How to display recent searches in the Google Search app?

When other people use the Google Search box on their Android device, about 3 items from the recent search history will show under the textbox. However, when I open the search box with my Google ID, nothing shows up.
I googled for this, and it seems all I can find are ways to *disable* recent searches. None of them solved my problem to *enable* recent searches. A couple that were somewhat relevant were all for older versions of the Google app. I am using the newest version, and everything concerning search history and privacy were turned on in my device.
So, how to display recent searches in the Google Search app?

For security reasons, I need to check exactly when I accessed some websites on my phone a few days ago. The activity is stored in my mobile Chrome's browser history, but apparently the timestamps cannot be viewed - just the dates.
I know the timestamp information is stored because when I sync with my desktop Chrome, the timestamps appear there. However, for everything but the current day, it only seems to sync explicitly typed addresses and not Google searches (unlike the mobile Chrome app's history which has both, but no timestamps). This is frustrating to no end.
I was hoping to be able to do this without rooting my phone, though installing third-party apps would be fine.

I simply can not find anything to turn off this behaviour, but surely there's got to be a setting for it??

I have discovered the name of that song or artist I wanted to know many times, but now I realize I can't seem to find my music "search history."
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is this in the (Play) Music App or Settings? I've looked everywhere! Reading thru the Google Help led me no where...

UPDATE: I answered my own question and cleared up the issue, giving credit where due. BTW the picture above was from illustration purposes only, and apparently from a device that has the Sound Search widget history disabled. Sound Search History is not available is some countries.

There is a question how to clear this but it only works until android 6 marshmallow.
Is there a way to clear the search history, or, better, to remove a specific search in android 7 nougat?
I can't find search_index.db in the data folder of settings app. Where is this located now? I know it can be fixed by clearing data of settings app but I want to find the location of the search_index.db

P.S. I am not willing to root my device just for this purpose. Therefore, I'm looking for a solution which does not require root access.

I tried removing both cache and data for the app, but that didn't help. The 2 entries are restored soon after I log in again.
I'd like to remove all entries, or make new entries show up again - I'm happy with either solution.

I've been using the Google Maps app to cache the maps on certain places where I might be going in the future. I don't always have internet access which is why I'm doing this. Now that I've cached most of the places I might possibly go to, I want to clear my search history to remove the clutter. I don't want to clear the whole shebang. Otherwise, my "pre-caching" actions would just be wasted efforts. I just want the search history on Google Maps to be cleared. How do I do this?

When typing a URL into my Cyanogenmod phone's browser, as I type, it suggests URL(s) from prior browsing that match what I have typed, similarly, when on a Google web search page, if I begin to type in a search string, the phone offers prior searches that match what I have typed in thus far in a drop down list from which you can select.
This is a great feature, but sometimes, I want to take the prior history and modify it slightly or append to it. This is especially common with a search where I want to add more words to my prior search.
Is there anyway to somehow select one of the suggestions without immediately invoking it and thus allowing me to edit it slightly before submission?

On my Android device, the Samsung Galaxy S, I frequently use Google and its search functions. Now have I noticed that I cannot seem to delete the Image Search history. When I search something using the regular search I can easily delete that search afterwards. But an earlier search in the Google Image Search does not seem to be possible..
Am I wrong? I have already tried things like deleting the search history through Google, which did not help, and deleting the history on my browser app, which also did not help.
If anyone has some helpful information it will be appreciated!
Kind Regards, Floris
**EDIT:** This has **not** been solved yet. The issue still remains. I can delete the history of the regular Google website, the Browser on my Phone and the history of the Google Widget. Yet *after* doing a search through the Google Widget you come to a Google page with the results, if you search again on *that* page then the autocomplete comes on with all my old history. Still searching a solution.
**EDIT 2:** This question is not relevant to me anymore. Due to some other issues I had to go back to factory settings which deleted most of my data. I cannot accept any answer as I am not able to check whether that answers works..
