an answer to my original question (so not putting as an answer) but this kind of solved my problem. Well when you lose bass, just plug the headphones in, call a number (I always call my customer care which is toll free and not human :P) wait for the ring, cut the call and Whoila! The bass is back! :D I know it sounds crazy, but it works!

What's the best way to avoid this, given that I want to keep my phone in my pocket? I'd kind of like the screen to remain disabled when a call is being received until I press the power button at which point it becomes sensitive. Is there a way to do this or something which would avoid this accidental accept/reject of calls?

How do I Restore a ClockworkMod backup with a busted power button or through ADB?
I was trying to flash a new ROM, but can't get it to boot. Usually, I would have just booted into my recovery and restored my last backup. But I can't do that now as my power button is broken and it is impossible to select the "backup and recover" option after booting into the recovery.

OK, I know there's stuff out there on this - but tbh I can't understand it. I have a UK HTC Desire S on T-mobile. I used the official HTC download to upgrade to ICS last year (it was not OTA but on their website). However, when I came to unlock the phone recently (to allow my daughter to use it on another network) I cannot get it to prompt me for the unlock code. I've performed a "factory reset" but that didn't help, and the best advice I can find online seems to indicate I should restore the original OS. But I've not the faintest idea how to do this. I'm not sure what other info to give - it is currently running 4.0.4 and Sense 3.6. IF there's a dummies guide to this somewhere, I'm happy to be pointed - but I can't find it.

When I used my previous phone, when I am calling someone, I used to get a notification if the party that I am calling is in another call and I am waiting. I usually don't like to disturb people when they are in another call so I promptly hang up. But I've noticed that my **HTC Desire S** does not tell me that information. Is it by design ? Is there anyway I can enable this feature? An app perhaps? Or are all the phones running Android have this feature turned off ? Just to clarify, I am **NOT** looking for activating call waiting on my phone so I get an alert when another person is calling me. I want to know when a call *I* initiated is in call-waiting on the other end.

Why won't Jawbone headset invoke Voice Search/Dialing?

I have an **Aliph Jawbone** (original) which worked fine with Sony Ericsson dumb-phones (K750, K810) but on my **HTC Desire S** (Gingerbread, 2.3.3) I can't figure out how to use it for voice dialing. The phone can find the headset, pair with it and connect to it. If I double tap on the Jawbone's call button, it triggers the phone's last number redial and calls a contact; but a single press (which should invoke voice dialing on the phone somehow), has no effect. With dumb-phones, I would just press the headset button, hear a low-pitched beep, then a higher pitched beep a second later when the phone responds, prompting me to speak. Then the phone would receive the noise I make, and go and do its thing. With this Android phone, I don't hear that 2nd beep, so apparently the phone isn't responding to the Jawbone. Am I going about this in the wrong way? Should I be using the Car Panel's Voice Dialer instead? *** Update *** I've tried the **Voice Dialer**, and it *almost* does what I need, but to use it I need the phone out and visible, with the screen on, and I have to tap on the screen to trigger the dialer. I didn't have to do this with phones from five years ago. **Note** I am looking for a *hands-free* solution, so any advice that involves unlocking the phone, staring at it, and stabbing at the screen simply isn't an answer. It would also be illegal under English driving law. I *am* considering buying Cyberon's Voice Speed Dial , because that seems to work the way I'd like it to (without needing a data connection to an online speech-to-text service); but I want to check that I'm not missing some daft configuration setting.

How can I teach my phone not to capitalise "It's" every time?

I'm using the standard full QWERTY on-screen keyboard on my HTC Desire S, and when typing in to any app it seems that I cannot type it's without manually inserting the ', which is relatively slow and cumbersome, especially considering many other abbreviations work fine (eg, c, a, n, t -> can't). If I type i, t, s then the default word that is presented is its, but in the word selection list I am presented with It's as a second choice; *always* capitalised. it's is not presented as a choice anywhere in the list of suggestions. The phone seems to only capitalise anything else following a full stop or new line, and gets many other abbreviations correct, so why the misbehaviour for it's? And how do I fix it? I've already tried adding it's to the dictionary (and checked that It's isn't there), but that didn't work.
